Alexander Volkaovski proved to be one of the top pound-for-pound UFC fighters at UFC 276 with a comprehensive shutout over Max Holloway in their trilo.

Still Volkonovski finished the round strong with his excellent timing of the jab. One might say that turned the fight, but really it just confirmed the way it was going. Holloway struggled to match that pace and certainly the timing.

Volkanovski has certainly earned the right to test himself in a new division. The way he dismantled Holloway to make his career record against Blessed 3-0 is the kind of thing that will be used in Greatest of All-Time debates for years to come. While the commentary seems to revolve around the speed of Volk, I’m more impressed by the traps that Alexander is setting up with his jab.

Incredibly, Volkanovski was still upping his output late in the fight as he really started to pursue Holloway with that same slick jab from the left that was always followed by a devastating right behind it. The problem was the blood getting into the eye along with Volkanovski’s precision and power were a terrible combination for Holloway trying to make a comeback. It was a game of inches between the two best featherweights in the world at the start with Volkanovski loading up on a right hand and Holloway moving forward while looking to establish his volume striking attack.

MAX HOLLOWAY's cut is one of the worst ever seen in the UFC Octagon.

“The Great” is now setting his sights on the lightweight title which is currently vacant after former champion Charles Oliveira missed weight against Justin Gaethje in May. The defeat to Volkanovski snapped a two-fight win streak for fan-favourite Holloway, who had forced his way back into the title picture with back-to-back victories over Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez. “Blessed” bled like a pig as the gash got wider and wider throughout the fight with the claret clearly obscuring the Hawaiian’s vision.
