Dundee United 0-2 Sunderland (ChronicleLive)

All the latest as Alex Neil's Black Cats continue their pre-season preparations with a game against Jack Ross' side.

Sunderland still doing all the pressing. Best chance of the game so far Dajaku plays the ball to Neil inside the box on the left, he turns his man inside and out, then chips the ball up for Stewart in the middle but he steers his header just wide of the left-hand post Should have done better Pritchard's precision cross from the left, Neil steps in front of his man and tries to guide his header into the far corner of the net but the keeper gets across to push it away. Mulgrew, just inside his own half, plays the ball back towards his own goal without looking and his keeper is way outside the box and can only chase it in vain as it rolls into the empty net in front of the Sunderland fans

Former Celtic winger Patrick Roberts was also a pest to Dundee United, who will discover their Europa Conference League third qualifying round opponents when the draw is made on Monday. The patrons at Tannadice are unlikely to see such a bizarre goal for some time. Some 40 yards out on the right-hand side, the defender turned and fired the ball back to the Finn without looking.

The goalkeeper wasn’t able to gather it and Stewart almost managed to play the ball over to Dajaku for a tap-in but couldn’t quite find his team-mate. The Sunderland keeper has had more to do in this second half and had to be strong to tip Meekison’s shot over the bar for a corner there. The hosts are starting to cause more problems and went close again after substitute Glass made a run down the left of the box and sent a low cross into the box.

Andy's Player Ratings: Sunderland 2-0 Dundee United - A solid win ... (Roker Report)

Sunderland continued their pre-season campaign with victory over Dundee United on Saturday. Here's how Andy rated the Lads!

Had a half chance to score, but headed just over. Came really close to scoring a couple of times, once when played in by Roberts, but could only shoot straight at the goalkeeper, before forcing a good save with a header from Pritchard’s cross. Let his man get by him too easily a couple of times but made an important clearance right at the end when the home side had half a chance.

Jack Ross delivers verdict on Dundee United's pre-season defeat ... (Sunderland Echo)

Dundee United boss Jack Ross felt his young side competed well against Sunderland despite their 2-0 defeat at Tannadice Park.

“It’s a progression for us but it’s clear as a squad we are very, very young at the moment and that depth in quality needs to come.” “I thought in the first half we defended really well and our defensive shape restricted them, but we didn’t look after the ball particularly well. “For us I felt we were much better than we were in midweek over in Spain against Port Vale, I was a bit critical after that.
