The build-up to Euro 2022 which kicks off with a match between hosts England and Austria at a sold out Old Trafford.

“We’re aware of the expectation but from within the camp it’s all about enjoying it.” And she added: “We know what it is, we know what to expect and we’re ready for it. There are a whole hosts of countries who are among the favourites. All the build-up, excitement and rivalries have led to this. She ruptured her ACL in training and is due to be out for several months. “Stepping out for England at our home Euros, opening the tournament at Old Trafford, is going to be amazing,” she said. The one with loads of players on the cliff of Dover was a particular highlight for me. “England are very robust, determined, have high offensive quality and are the top favourites for the European Championship title for me. It’s devastating for all of the fans coming over, not just in Spain, but all the nations.” I’m just so proud to be able to go there and represent England at a major tournament at my home stadium. “I think this is hopefully going to be the tournament. “It has always felt like there is unfinished business for me in the league.” So far there has been 169 transfers in the women’s summer window and there’s no sign of them slowing down!

"And because of the cost of living [crisis] – which a lot of people are experiencing at the minute – 17million fans are going to be watching it [the tournament] from home. To have a sell-out crowd at Wembley and watching some of the players that we see in the WSL week in, week out playing for their national team… "When I was younger, all of my role models were male footballers and all of the tournaments I watched were men's tournaments. "You used to say, 'who's your favourite player?' And it was always a men's player. "It's to inspire the next generation, as well. "But I just think Sweden [have a great chance]. They're second in the world rankings, they did really well in the Olympics [winning silver]. They don't seem to have a weakness. That's going to be a tough game for England, a test for them. I think when you're bringing players on and they're making it even better, that's got to be a huge boost and positive for England to go far." We've had to change things in the second half - tactically and in personnel - but we've managed to do that." "The fact she's still so young, she's still adding to her game. and that's huge for the game. England are among the favourites to be crowned champions of Europe as they're in superb form heading into the tournament.

Attendances at Women's Super League (WSL) games are on the up, all top flight clubs are now professional and media exposure of the game is at an all-time high thanks to partnerships with Sky, BT and the BBC. Having reached the semi-finals in three successive major tournaments, Sarina Wiegman and her England side are now hoping to make that next logical step and lift a major trophy. We’d always had a challenge trying to get all the national press to come and cover the England team. At the time, a lot of girls weren’t choosing the opportunity to play football. A tournament being held in England not only saw big crowds flocking to see the Lionesses in person but also attracted the mainstream media's attention with games being shown live on the BBC. It will be some barometer to show how far women's football has come in a relatively short space of time.

Now with many of Europe's top stars playing in the English Women's Super League there is the belief that tonight's match will not be an outlier for the tournament and average crowds will be over 15,000 at the end of the finals. Almost a third of those tickets were for tonight's Opening Match and the sold-out final at the 90,000 Wembley Stadium on 31 July. Tonight's attendance is not a record for a women's match in England which remains the crowd of 80,203 which witnessed the 2012 London Olympic final between the United States and Japan at Wembley Stadium. However, with Wembley long since sold out for the final of this competition, it seems only a few weeks before that record is broken too, particularly if the hosts continue winning and play in it on July 31.

England vs Austria LIVE Women's Euro 2022 updates (Football.London)

Follow all the action from Old Trafford as the Women's Euro 2022 kicks off with hosts England taking on Austria in Group A.

We know what it is and what to expect. I really think England are going to win the Euros this summer. We've put in the work over the last few weeks and ticked the boxes we needed to. Everybody has their own things in place to deal with it. Pressure is a privilege and we are embracing it. Good evening all, and welcome to our live blog as we bring you all the action from tonight's opening game of the Women's Euro 2022! England of course get their tournament underway this evening as they take on Austria in their opening group game, and we'll be here to take you through it all! Not only is tonight's game available to watch, but so are all of the Lionesses' matches in the tournament! I think the manager, Sarina Wiegman, will be a massive factor with her previous experience of winning it with Netherlands and I think she’ll bring that to England. With the likes of Spain, Germany and Denmark in Group B, England will have to get past another of the favourites in the last eight, but Williams - speaking to William Hill - is backing the experience of Sarina Wiegman will make the difference. The atmosphere is brilliant as we build up to the opening group game, with England aiming to make the perfect start against Austria. The Lionesses head into the competition as one of the favourites to go all the way and claim their first European Championship title.

Having delighted fans at Euro 2020 last summer, supporters were delighted to see the return of the 'tiny car' as England took on Austria.

The Women’s Euro 2022 is set to run throughout July, with games taking place up and down the country as England take host duties. Back then, fans were beside themselves with laughter after seeing a tiny car carrying out the same job ahead of the opening game between Italy and Turkey. And supporters watching on for the opening game of the Women’s Euros this year were delighted to see the return of an old favourite, albeit in a slightly different guise.

The game is growing, and as it grows it continues to be more malleable than the men’s game. Within women’s football it feels like we have more control, and more potential to make that a consistent reality. But I also hope one day my safety won’t have to feel like a special ‘privilege’, and instead will be the default experience for football fans like me. There were 68,871 fans in attendance, a record-breaking number for the Women’s Euros, and it was clear the England team wanted to make history. Women’s football has grown exponentially over the past few years and is lauded for being an inclusive, welcoming environment – my enjoyment of the game last night is testament to that. We had seen the Nike campaign a few days before which projected epic displays of the Lionesses onto landmarks across London, and last night was a testament to results you get when you invest into women’s football: you make history.
