The Multiverse Saga will span across three MCU phases and culminate in two Avengers films - here's all the Marvel release dates for cinemas and Disney Plus.
Based on the slate shown at SDCC, Marvel seemingly has plans for 11 projects in Phase 6, but it's only put names to three of them so far: 12 upcoming projects have been confirmed for Phase 5 of the MCU, including plenty of familiar faces. Those phase-concluding films will be in Phase 6, and we now know when to expect them.
Marvel Studios Announces Phase 5 and 6, the "Multiverse Saga": Sharing release dates for 'Captain America: New World Order,' 'Fantastic Four,' 'Avengers: ...
Most exciting, Phase 6 will be introduced with the debut of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, November 8, 2024. With Phase 5, Marvel Studios is preparing films like Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, Blade and Captain America: New World Order, along with long list of Disney+ series. Aside from all of the trailer releases at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, Marvel Studios delivered an expansive range of announcements.
But first some recap: the first three Phases in the MCU were pretty self-explanatory. Each Phase came to an end with an Avengers movie (and maybe a comedic solo ...
It’s the nature of the Thunderbolts name that at least one member of the team will eventually realize that they’re on the wrong side of history and rebel. Captain America might represent our country’s potential, but by contrast, the Thunderbolts will be a dark take on what our government is capable of in the wrong hands. Thunderbolts is the government taking the concept and putting their tyrannical spin on it. Fittingly, in the comics, there were two major instances where the world had to survive without the Avengers. In the late ’90s, in the aftermath of the Onslaught comic bookevent, the Avengers and Fantastic Four simply vanished. Secret Invasion is coming up early on in Phase 5, and while it likely won’t directly follow the comic event of the same name, the aftermath can easily go the same way. The number of Avengers members who are still active in the field on Earth is enough to count on one hand, and they are certainly not teamed up in any meaningful way. The government, already showing that they’re shady when it comes to Captain America’s history, lied to Sam Wilson and got him to give up his potential run as the new Cap in order to instead give the shield to someone they approved of and could easily order around. Back in Captain America: Civil War, when the General “Thunderbolt” Ross was threatening the Avengers with the Sokovia Accords, Steve Rogers feared that it would lead to a Thunderbolts-like, government-controlled superhero team. So far, six movies and six Disney+ shows have been announced for this next phase of Marvel storytelling, concluding with Thunderbolts. Then Phase 6 will kick off with Fantastic Four and end with a double-shot of Avengers movies, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. While Phases 1-3 were packaged as the Infinity Saga, Phases 4-6 will be known as the Multiverse Saga. Phase 1 was about the creation of the Avengers. Phase 2 built on that and had the various Avengers come close to building a worldwide happy ending until their hubris got the best of them. Then again, it also makes a bit of sense when linking an era with no Avengers to a climactic Avengers doubleheader in Phase 6. Phase 4 ends with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever this November. Phase 5 will quickly follow, starting with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in February and Secret Invasion in Spring 2023.

Secret Wars has historically served as a reset button in the comic books, giving writers the opportunity to eliminate characters, storylines, and universes that weren’t working. Feige also confirmed that Kingpin, who appeared in that Netflix Daredevil series and again in the Disney+ show Hawkeye, will be the main antagonist in Born Again. Marvel dropped a sneak peak of the third Ant-Man film for fans at Comic-Con. At the beginning of the movie, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang (Ant-Man) has written a book about how he helped save the world. At the last MCU Comic-Con panel in 2019, Mahershala Ali announced that he would play the iconic role of Blade, the vampire hunter. In the comics, the Secret Wars storyline terminated many universes in the multiverse, save fan-favorite strands, essentially hitting the reset button on the whole of Marvel comics. (Wanda has canonically been both an X-Men and an Avenger in the comics. During the panel at Comic-Con, Kevin Feige hinted that Kang the Conquerer may serve a similar purpose in Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU. He invited actor Jonathan Majors onstage and introduced him as the villainous genius who wants to conquer the multiverse. That said, a variant Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) already appeared in Multiverse of Madness. And Wandavision planted the seeds for a storyline. He popped up in post-credits scenes and made cameos in Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok. Even when he didn’t appear in a film, the Infinity Stones he coveted did. She will star in her own Disney+ series, Ironheart, in the next phase of the MCU. But fans have theorized the Shuri, Nakia, or perhaps even a parallel universe Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan, who played the role in the original film and is a longtime collaborator of Coogler’s) might at least wear T’Challa’s old gear. “You survived a looping, endless apocalypse and made it here to a Comic-Con panel at the end of time,” she said.

