Spain set up England quarter-final at Euro 2022 as Marta Cardona's ... (The Independent)

Denmark 0-1 Spain: The substitute scored a 90th-minute winner to send Spain through as Group B runners-up.

In the best of the chances, Harder lifted a shot over the goalkeeper that was also lifted over the bar. Spain would eventually steady and managed to test goalkeeper Lene Christensen, but still lacked the ruthless edge in the penalty box. This, evidently, was not the plan and a more clinical Denmark side could have secured their progress to the quarter-finals by half time. Sandro Panos was just tested once, however, and that was from a tight shot from the angle. Harder was outstanding in her solo mission of raiding the Spanish half and while she often lacked support to match her own quality, she set up Nadia Nadim for what could have been a late winner before Cardona’s header. A Denmark side often consisting of nine players behind the ball and Pernille Harder leading the attack on her own was still able to create several clear chances.

Denmark 0-1 Spain: Substitute Marta Cardona grabs late winner to ... (Daily Mail)

England will take on Spain in the Euro 2022 quarter-finals after Marta Cardona headed a last-gasp winner to earn the Spanish a 1-0 victory over Denmark.

I was actually at the game between Spain and Germany on Tuesday evening and it was a great contest. Germany and Spain both won emphatically in the opening round of games, beating Denmark 4-0 and Finland 4-1 respectively. We will mainly be focusing our attentions on Spain vs Denmark, as there is a huge amount riding on that fixture. Supporters from all across Europe have flocked to the tournament. England will have watched with interest as Spain booked their place in the quarter-finals, but it was disappointment for Denmark, who crash out in the group stages after reaching the final at Euro 2017. That's another good chance for Denmark on the break. Back to the action at Brentford and Spain go close again as we near half-time. A Spain win or a draw will put La Roja through but a Denmark victory will see them proceed. A let off for the Danes. The Spaniards then get bodies back and clear. They have had 17 shots to Finland's one but are incredibly not yet ahead. Spain have been caught on the counter attack a couple of times now and a Danish ball over the top has just played in Harder.

Denmark's best chance of the game came in the 78th minute when substitute Nadia Nadim found rare space in the area and was able to turn and shoot, but Panos made herself big and closed down the Denmark forward to make a crucial save. Christensen was called upon again in the 71st minute to make a low save to stop Carmona's low strike, while Harder fired over the bar at the other end in a rare Denmark break forward. Spain came close to taking a lead of their own in the 25th minute through Athenea del Castillo but the ball was saved on the line by Christensen. The second half started in much the same fashion as the first, with Denmark containing Spain successfully at the back while struggling to mount their own meaningful counter-attacks. The Chelsea player beat the defender but was left with a narrow angle for her shot and Sandra Panos was able to make the save. England will take on Spain in the Euro 2022 quarter-finals after Marta Cardona headed a last-gasp winner to earn the Spanish a 1-0 victory over Denmark.

Spain vs Denmark Women's Euro Sees 90th Minute Spanish Winner (The18)

Spain secured its spot in the Women's Euro quarterfinals and has a date with England after defeating Denmark 1-0 on Saturday.

Injuries to the team’s two stars Jenni Hermoso and Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas put the favorite idea in doubt. Spain had 70% possession during the team’s 2-0 defeat to Germany. The stats might show that Spain dominated in possession with 75%, but the victory was anything but straight-forward.

Spain's Marta Cardona sets up England tie after late strike sinks ... (The Guardian)

Marta Cardona's 90th-minute strike gave Spain victory against Denmark and set up a Euro 2022 quarter-final tie against England.

A draw would see Spain through, they knew, but if time was theoretically on their side and the ball was almost exclusively theirs now, the margins narrowed and the nerves grew. Nadim’s rising shot was pushed away by Paños. Although that was the last time Denmark mustered a shot, that didn’t release the tension during the ten minutes that remained. The impact was almost immediate and the moment might have been Nadim’s before it was Cardona’s. Harder made it, again making something of not much, rolling her marker and laying off brilliantly. The shift would prove decisive, but it would take a long time to reveal that. It had been edgy and far from easy but they had done it, setting up a meeting with England. Denmark, ultimately, had not quite done enough. Denmark had begun well, Katrine Veje’s run leading to Thomsen falling under challenge from Athenea del Castillo and appealing for a penalty, and Spain looked decidedly uncomfortable.
