Any plans to develop additional installments were canceled based upon this underperformance and there are no active plans at this time for a new Terminator movie to be made. A trailer for that game has been released and you can check it out below. It could be made with sock puppets and it could be awesome. The high-budget movie fell short of expectations at the box office and the response from fans was mixed at best. Looking back at Terminator: Dark Fate in hindsight, director Tim Miller says it was "wrong" for him to try and relaunch the franchise. I went in with the rock hard nerd belief that if I made a good movie that I wanted to see, it would do well.

At the San Diego Comic-Con, Terminator: Dark Fate director, Tim Miller says no more future sequels for the franchise, as it should stay dead.

Miller mostly described his experiences working as a director on Deadpool (2016). However, a question on Terminator: Dark Fate was nearly impossible to avoid. At his Directors on Directing panel at SDCC, the talented director said one of his proudest moments was when the first footage of Deadpool was screened at SDCC and the crowd wanted to see it once more. The director, who was seen at the 2019 SDCC promoting Terminator: Dark Fate, was also asked about the franchise’s future — as the 2019 sequel was considered a box-office misfire.

Terminator: Dark Fate director Tim Miller reflects on his film at SDCC and comments on the possible future of the Terminator franchise.

In 2015, the franchise’s fifth installment Terminator Genisys was originally intended to serve as a fresh reboot of the property and the start of a new trilogy of films. Hopefully, when that day comes, whoever is tasked with the next Terminator film will find a way to make it succeed against all odds. While the franchise would come to receive both critical and commercial acclaim with the much beloved 1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day, since then, continued attempts to reinvigorate the property have all largely been met with various degrees of critical apathy, audience skepticism, and box office failure.

'Terminator: Dark Fate' Director Reflects On Revival's Poor Reception (The Playlist)

Director Tim Miller spoke at Comic-Con on Friday and said he "was wrong" thinking people would support his 'Terminator' incarnation.

“‘Terminator’ is an interesting movie to explore, but maybe we’ve explored it enough,” Miller said Friday in San Diego. “I went in with the rock-hard nerd belief that if I made a good movie that I wanted to see, it would do well. “I think if you make a lower cost ‘Terminator’ movie, a good director and movie star could make it great. However, those trilogy plans were paused when “Dark Fate” only managed to earn $261 million globally with a hefty production budget of $185 million, which combined with marketing costs would suggest the film wasn’t able to turn a profit.
