Alex Jones is being sued by families of Sandy Hook victims after being found legally responsible in October for making false statements about the victims.
In recent years, Jones and his legal team tried to get two lower courts to dismiss the lawsuits against him and Infowars, but failed. At the time, Jones told the millions who watch his show and visit his site that it was a "false flag" operation staged by crisis actors posing as grieving parents to strengthen gun control laws. Leonard Pozner and Veronique De La Rosa, who lost their 6-year-old son Noah Pozner in the tragedy, are set to appear in court in September in Austin, where Jones' Infowars is based. It remains today one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history. Later that month, families of eight other victims will testify in Connecticut. "What we heard was a conspiracy of lies.

In total, the families of eight Sandy Hook victims and an FBI agent who responded to the school are suing Mr Jones and his company, Free Speech Systems. Between the two sides' opening statements, Mr Jones stepped outside of the courtroom to rant to reporters, calling it a "kangaroo court" and "show trial" that was an assault on the First Amendment. Mr Bankston played videos of Mr Jones claiming on his program that the shooting was a hoax and "the whole thing was completely fake". He said that Mr Jones had tapped into the explosive popularity of Sandy Hook conspiracy stories that became an "obsession" for the website, even years after the massacre. Mr Bankston said Mr Jones created a "massive campaign of lies" and recruited "wild extremists from the fringes of the internet … who were as cruel as Mr Jones wanted them to be" to the families of the 20 first-graders and six educators who were killed. The parents' attorney, Mark Bankston, said that Mr Jones repeatedly "lied and attacked the parents of murdered children" when he told his InfoWars audience that the shootings were a hoax.

The presenter was soon inundated with well wishes from friends and fans, with Charlotte Hawkins writing: "Hope all OK, sending love." One fan stated: "Keep smiling that lovely smile, lots of love." There is an ongoing trial to decide how much Alex Jones must pay some of the families. He will face two more similar trials this year.
One of the trials will also be in Texas while the other will take place in Connecticut in September. It's unclear how much money Jones will have to pay the parents of the victims. He admitted it was real in a sworn deposition in 2019 and said "a form of psychosis" led him to spread the false claims. Jones was one of the loudest voices—and the one with the biggest bullhorn—among an entire community of conspiracists propagating false claims about the massacre. Jones exhibited "flagrant bad faith and callous disregard for the responsibilities of discovery under the rules," one judge said. Jones was already found guilty in the defamation cases — four separate lawsuits across Texas and Connecticut — last year.

"Because you're lying to them," she said of the parents. In true InfoWars fashion, Karpova then tried to flip reality on its head. She claimed that that the mother and father were indeed being lied to — not by Jones, who repeatedly called the school shooting a "hoax," but by their own lawyer.
Mark Bankston, attorney for the Sandy Hook parents, questioned Infowars producer Daria Karpova on Wednesday, with Infowars host Owen Shroyer still to come.
“Is that what you are going to say?” The two-week trial, which will set the pace for two additional upcoming awards trials from Sandy Hook defamation cases Jones lost in Texas and Connecticut, will feature no re-arguing of Jones’ liability. More drama was expected later Wednesday when a rising star on Infowars is scheduled to take the stand. “Are Neil and Scarlett right here fake parents?” The parents’ attorney Bankston spent Wednesday grilling Karpova about videos Jones posted perpetuating the conspiracy theory that the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax, and about Jones allowing a Sandy Hook denier to share his views with millions of Infowars listeners. AUSTIN, Texas — The parents’ attorney pointed to Scarlett Lewis and Neil Heslin sitting behind him in court and asked a representative of Alex Jones’ Infowars conspiracy platform if Jones still believed they were crisis actors in a Sandy Hook shooting that was “a total hoax.”
Austin trial will determine how much money Alex Jones must pay to parents of a Sandy Hook victim for defamation and emotional distress.
"To me, this seems like a person who was very perturbed by the incident and horrified, in his mind, that the children were used for this tragedy," Karpova said. "You're their enemy because you're lying to them. The parents are asking the jury to issue a $150 million judgment against Jones and his main company, Free Speech Systems.
What comes after death penalty sanctions? Alex Jones is fixin' to find out.
He also told the jury that his client had a medical condition which might force him to be absent from court — a convenient cover when Jones disappeared after lunch to go do his broadcast begging his listeners for “support” against evildoers trying to cancel culture his sacred First Amendment right to slander the parents of dead babies. “We’re not going to have that again,” she said, ordering him to keep his mouth shut where members of the jury might be able to hear him. So it’s no surprise that Jones began the day with the ridiculous duct tape stunt, although he did manage to remove it while seated in the courtroom. The defendant was considerably less brave when it came to facing his accusers. The funerals fake, their tears fake.” Sponsored
Jones is being sued by Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, whose 6-year-old son, Jesse, died in the 2012 mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
He was trying to do honest investigative research to the best of his ability and that’s his job,” she claimed. Judge Maya Guerro Gamble previously ruled against Jones after he failed to produce documents for court-ordered discovery in the case. Start your Independent Premium subscription today.
Detective Daniel Jewiss told the jury on the first day of testimony in a, Austin, Texas trial that Alex Jones knew the truth about the Sandy Hook shooting ...
The trial began Monday in Austin, Texas — where Jones lives and broadcasts his show — following months of delays. Jones repeatedly “lied and attacked the parents of murdered children” when he told his Infowars audience that the shooting was a hoax, Bankston said. In both states, the judges issued default judgments against Jones without trials because he failed to respond to court orders and turn over documents. Jones’ media company designated Karpova to testify about Infowars’ audience reach and some of the videos produced by the website after the Sandy Hook shooting. The jury could deal Jones a major financial blow that would put his constellation of conspiracy peddling businesses into deeper jeopardy. Jones has also urged listeners on his Infowars program to donate money. Jones has since acknowledged that the shooting took place. “Alex Jones was wrong to believe these people, but he didn’t do it out of spite. ... Speech is free, but lies you have to pay for.” ... He believed a citizen has a right to get on Infowars and talk about what their questions are,” Reynal said. “They were the most dangerous. ... It just didn’t happen.”
