Follow all the action from SW19 as the grand slam gets underway.

It wouldn’t be the early rounds of Wimbledon if there wasn’t a rain delay. The match is delicately poised but the rain has to clear up first. There are a few more umbrella’s coming up as the rain gets slightly heavier. The word coming out of Wimbledon is that there won’t be any play until 12:30pm at the earliest. Closing out the action will be Murray, who faces James Duckworth. Murray made it to the third round last year but was emphatically defeated by Denis Shapovalov and admitted afterwards that he was questioning his future. The US Open champion has shaken off injury concerns but faces a tricky opening match against world No 46 Alison van Uytvanck, who reached the fourth round herself in 2018.

So thank the lord for the closed roof on Centre Court and Court No 1, and discussions of the temperature and ball-flight therein. And by the looks of it, rain, even if “mostly cloudy” is the forecast on the official website. It would have been reasonable to assume that such a scenario would suggest a significant change at the top of the sport but Djokovic and Nadal are the main protagonists atWimbledonfor another year. He held his serve for the first game against Andujar, and gets chance for an early break, and one he gobbles up. It’s heavy, and the covers are on across the campus. That’s saved by an overhead by Andujar, but who double faults to hand over another, makes a bizarre, failed Hawkeye challenge on his second serve, then clunks a forehand into the ether to hand over the first set.

BBC is broadcasting coverage of the tournament, including Emma Radacanu and Andy Murray's opening ties, although Roger Federer will be missing.

Former Wimbledon Champion Andy Murray is due on Centre Court for his Wimbledon 2022 opener on Monday June 27. One of SW19's most beloved champions, Swiss Roger Federer had to pull out of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships through injury. The Serbian is due to take on South Korean Sunwoo Kwon from 1.30pm. British hope and former US Open champion, Emma Raducanu, is one the big names in this year's tournament. The tournament is one of four 'Grand Slam' events held across the tennis calendar. There is more British interest on the opening day too, with ninth seed Cameron Norrie due to open Court 2 at 11am.

The wildcard faces a seasoned pro in Tsurenko but it should hopefully be an excellent start to the day for fans of British tennis. 'Basically I just feel the time is right. Cameron Norrie is cruising, and is one game away from taking the first. Well, you can't say the players have not been treated to everything great about Britain… She had just been broken for a second time and trails 5-2. One of the biggest events in the British sporting calendar has rolled round again, and there is a blockbuster start to the first day of the championships at Wimbledon, MailOnline's Kishan Vaghela writes. But this is Murray's happy hunting ground and he will realistically be eyeing a run to the second week, which would be some achievement for a player with a metal hip. Murray skipped all-but one tournament in the clay-court season in order to prepare for Wimbledon and it looked like a wise decision as he made the final of an ATP Tour event in Stuttgart. And with the crowd behind her she will hope it will be one to remember. The match catching my eye is the one involving Benoit Paire, the fiery Frenchman who was warned last year for a lack of effort and told to stop 'wasting everybody's time' by a fan in a straight-sets defeat in the first round. Andujar exchanges a few words with the umpires and is keen to get back out there, but the groundsmen are on to cover the pitch and the players head off the court. The boy was led to a chair in the corner of the court, looking rather faint.

Norrie is through but Jodie Burrage is out, while Raducanu and Murray are among the other Brits in action later on Monday.

Raducanu though did manage to save two break points at 5-4 and serve out the first set to the delight of a crowd that grew fuller as the match went on, and more involved too. More than 15 minutes had passed by the time both women had a game on the board, Van Uytvanck saving two break points in her first service game and Raducanu saving three. Umpire Kader Nouri had to remind them of their responsibilities to remain quiet during the point in the second set, but the excitement approached fever pitch when, after exactly 100 minutes, Raducanu brought up three match points. She could not consolidate though, and was broken herself, before retaliating for the third break in a row. She looked almost incredulously towards her box after sealing the second of them. Looking to complete the job, Norrie broke once more in the third game of the third set, and though he had two match points on Andujar’s serve at 5-3, he failed to convert those opportunities moments before the heavens opened for a second time.

US Open champion Raducanu defeated the Belgian 6-4, 6-4 to reach the second round at SW19 in her first Centre Court appearance.

Coupled with the huge attention on the US Open champion’s homecoming and a tricky opponent, this was a major test, but Raducanu passed it impressively by claiming a 6-4, 6-4 victory. A couple of fizzing backhands, coupled with a poor volley and double fault from Van Uytvanck, gave Raducanu the first break in the seventh game. But there were no early causes for alarm as Raducanu threw herself into serves and groundstrokes, missing two break points in the opening game but then saving three on her own serve as the first two games lasted a gruelling 17 minutes.

Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray energise restored Wimbledon ... (The Guardian)

With the tournament at capacity for the first time in three years, the pair electrified an otherwise genteel atmosphere.

