Let's meet LFA's Flyweight kingpin, Charles Johnson, who makes his short notice Octagon debut against Muhammad Mokaev at UFC London on Sat., July 23, 2022.
Looking forward to seeing whether he can recreate “King’s” Octagon success. As seen by his recent success, the pros definitely outweigh the cons, especially since he’s got a solid wrestling game to back it up. He had some bizarre stretches against Horiuchi wherein he simply stood there and tried to block combinations with his back against the fence, and Mota likewise did good work with body shots in those situations. His killer instinct is worth a mention as well. He’s a switch-hitting, hands-low slickster, firing off lead low and body kicks while looking for opportunities to land jabs, crosses and left hooks. On this edition of “New Blood,” the series where UFC’s aborted plan to dissolve the Flyweight division grows more moronic by the day, we check out an entertaining LFA champion last seen in an absolute slugfest.

We get to see him back in the Octagon just a few months since his last fight where he defeated Rodrigo Vargas at the O2 Arena in London, forcing his opponent to submit in the opening round of the contest at UFC Fight Night.
TOM ASPINALL and Curtis Blaydes took part in a tense final staredown ahead of their UFC London showdown. The giant heavyweights will top the bill at Lo.
Chris Curtis vs. Curtis Blaydes vs. This gonna be a good fight and everywhere, I'm ready for it.
Mookie Alexander: I feel like Aspinall either wins this early or gets worked over as the fight progresses. Blaydes is a terrific wrestler and if he can ...
Zane Simon: Volkan Oezdemir just does not have to have the kind of fight Paul Craig wins. Add in Curtis’ work to the body and greater power in his strikes and I think that even with the short notice, the Action Man will get it done. Mookie Alexander: Leavitt’s a pretty good grappler and that alone could make this a fun fight on the mat. Zane Simon: A base level, gut reaction to this fight just has me wanting to pick Hermansson. He’s had more of a camp for the fight, he’s tough as nails, he can push a pace I’ve never seen Curtis forced to maintain, and at some point Curtis’ 5’ 10” frame has to become a factor against lanky and/or grinding MWs (of which Hermansson is both). But the specifics of this fight aren’t nearly so convincing for the Swedish-born Norwegian. He’s always struggled with southpaws, he lacks the dominating strength to be a truly overpowering wrestler against the elite, and even when he’s done well in a high paced striking match, those haven’t been fights he’s then gone on to win. Blaydes has spent a lot of time over the years improving his boxing, to the point that he was pretty clearly out-working Derrick Lewis on the feet, and ultimately breezed by Chris Daukaus. But Aspinall is a bit of a different animal. Mookie Alexander: I just don’t think Gustafsson is at his physical peak and each of his last three losses have just been so disheartening for how non-competitive they were. There’s also the realization that Hermansson should be a better takedown threat than Rodolfo Vieira and he has a good workrate. And I’ll admit, I’m a little more drawn by that second question (even though it has a much lower chance of being a factor) than I am the first. On the feet, Blaydes is a markedly improved offensive striker who can pack a punch, but he will be at a speed disadvantage and Aspinall is much more varied and generally better than Chris Daukaus. It’ll be interesting to see how Aspinall deals with Blaydes’ wrestling threat and how that could impact his striking. Blaydes is a terrific wrestler and if he can establish that successfully then I don’t know if Aspinall has the ability to escape both bottom position and the heavy ground-and-pound that usually comes after a Blaydes takedown and solid top control. I’m not confident in this pick whatsoever, but I feel like my doubts of Aspinall were very much reduced after the Volkov win and he might just have that special quality in him to hurt and stop Blaydes early. For example, if Zane Simon entered all of his predictions on Wednesday without adding in any explanations, he has no idea if he’s going to be the only one siding with one fighter for any given fight.
Can English stars Tom Aspinall, Paddy Pimblett, and Molly McCann put on a show again at UFC London?
Oezdemir has great technique and has only lost to the best in the division. The Scotsman simply has no quit in him and he’ll eventually find an opening to bring Oezdemir into his world. Look for Oezdemir to land hard shots on the feet and force Craig into fight-or-flight mode, where he excels. It’s long overdue that I started giving Craig the benefit of the doubt, so while I fully expect him to get dinged up by Oezdemir, I also have faith that he’ll be able to pull off one of his trademark come-from-behind finishes. I’m going Blaydes by decision, only because I don’t see Aspinall finishing him and Blaydes has an unblemished record when going to the scorecards. Paul Craig is the master of recovering from a bad start. On the other side, Blaydes has to avoid slipping on the proverbial banana peel that felled him in pivotal matchups against Ngannou and Derrick Lewis. Again, I understand, the Teixeira fight was a long time ago, but it’s easy to rationalize Gustafsson’s slump: Aspinall is a high-level grappler, but we’ve yet to see if he can deal with the elite top pressure that Blaydes brings to all of his fights. The biggest factor in my eyes is that I need to see how Aspinall fares on the defensive. On paper, it’s easy to see why Blaydes is willing to put his number on the line against one of the division’s fastest-rising fighters. Leavitt uses his range well, picking his opponents apart with straight punches and kicks, and has a tricky ground game that he utilizes once it comes down to close quarters combat.

