Alpine's set to loan Oscar Piastri to Williams, but also has to resolve Fernando Alonso's Formula 1 future as part of that.

And it’s just a matter of timing. He is expected to join Williams next season on loan from Alpine but it is unclear if it would only be a one-year arrangement. Alpine is keen to re-sign Alonso and an extension is expected to happen, but a complication for the team is it knows it could risk losing the highly rated Piastri long-term if it does not find a seat for him.

Fernando Alonso says he wants to keep racing in Formula 1 "for at least two more years".

My intention is to continue for at least two more years. "He gives very good information, he is very good at setting up the car, he is calm, has a good feeling for the car and works well with the engineers and the team," said team boss Jost Capito.
