Playing on the left side of the back three, his vision was impressive as he swung long balls straight and across the pitch to release the wingbacks time and again. Much better from the Blues today against a Blackpool side playing their last preseason game before the start of their campaign. The second half started with a couple of changes for the Blues as Mason Holgate and Michael Keane came on, with Mina and Godfrey sitting. Rondon came off and Alex Iwobi came on for him and immediately was involved in a goal. The Blues looked to emphasize the long balls over the top for the wingbacks to run into, and within ten minutes were two goals ahead. Garbutt’s inswinging corner from the Everton left was met by Connolly and he headed home gleefully to make it 3-2.

FRANK LAMPARD has reportedly lost patience with Dele Alli after just six months at Everton.

Everton have reduced their wage bill by letting Cenk Tosun and Jonjoe Kenny leave on free deals this summer, but business has been muted at Goodison Park as Lampard is left with little tools to work with. But even Lampard has lost patience with Alli, with the Everton fans also speaking out against his inclusion due to recent performances. One of those terms is that Everton must pay Tottenham £10m when Alli makes 20 appearances, and with the midfielder already on 11 outings it won't be long until it's triggered.

There was a good-natured pitch invasion of mostly young kids at the end. The change of defenders at half-time brought about predictable worries. Does anyone remember the draw at Old Trafford when he passed to Mina in an offside position late in the game. Does anyone remember the draw at Old Trafford when he passed to Mina in an offside position late in the game. Thoughts/observations on the game? Dele is a strange one because at times he looks totally disinterested but then comes up with a well-timed run or nice piece of skill. He'll surely come good at some point. We can't afford passengers in midfield, especially with this obsession with 5 at the back. The players we use across the middle are average at best and inconsistent. I think five at the back is more about covering the deficiencies in midfield than because it suits the defenders. The only changes at half-time were Keane and Holgate replacing Mina and Godfrey as Rondon restarted the match. But goals this afternoon from Everton may be at a premium as they have failed to score so far away from the training fields since returning from their close-season break.

But this is a player who was once the main man in the Blues' midfield. Andre Gomes is yet to kick a ball for the Blues this season, and there has been no indication from the club that he has an injury. Luckily this was just a friendly, but ahead of the real stuff starting in just under two weeks, Lampard will be hoping the penny will have finally dropped by then, otherwise it could be another long season when it comes to defending set-pieces. Once again the big problem for Everton and Lampard is set-pieces. For the first time in pre-season, Everton looked much more composed and organised at the back. Four quite simply doesn't work for the Blues at the moment.

Don't miss a thing from the club you love! Slack at times in his play and defensive positioning however. Blackpool need a full back in the door before Reading. Gary Madine pulled one back just before half-time for the Seasiders with his header from a yard out after Jordan Pickford struggled to save Josh Bowler's driven effort at goal. The Seasiders high defensive line became increasingly disjointed throughout with Everton targeting the late direct ball in behind to open up opportunities. The Seasiders couldn't cope with an intense Everton press and they quickly found themselves two down after playing an offside trap, with the run appearing to be offside, Tom Davies couldn't miss from the resulting delivery.

The Blues boss welcomed the impact of Dele Alli as the 26-year-old scored twice in Everton's pre-season win at Blackpool.

It was a trademark of his as he broke through at Tottenham for a number of seasons, and we all know what has happened in between, but if he is going to get back to the best of what we want from him he has to arrive into those areas and score those kind of goals. He said: "It has to be not just Dele but other attacking areas of the pitch, we have to be more clinical and get in goalscoring areas. Alli's display was one of several positives that stood out, the former Tottenham Hotspur player scoring twice and repeatedly presenting a threat to Blackpool.

Broja would represent a turning point in the transfer window and get fans back into a joyous mood. Broja wants a permanent move to seal regular first-team football, but Newcastle are interested in a loan deal and Chelsea would prefer that option as they are yet to make a decision on his long-term future. That has opened the door for Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell to move back in to the race as they look to replace Richarlison following his £60m sale to Tottenham earlier this summer.

What Everton fans sang during Blackpool win as new James ... (Liverpool Echo)

Some of the action that may have passed under the radar during Everton's first win of pre-season at Blackpool.

Lampard is in the hunt for more options in midfield but a bonus of Tarkowski's signing is his array of passing. Gone were the nerves of last season, this time replaced by a tongue-in-cheek rendition of: "We're going to win the league." Dele Alli missed a guilt-edged opportunity in the Minnesota United game but responded with an impressive display at Blackpool that saw him score two goals. James Tarkowski was a signing that made a lot of sense for the Blues. The centre back offers leadership, resilience and a healthy fitness record in a key area in which Everton suffered a series of disruptive injuries last season. Away from the headlines of the Blues' trip to the seaside, here are some moments that may have been missed. Dele Alli, Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko were among the stand out performers as Frank Lampard reverted to five at the back.

Nathan Patterson's agent rubbishes 'embarrassing' loan transfer ... (Football Scotland)

Patterson had been reportedly set for a loan out of the Toffees but Grant Smith refuted those suggestions.

It had been claimed in other media outlets that Patterson was ready to be farmed out on loan after playing just 45 minutes last term in a cup match against Boreham Wood. But now his agent has blasted those reports and condemned the decision to "harm" the Scotland cap. Grant Smith represents the former Rangers kid and insists a loan move out of the Toffees has never been discussed as Frank Lampard considers the 20-year-old's immediate future at Goodison Park. Patterson played for Everton against Blackpool yesterday and provided two assists as he continues his pre-season training to gain fitness and minutes under the belt to give himself the best chance of starting the new campaign on the front foot. Nathan Patterson's agent has savaged claims that the Everton youngster is set to leave the club on loan this summer - branding the suggestion "embarrassing".

Everton could sign club-record deal as ban enforced - Kieran Maguire (Football Insider)

Football Insider has been told by Kieran Maguire that Everton could soon sign a club-record sleeve sponsorship deal worth more than £10m-a-year.

What we could see is sleeve sponsors being more valuable than front-of-shirt deals. The Liverpool ECHO reported earlier this month (16 July) that they are close to announcing a deal with an unnamed US firm. Maguire suggests that the Toffees could earn even more than from a future sleeve deal with a gambling company after the front-of-shirt ban comes into action.

Dele Alli shows glimpse of form as Everton seek ways to replace ... (The Independent)

Dele Alli scored twice in a friendly win over Blackpool in encouraging signs for manager Frank Lampard ahead of the new season.

Lampard preferred not to burden Alli with the task of replacing Richarlison. “It has to be a collective, of losing Richy and what he brought to the side, it has to be not just Dele,” he said. It featured Richarlison’s last Everton goal and now he is gone, sold to Tottenham for £60m. A search for a successor has been a slow-burner. “They are goals I want to see from him,” said Frank Lampard. “It was a trademark of his as he broke through at Tottenham for a number of seasons and we all know what has happened in between but if he is going to get back to the best of what we want from him he has to arrive into those areas and score those kind of goals.” Rebuilding Alli has been a gradual affair, with his regular presence on the bench last season underlining that there has been no swift way back to his best. “I was kicking myself after the chance I had in the other game but it was a chance to put that right,” Alli said after a belated return to the scoresheet. The second was a better finish, turned in from a cross from the other wing-back, Nathan Patterson, after a well-timed run to the near post.