However, in reality, he’s a tremendous ground fighter who has some solid skills on the feet. Paddy Pimblett is quickly blossoming into one of the biggest stars in the promotion. England’s Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett (18-3) will be making his third appearance as he takes on Jordan Leavitt (10-1).

In the main event, Curtis Blaydes takes on Tom Aspinall in a crucial heavyweight fight.
Paddy Pimblett had the last laugh before his fight with Jordan Leavitt at the UFC London staredowns on Friday.
Happy to be in another main event and happy to put on a show tomorrow night.” “These fans can expect an exciting heavyweight matchup between me and Curtis,” Aspinall said. Pimblett wasn’t the only fan favorite to put on a show during face-offs.

Unfortunately, Darren Till is missing this UFC Fight Night due to a knee injury.

It is well known by now that Pimblett balloons up to a considerable weight during his off time.
It's a huge night in UFC on Saturday, with the O2 Arena hosting the eagerly-anticipated UFC London – Will Dean has three bets to consider in his preview.
Given both men’s penchant for early finishes, and their vulnerability to the other’s skillset, a play on the Fight to end in Round 1 is certainly enticing at 7/4. Unfortunately for the American, Pimblett himself is a high-level grappler and should be able to neutralise any threats on the mat. In fact, of their combined 44 fights, Oezdemir and Craig have seen stoppage in the first round on 25 occasions. Despite not featuring at the top of the billing, PADDY PIMBLETT really is the superstar to watch at UFC London. The Liverpudlian stole the show in March, with yet another first round victory after facing some early adversity. With the patriotic crowd in his corner, I think Aspinall can rise to the occasion on Saturday night. If Aspinall ventures into the unknown and this fight reaches round three, then it is fair to assume his chances of winning will be significantly reduced.
In the main event, veteran contender Curtis Blaydes will square off against Tom Aspinall in a heavyweight contest. Blaydes has won six of his past seven fights, ...

Curtis Blaydes is currently the "toughest fight available" in the heavyweight division, says Britain's Tom Aspinall.
Paddy Pimblett has gone viral for his actions towards opponent at the UFC London weigh-in.
As well as the handshake snub which got the whole crowd laughing, Pimblett decided to send a message to those who doubted his ability to make the weight limit at the weigh-in in a rather unorthodox way. Pimblett and Leavitt’s weigh-in ending in a comical handshake snub is typical of the two fighters, who have both been playful characters of the UFC. The crowd were absolutely lapping it up as well. The handshake snub is a typical Pimblett move, who has become a fan favourite due to his antics and he certainly played up to his loyal British crowd ahead of this UFC London event.

“One-hundred percent,” McCann said. “That spinning elbow means f*** all on Saturday, doesn't it? That's not going to win me the fight, living off the last fight ...
Through all of this journey and through everything and through the last fight I’ve just realized I just want to be world champion. And if I’m honest with my goals and my dreams and my ambitions of being a world champion, then I can’t run away. “I’ve tried to be more of a role model and less of just a bevvy head. I’ve gone from the ‘I just want a bevvy game’ to the elbow game, and I wonder what we’ll get on Saturday night, what happens next.” I’ve went away and I’ve worked so hard on my grappling, even though it was the striking that won me the fight. What it has done is given me the belief, it’s given me the mental fortitude more to come into this one and know really what I’m capable of.

The energy given off by the loudmouth Liverpudlian and returned in kind by the adoring masses in the building suggested that – even as an unranked fighter – Pimblett could have main-evented the card. Records were broken as UFC London became the highest-grossing sporting event in the history of the O2 Arena, as well as the highest-grossing Fight Night that the UFC has ever staged. Aspinall is not alone in making a swift return to the O2; McCann will feature again, as will Paddy Pimblett, Paul Craig, Muhammad Mokaev and Jai Herbert. Till’s withdrawal may be seen as a sacrifice to the MMA gods so that the rest of the card may stay intact – unlike in 2019. Yet absence has a significant effect on the heart, its atriums and ventricles, and when the UFC ultimately returned to London this March, 17,081 fans and 24 mixed martial artists embraced the evening in equally full-blooded fashion. Britain’s own Leon Edwards was set to headline the card at the O2 Arena, taking on former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. The fight fell through, along with the rest of the event, and British fans’ one-year wait for a UFC event eventually grew into a three-year longing.