He looks good too, loose and limber and comfortable in his movements, with some of that old bounce, the choppy little steps, the slice, the shambling dashes to the net. Victory made it a perfect, if slightly tentative, start for the return of Wimbledon’s full house. The standard dipped for a while. There was a different kind of energy in seeing Raducanu win here, a straight‑sets victory against the experienced Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck that might have been a lot more awkward. For anyone with a sense of scale the story to this point isn’t disappointment, or distracting perfume deals (she really could have had a lot more of those). It is instead one golden run where the cards all fell right, a feat that may well remain a one-off for her and for anyone else. There has been an eagerness to cling to these pegs of the pre‑pandemic summer: Glastonbury, Wimbledon, queueing endlessly for a low-cost airline seat. Wimbledon is a place to luxuriate, to suck the sweetness out of the summer, to feel lush and flush and woozy and sated. There were gasps and coos as she unfurled a lovely coiled backhand, then sighs and murmurs as she netted a forehand. Murray drew the loudest roars later in the evening. The hill was beautifully lush and green in between the rain. In the shop under No 1 Court they are selling novelty oversized tennis rackets for £600. Are we really in that place? We have the plastic strawberry punnet, the cargo short, a stagey politeness.

The favourite in the women’s singles is World No 1 Iga Swiatek and she opens up her championships on Centre Court against Jana Fett, taking the traditional slot on the first Tuesday of play after defending women’s champion Ash Barty’s sudden retirement. It’s quite tough for her because for elderly people it’s most important to have a routine and, right now, there is lots of bombing and shooting going on in Odessa, in my hometown. “Of course, I’m still very, very sad about the situation that is happening right now and knowing how many people have lost their lives because of the invasion,” Svitolina told CNN Sport. “It makes me very sad. Yulia Putintseva (seeded 27) is under way against Alize Cornet on Court 10 and it’s 2-2 in the first set. Raducanu, the 19-year-old US Open champion, performed admirably on her Centre Court debut to see off Alison Van Uytvanck. Murray dropped a set against James Duckworth before finding his rhythm and progressing to a second-round date with John Isner. The Italian reached his first grand slam final at the All England Club last summer, losing in four sets to Novak Djokovic, and has been the form player on grass this summer. They will be back to play the third and final set. There has been an eagerness to cling to these pegs of the pre‑pandemic summer: Glastonbury, Wimbledon, queueing endlessly for a low-cost airline seat. Sometimes, the full length net is used for singles matches (such as the Katie Swan-Marta Kostyuk singles match) but there have to be ‘sticks’ in the tramlines to make sure the net height is the same. The big names are yet to head out to the show courts but there are many singles matches under way at SW19 and I’ll keep you updated if any stories develop in them. Sakkari has been in good form this year and will be looking to make it to the second week, something she hasn’t done before. Tennis nets have different lengths depending on their use – shorter lengths for singles (with the posts in the tramlines) and full length for doubles. Maybe a reader who plays tennis at a decent standard might be able to write in and tell us if it has any bearing on performance. But then why not have all nets full length width and then you just have to change the sticks. Britain’s Paul Jubb has wasted no time in making the most of his moment in the spotlight against Kyrgios on Court 3.

Wimbledon 2022 LIVE: Serena Williams, Rafa Nadal in action ... (The Sun)

STRAWBERRIES and cream at the ready, Wimbledon 2022 is FINALLY HERE!Last year's champion Novak Djokovic cruised to a first round victory despite losin.

I have pretty much beaten everyone in the draw before.” "As we saw today, I had to come off twice. “I know where my game’s at. Dan Evan's takes on Aussie Jason Kubler in his first match of the tournament, and it will be the closing game of the day. That is a blow for the popular Bulgarian and the crowd. The Italian practised with Nadal on Centre Court on Friday and even posed for a selfie. Swan has just been broken to go 5-4 down in the second so Kostyuk will serve for the second and take it to a decider. Wimbledon have wished Berrettini a speedy recovery after he quit the competition due to a bout of Covid. Sad news on Court No2 where Grigor Dimitrov has had to call it a day in the second set. The Queen's quarter-finalist took the second 6-3 against Laaksonen and it's on serve early in the third. Kyrgios has just branded a line judge a "snitch" for walking up to the chair umpire and telling her something mid-game. And the 22-year-old Hull ace showed his composure with a comfortable hold to seal the opener.

The 2021 finalist Matteo Berrettini became the second men's player in 24 hours to withdraw from this year's Championships due to a positive Covid-19 test.

The dream is over for this year, but I will be back stronger.” After the recent outbreak the All England Club will review their current measures on Tuesday. “As a major event we have and continue to work in conjunction with the UK Public Health Security Agency and our Local Authority,” said a spokesperson for the All England Club earlier on Tuesday.
