Forward coach Richard Cockerill has reacted to complaints from the Wallabies about England's abrasive approach by insisting: 'It's been pretty tame so far'

We are going to come with even more purpose in how we play because every time we play we get better. So they’re going to come with more physicality – well, no surprise, so are we.” “We are going to come with more physicality.

The clash on Saturday will see the newly-created Ella-Mobbs Cup lifted for the first time at Sydney Cricket Ground.

And his belief in England’s direction is evident: “I really like the way this team is developing.” His basics were rock solid, his delivery razor sharp and he exploit gaps when they appeared. Jonny Hill repeatedly goaded Darcy Swain until the lock’s fuse eventually blew and he was sent off for a head butt.

A week later Ellis Genge roughed up White on the floor and triumphantly shoved Michael Hooper in the chest after England had scored a try. I don't think it has been a particularly dirty series so far at all. You want spikiness to games. "You want rivalry don't you? "I keep hearing about the niggle that England have brought. It’s All On The Line: All four series deciders. I don't know how Aussie rugby is but I don't see that as niggle. "We've got to be even better. "We have got two teams who are playing for the Test series so we are both going to be going at it." "He [Ludlam] has energy. "So we just have to get on our with our game with a good set piece, tackle hard, clean rucks, be as physical and abrasive as we can, within the laws of the game. And it's all about the mindset of the players," Jones said.

Australia v England: Five talking points ahead of third Test including ... (planetrugby.com)

Ahead of the series decider between Australia and England at the Sydney Cricket Ground, we pick out our five talking points for the pivotal fixture.

If Australia are to win this series, their start must be better and there’s no doubt that’s been a work-on for Dave Rennie during the week. Australia have named their third different full-back this series for the decider, but England should arguably be most concerned about this latest inclusion. Last weekend’s player of the match Jack van Poortvliet was a surprising omission from the England starting XV announced on Thursday as Eddie Jones opted for Danny Care at scrum-half.

Australia 17-21 England: Marcus Smith inspires third Test victory as ... (Sky Sports)

A spectacular second-half try from Marcus Smith helped England claim a 21-17 victory in the deciding Test against Australia and win the series 2-1.

It was pounced on by England's fly-half and Smith fixed his sights firmly on the line. First, Hill's pressure at the lineout dislodged the ball before Lolesio attempted to scoop it up and rescue proceedings. Dave Rennie made four changes to Australia's starting XV. Harry Wilson started in the back row and Reece Hodge was given the nod at full-back. Owen Farrell's conversion boosted the tourists' advantage to 21-10 with a quarter left. When a penalty arrived, Farrell rewarded his team-mate's work for a 14-10 lead. Danny Care, Ollie Chessum and Lewis Ludlam were all selected to start.

England withstand late pressure to seal series victory over Australia ... (Surrey Comet)

Luke Cowan-Dickie and Courtney Lawes combined to secure a critical late turnover as the Wallabies cranked up the pressure.

Just as Jones’ men were starting hit their stride, however, they were picked apart by a mesmerising try that began when Porter failed to tackle Marika Koroibete in midfield, providing the space for Nic White and Tom Wright to combine until the latter went over. On this occasion the change was rewarded with another solid shift from Jack van Poortvliet. There were shades of 2016 when veteran scrum-half Danny Care was hooked in the 37th minute as the price for an error-ridden display that included a charged-down kick, knock-on and missed tackle.

There was a great effort by our leaders and our finishers were absolutely outstanding. It’s a timely boost for England’s Aussie coach, on the back of successive Six Nations campaigns which brought just two wins. England reveal Wallabies' pre-match trash-talk fuelled win in ... (The Guardian)

England's captain Courtney Lawes says trash-talking in the press from Australia's players helped spur his team to their series-clinching victory in Sydney.

“We had a more established team in 2016 coming on the back of the grand slam and coming on the back of a 2015 team. That triumph came on the back of a Six Nations grand slam, however, and Jones believes this series victory was harder to achieve. When you fight like that and win a game like that it is a big achievement from the team.” That motivated us a bit but the boys stuck together, stuck to our guns. As a result and despite the end-of-season fatigue, Lawes revealed England were provided with the perfect motivation to go back to the well once more. I’ve spoken through the whole tour about how, as a team, we want to have that feeling of playing for each other.
