UK-Taiwan Energy Dialogue to discuss ports for the offshore wind industry, biomass energy, and pathways to reach net zero by 2050.
In the subsequent discussion the British Office Taipei proposed a joint research project further exploring policies and technologies to improve grid resilience. The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy shared UK experience and best practice in the sustainable use of biomass as part of the transition away from coal. I want to express my sincere gratitude to all participants from both sides for sharing your insight and experience during the meeting.
Report says more ponds and streams can tackle health inequalities and foster community, saving NHS money. The author David Lindo, known as the Urban Birder.
The author David Lindo, known as the Urban Birder, said: “I grew up in London and the River Brent was a lifeline for me as a child. Wetlands could offer national and local government a win-win situation helping them reach their levelling up, climate change, nature and health targets all at the same time.” Walks taken by people in UK woodlands were also recently estimated to save £185m a year in mental health costs. Deprived communities are also often at highest risk of poor mental health and the effects of the climate crisis, such as heat stress. A study of 16,000 people in 18 countries found that frequently visiting natural water features decreased mental distress, while another showed just 10 minutes spent in urban wetlands can be enough to improve a stressed person’s mood. London’s natural spaces alone are estimated to save the NHS £950m a year in physical and mental health costs.
The landmark Energy Security Bill, announced as part of the Queen's Speech, will be introduced into Parliament today by Business and Energy Secretary Kwasi ...
The Bill will rectify this to allow the NSTA to identify and prevent a potentially undesirable change of control before it happens. The Review of the Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA), announced in the British Energy Security Strategy, is ongoing and ministers will set out options for reform this Summer. The Energy Security Bill will help to ensure the UK’s long-term energy supply and a cheaper and cleaner system overall. The CCSA has worked with the UK government on a credible investment framework for CCUS deployment and we are pleased to see the Energy Security Bill laid in Parliament today to implement it. As committed to in the Energy White Paper, new legislation will enable the removal of obligation thresholds under the scheme without creating significant financial and administrative burden for small suppliers. 13. Take back control of powers given to the EU on the energy performance of buildings. The energy codes cover everything from how buyers and sellers must interact in commercial markets to the technical specifications required to connect to the grid. With record levels of electric vehicles, renewable energy capacity and heat pumps being introduced, alongside new technologies such as low carbon hydrogen, the role of our energy networks in integrating these technologies into the energy system has never been more important. To prevent fuel supply disruption, such as from industrial action, malicious protest and for reasons of national security, the Bill gives the Secretary of State powers to pre-emptively prevent potential disruption to the downstream oil sector. Measures included in the Bill, such as those encouraging the deployment of heat networks and driving down the cost of ultra-efficient electric heat pumps, will help scale up the installation of key clean technologies for the future – reducing the UK’s dependency on global fossil fuel markets and exposure to volatile gas prices. Today’s Bill is the latest reform to bolster energy security and follows the Nuclear Energy (Financing) Act which received Royal Assent earlier this year. This is the biggest reform of our energy system in a decade.
The importance of the pilot ladder, by Bill Evans, Inspector of Marine Accidents.
When a combination of accommodation and pilot ladder is being used, the lower platform of the accommodation ladder must be horizontal and secured to the ship’s side so that the pilot can safely transition between the two. On some larger container vessels, a trapdoor arrangement is used, in which case the pilot ladder must extend above the platform to ensure that the marine pilot can safely transfer. To rig a pilot ladder correctly, it must be secured to strong points on the ship’s deck by a rope stopper attached to the ladder’s side ropes.
Speech delivered by the International Trade Secretary at Invest Africa's Africa Debate, at the Guildhall in London on the UK's trade relationship with ...
We will make a real difference to millions of people’s lives, today and for generations to come. If we take full advantage of this opportunity, I have every confidence that we will together, not only increase prosperity and create new growth. I’ll really like to take this opportunity to commend him for the way he is stewarding this incredibly important initiative. Yet we forget at our peril about the people behind those statistics – the jobs created, the businesses built, the lives changed. Strong businesses generate prosperity for the whole country here to. This could boost intra African trade by over 50% and lift 100 million people out of poverty. like those in Africa. Major firms like Nigeria’s Paystack, South Africa’s Yoco, not to mention Chipper Cash, are connecting millions of consumers and entrepreneurs to the global financial system. However, Africa of course will truly come into its own economically when it trades more with itself. By contrast, Europe’s will have contracted. The second element of the UK-Africa trading partnership is the need to ensure the free trade of goods and services. First, it’s about investment.

UK statements during the WTO Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) Council on 6 July 2022.
The licensee will have the right to use the IP without incurring the expense and risk of undertaking research, or the cost of developing the product. An exclusive licence can also be granted, which enables the licensee to use the copyright work in the manner specified by the licence to the exclusion of all others, including the copyright owner. The terms of the licence are also between the licensee and the licensor, for example if the licence is exclusive, so the mark cannot be used by anyone else, including the registered owner, or limited to a particular geographical area. Market penetration would be increased by licensing another business to sell in territories that the owner cannot cover. In instances where a copyright owner is unknown or cannot be found, individuals or businesses may apply to the UK Intellectual Property Office for an “orphan works” licence. The main advantages of having a patent endorsed with a licence of right is that it lets other people know that the owner is willing to licence the patent. IP can be “licensed-out” or “licensed-in”. The rights owner can “license-out” to another company in return for a fee. A copyright owner may decide whether and how to license use of their work, and any licence agreed can relate to one or more of the rights granted by copyright, and can also be limited in time, geographical extent or any other way. In essence - a licence is an agreement between the IP right owner and another party. This means that the owner must grant a licence to anyone who wants one. We welcome all Members’ views and the opportunity to engage bilaterally on the matter. We also extend our gratitude to all Members for their cooperation and patience throughout the process.
