The aggressively pleasant BBC One competition show has tied up its loose ends - and crowned a winner.

And while such steadiness might prompt accusations of conservatism, some concessions to progressive audiences were made in this season finale – mainly thanks to off-beat new host Sara Pascoe, who amid the bobbins and bunting somehow managed to find an opportunity to remark: “We need to fund the NHS better!” In an altogether floatier arrangement, Brogan’s jumpsuit for her sister Hailey was inspired by their grandmother – “the queen of animal print”. And while such steadiness might prompt accusations of conservatism, some concessions to progressive audiences were made in this season finale – mainly thanks to off-beat new host Sara Pascoe, who amid the bobbins and bunting somehow managed to find an opportunity to remark: “We need to fund the NHS better!”is cemented as a fixture in the British TV calendar.

Debra works for a multinational company and likes to dress up in some of her more colourful designer-inspired creations to brighten up the workplace. Debra admits to being a bit of a messy sewer with lots of random fabrics and assorted projects all over the place. Her granny’s Ghanaian heritage is important to her and she likes to incorporate bold and colourful African prints into her creations. First in a test of sewing skill, it’s the Pattern Challenge where they chose fabric from the haberdashery to all make the same pattern. Inspired by her 93-year-old granny, Annie is the first finalist hoping to be crowned the winner. Ten weeks on and The Great British Sewing Bee grand final is here.

This time round, Annie, Brogan, Debra and Man Yee came together to compete to impress judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young.

Founded in 1829, Sunny Bank Mills havebeen undergoing a regeneration programme in recent years by the sixth generation of the family owners, creating a centre for work, leisure and culture.

Sewing Bee names its winner as finalists take on party outfits (Allaboutyou)

The final of The Great British Sewing Bee saw the sewers get in the mood for celebrating with party clothes, including Esme Young's iconic party dress.

And then it was the finale – the Made to Measure challenge, for which the sewers had to create a glamorous jumpsuit for an exclusive party. The brief was that it had to reflect them, be imaginative – and also party-centric. Overall, they thought it was "100% red carpet drama", and we couldn't have agreed more. They even got a "terrific" out of Patrick. The six ties are neatened and given pointed mitred corners and the curved edges are hemmed. Finally the D rings are added and the ties secured.