Looking at the diverse lineup of movies and TV coming down the pipeline, Feige's comments make a lot of sense. Both where it’s on an express train to the finale and also when it’s a fun, as many of our Phase 1, 2, and 3 films were." According to Feige, the future lineup of movies and television shows from Marvel will still leave room for more standalone stories. "Some of the films and shows will connect, some of them won’t. I think it’s just as important that we can have standalone introductory stories like Ms. Marvel, like Moon Knight, in addition to things that interconnect and build towards the larger story. So some of the tags will connect, some of them won’t. " "Well, I think the truth is...
Marvel Studios announced at Comic-Con its timeline for the MCU's phase 5 and 6, also known as The Multiverse Saga.
Thunderbolts will serve as the end for Phase 5 and previous MCU villains rumored to appear are Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), John Walker aka U.S Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) and Abomination (Tim Roth). Julias Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) is set to direct. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced at Comic-Con that Phase 6 will have TWO Avengers films within six months of each other and will serve similarly as a two-part Multiverse Saga finale a-la Infinity War and Endgame. Going by title alone, Secret Wars has the potential to absolutely outclass Endgame in its sheer volume of cameos and appearances. The good news is that this new Daredevil show will consist of 18 episodes with Vincent D'Onofrio is also set to co-star to reprise his role as Kingpin. The upcoming Disney+ series will see Nick Fury and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn's character from Captain Marvel) team up to unravel a conspiracy in which the shapeshifting aliens known as Skrulls have invaded the highest levels of Earth's governments. Regardless, the appearance of Julia Louis-Dreyfus's Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Falcon and the Winter Soldier should have made it quite obvious that this team-up of villains would happen sooner or later. Ironheart will focus on Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams aka Ironheart. Filming began in early June with Sam Bailey (You're So Talented) and Angela Barnes set to direct. Most of these phase 5 projects have been in the pipeline now for a while, with some new projects rumored to be getting their own announcements. Not much is known so far about the show as it hasn't even hit production yet. After some slight controversy that saw him briefly let go from Marvel, James Gunn will return for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3. Ali has been in the MCU, having previously played the villain Cornell Stokes aka Cottonmouth in Netflix's Luke Cage series. Bassam Tariq (Ghosts of Sugar Land) will direct with Delroy Lindo co-starring.

The production and creative quality of everything, of course, will also dictate how the MCU fares over the next few years of its existence. But he didn’t give too much – just enough to give us a sense of where this is all leading without detailing every path that the MCU will take to get there. Some of the movies have met with less-than-stellar reviews and box office, although in the case of the latter the still-lingering effects of the pandemic might have been a factor. But Marvel came to Comic-Con and did it again – sending the fans home happy and throwing down a gauntlet which no other franchise has been able to pick up. As pointed out above, we don’t even know who is in the Avengers right now, or if there even is an Avengers. Several of its founding members are dead or gone; others are offworld or have gone to ground. But Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had more critics than usual – despite its massive box office take – while the jury is still out on the very divisive Thor: Love and Thunder. Maybe some of those will be aired at the D23 Expo in September. But there’s no denying that films like Black Widow and especially Eternals were dismissed fairly quickly and, in the case of the latter, met with outright disappointment. Not even Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom or The Flash, both of which are imminent (at least for now) in early 2023. But the studio nevertheless did nearly everything it could today to restore the confidence of its fans – with more yet to come. This writer even enjoyed the new Black Adam trailer a lot more than the first. But this was not the day for that.

Marvel Studios has confirmed Phase 5 will start with Ant-Man 3, but what else is involved? Here's all the movies and TV shows coming in Phase 5 of the MCU.
The movie will bring back all your favourites, including Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Karen Gillan as Nebula and Zoe Saldaña as Gamora – but not the one we remember. Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer also return as Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, respectively, while Kathryn Newton takes over the role of Scott's daughter Cassie Lang. We don't know much about the plot of either of them yet, but we do know that the new Daredevil series will be 18 episodes long and it will feature Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin. We get a double-bill of TV action in summer 2023 with Hawkeye spin-off Echo and season two of Loki. The former brings back Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo and is also said to star Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio as Daredevil and Kingpin, respectively. But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves right now. Phase Five of the MCU will kick off in February 2023 with the release of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania – and there are plenty of other treats for Marvel fans in store.
