Jane Campion has spoken about her 'snub' at the Oscars, when her 'The Power of the Dog' was nominated for 12 awards but won just one.
Campion told the BBC: “The film couldn’t have been made without them because we took it to the market and there were several different people interested. It was an easier film to understand and, you know, that’s the way it went and I’m happy for them.” The epic western which was streamed on Netflix was Campion’s first feature film for more than a decade.
Celebrity Gogglebox stars including Anne-Marie and Nick Grimshaw were left in tears watching the emotional singing scene in the Coda movie.
‘I can’t bear it,’ she said with a crack in her voice, as Ruby’s dad put his hands around her neck while she sang to feel the vibrations. The episode ended with comedian John joking with his wife Lucy Beaumont, noting that the tear-jerking scene was quite the contrast to the start of the film, where the family communicated swear words to each other via Sign Language. Anne-Marie was probably the most tearful of them all, needing to wipe her eyes with her t-shirt. It’s a super sweet story and the ending is just the cherry on top of the cake, after Ruby’s parents attend her performance and get to witness the magical reactions of fellow audience members when she wows them with her voice. Ruby’s dad then asks her to sing for him when they are alone together, and that was enough to tip the Gogglebox cast over the edge. Coda tells the story of Ruby Rossi (Emilia Jones), who is the only hearing person in a Deaf family, as she struggles to balance her dreams of singing and going to music school with her family.
