A lighter turn from an often brooding actor enlivens a standard action film.
Gosling is the hero, called Six, named so by the CIA operation that plucked him out of prison (he’s there for noble reasons, the film is careful to explain) and trained him in the art of covert killing. Like much of The Gray Man, this scene isn’t quite as huge and cool and grand as it thinks it is. But the way the scene is framed, you’d think filmgoing audiences have been waiting for years to see Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans go at it. (As he was in earlier years, in Drive and The Place Beyond the Pines and more.) Those performances were a far cry from the arch snap, the animated vigor, that had given life to some of his early, career-boosting roles. So it’s a pleasure to watch him in The Gray Man (from First to Gray—the story of life, really), a big dumb action movie (in theaters now, on Netflix July 22) which marks Gosling’s return to film after four years away. The Gray Man is otherwise notable for its sheer scale.
Ryan Gosling branded Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor Who casting 'the most exciting thing that's happening right now', saying he's 'here for it'.
We’ll get to see Ncuti in action as the Time Lord on BBC later this year, with the Barbie movie – also starring Margot Robbie in the titular role, and Sex Ed pal Emma Mackey – slated for release next year. rattling with tension,’ he said in the Production Notes column of the Doctor Who magazine. Ncuti himself, on the other hand, was absolutely living for the moment and shared a photo of ‘King’ Ryan in the shirt. In fact, screenwriter Russell said keeping Ncuti’s casting a secret was a ‘spectacular operation’, and the reveal took ‘a hell of a lot of planning’. This isn’t the first time Ryan has proven himself to be a big Ncuti fan, as the 41-year-old was pictured proudly donning a graphic tee with Ncuti’s face on while on set for Barbie. Chatting with Alex Scott and Roman Kemp on The One Show on Tuesday, the Canadian was quick to big Ncuti up and couldn’t speak highly enough of him.
In the new Netflix movie "The Gray Man," Ryan Gosling's character jokes that he goes by the name Six because 007 was taken.
As of Monday, "Gray Man" had a 52% positive rating among reviews collected on the Rotten Tomatoes website. "He's unapologetically himself," Evans said of the character. "It is hard to shoot action. "Gray Man" was filmed at seven locations around the world from Azerbaijan to Croatia and France. "The Gray Man" is based on a novel by Mark Greaney and directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the brothers who helmed Marvel's mega-blockbuster "Avengers: Endgame." Netflix Inc and the movie's directors hope the film, which starts streaming on Friday, will launch the company's own long-running spy series.
The two actors have gotten close recently as they are filming for the new Barbie film.
The film is already a big talking point on social media. Ncuti shared the image on his social media when it first went viral, captioning it "Dolls supporting Doctors", and "As if I couldn't love him anymore." Showrunner Russell T Davies will also be returning for the new series.
Fans couldn't get enough of the outfits Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans wore to the "Gray Man" premiere in Berlin.
“We gotta get this guy some normal clothes. Evansville [sic]: tending bar inside the club. “Gosling: running valet parking outside the club.
Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa has a "big fan" in Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling, who sung his praises while visiting with the BBC's The One Show.
Russell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true," Gatwa said when the news of his casting as the 14th Doctor was first announced. The entire team have been so welcoming and truly give their hearts to the show. This role and show mean so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care.
In The Gray Man, Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans are having fun, but they're trapped in a series of spy clichés.
But beyond these two endearing actors being able to gleefully chew the scenery, The Gray Man is mostly a collection of tired spy tropes, directed in a muddled and baffling way, that seemingly exists to set up what seems like will be a fairly unimaginative franchise. Henry Jackman’s score evokes the Mission: Impossible soundtrack, and for all its spy plodding and searching for answers, The Gray Man is really just as simple as one man trying to kill another. Similarly, Russo, Markus, and McFeely’s screenplay never gives the audience a reason to care about this mission or these characters. Considering that the majority of the film is a spy vs. Now, with The Gray Man, Anthony and Joe Russo are back in the world of action with one of the most expensive films ever made by Netflix, and with this thriller spy film, the brothers Russo still seem to think they’re directing a superhero film. But ever since the Russo brothers walked away from the MCU (for now) with 2019’s Avengers Endgame—one of the highest-grossing films of all time, and the wrap-up for the first decade of the MCU—the brothers have still been stuck in superhero mode.

He’s like an analog hero in a digital world. “He’s not under any romantic ideas of what it’s like to be a spy, you know? Ryan Gosling is continuing his “Ken-ergy” for his latest appearance for “The Gray Man.”
Ryan Gosling has revealed what longtime partner Eva Mendes really thinks about him playing Ken in the new Barbie movie.
Catch Ryan – alongside the likes of Ncuti Gatwa and Emma Mackey – in Barbie next year. They met on the set of their film The Place Beyond the Pines over a decade ago and have been strong and stable ever since, now sharing two daughters – Esmeralda, seven, and Amada, six. What did your wife Eva make of it, what did she think of the look?’, she asked. Well, Ryan has spilled the tea, and we reckon Eva will be one of the first in line to grab a ticket for the film. Photos from the set have got fans rather excited thanks to the costumes, with one look, in particular, going viral after Ryan was seen rollerblading, wearing a pair of florescent skates. In Barbie – slated for release in 2023 – Ryan stars opposite Margot Robbie, who takes on the role of the titular character.
"The Gray Man" and "Barbie" actor Ryan Gosling shut down rumors that he'll be joining the MCU anytime soon.

The Notebook (2004). When Nick Cassavetes adapted Nicholas Sparks' romantic novel, Gosling was the natural choice for the leading actor.
The first collaboration between Gosling and Damien Chazelle resulted in one of the most enjoyable musicals in recent years. In Adam McKay’s highly-praised drama, Gosling shared the stage with Steve Carell, Christian Bale, and Brad Pitt to tell the harrowing story of the 2007 housing market crash. Although Cassavetes believed Gosling wasn’t “handsome” enough, the Canadian actor had quite a chemistry with his co-star, Rachel McAdams. Together, Gosling and McAdams portrayed the heartbreaking story of a couple who fell in love during World War II. The movie did well at the box office and allowed Gosling to showcase his potential in what became his breakout role. Drive also starred Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks, Ron Perlman, Oscar Isaac, and Albert Brooks. The film premiered in competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where Refn won the award for Best Director. It also received a nomination for Best Sound Editing at the Academy Awards. Drive ended its theatrical run grossing over $80 million at the box office and overcoming its $15-million production budget. Directed by Ryan Fleck, Half Nelson followed the relationship between Dan and one of his young students, Drey. The cast included Shareeka Epps and Anthony Mackie. Gosling’s efforts were rewarded with a nomination for the Best Actor Oscar, becoming one of the youngest nominees ever. Since then, he’s moved to the big screen and acted in many unforgettable roles.
Ryan Gosling may just have been onto something at the premiere of The Gray Man in Berlin, in his skinny tie.
Skinny ties, as opposed to wider Seventies-esque numbers, have been doing the rounds in the recent men's collections. Elsewhere Hugo, the sub-brand of Boss that is aimed at TikTokers, consistently puts out thinner ties to be worn with its louche tailoring. But while we're not about to start dressing like a backing dancer in Britney Spears' Circus music video from 2008, there is a part of Gosling's look that we're down with.

Ryan Gosling is currently on the press tour for his movie The Gray Man, but he's channelling a different role entirely.
Last night Gosling served peak Ken-ergy when he showed up to the London premiere of The Gray Man at the BFI Southbank. He sported yet another custom Gucci fit, which was selected by his stylist Mark Avery and the Italian labels' creative director Alessandro Michele. He wore a lavender-hued suit jacket and pastel, Millennial pink (sickly soft and the sort of colour Barbie would slap on her lips) trousers, which sat nearly on a pair of smooth, buttery Derbies. On his wrist: a shiny Tag Heuer Carrera timepiece. Peak Barbie-core, it was the sort of Seventies-inspired fit you'd expect to see the chiselled Ken doll cruising around Los Angeles wearing (in a matching turquoise Chevy Bel Air, which die-hard Barbie fans would know was the ride-around of choice for the plastic icons). Gosling will portray the Mattel doll alongside Margot Robbie, who plays the platinum blonde titular character, and the likes of Dua Lipa and Kingsley Ben-Adir. And while production is still ongoing – the cast have been shot filming in Los Angeles over the course of the past few months – Gosling, who is sporting a newly-dyed, bleach blonde ‘do (for the Ken job, of course), has taken every opportunity to get into character away from set.

So Carmichael steps up the chase, bringing in a private contractor unwedded to the bureaucratic rules and regs which prevent government organisations from, y'know, torturing people outright: Chris Evans' wise-cracking sociopath Lloyd Hansen. Now, on top of the Bond and Bourne of it all, we get a little in the way of Face/Off, with the respective two best in the biz coming to blows in what soon emerges as a hyper-violent dick measuring contest. But stepping back, and appreciating it for what it is, a star-heavy beat ‘em up with guts and guns aplenty — well, it's a pretty good time, if not one that came at mighty expense for the platform. Eighteen years later, and Fitzroy is out, replaced by the shady Carmichael (Regé-Jean Page, who does his best with a cold 'n calculating trope).
To mark the release The Gray Man, we revisit the Ryan Gosling's best and broodiest roles, featuring sad Gos, bad Gos and mad Gos.
The Ides of March is Gosling eschewing being an outwardly furious bro and instead opting for a more quietly raging sociopath, all complete with a sharp suit. Whether he's playing an angry man, an angry man upset about his girlfriend, or an angry man upset about someone else's girlfriend, there is a sinew of tattooed turmoil which threads together The Gosling Cinematic Universe. Have a pair of eyes ever conveyed such depths of eternal sadness as the ones on Ryan Gosling's face?
