England vs Germany Women's EURO final preview: Where to watch ... (UEFA.com)

When is it? How can you watch it? What are the possible line-ups? All you need to know about the UEFA Women's EURO 2022 final between England and Germany.

Story so far: The Lionesses breezed through the group stage (14 goals scored, none conceded) but the quarter-final against Spain provided a much sterner test. Beth Mead, England forward: "We've got to believe in our ability and stick to our game plan. Led by their inspiring captain Alex Popp, this is a team in every sense of the word. Home advantage may play its part, but Germany can take courage from colossal TV audiences at home (over 12 million watched their semi-final win against France). Martina Voss-Tecklenburg's side went under the radar coming into this tournament, but their high-pressing style and composure in front of goal have taken them back to the pinnacle of the European game. With a Women's EURO-record finals crowd expected at Wembley, the tournament has the blockbuster final it deserved: a meeting of the hosts and the most successful team in the competition's history.

England vs Germany: Lionesses face the best-drilled team in ... (Evening Standard)

As early as the third day of this European Championship, you began to sense that we might just end up here.

The slight shock came in France’s immediate reply, the German defence breached for the first time. Almost. For while logic, form, bookmakers and even the final scoreline all hinted at there being little between the sides, Germany’s progression was inevitable throughout a semi-final which, fittingly, ran somewhere close to script. Nor was it a victory as emphatic as England’s routing of Sweden 24 hours earlier.

The Lionesses will be going for glory on home soil at Wembley Stadium. Sunday's final kicks off at 5pm (BST) and is live on BBC One.

The golden boot is “well within sight”, said Sky Sports. Mead has matched the record for most goals in a single Women’s Euros, set in 2009 by former Germany striker Inka Grings. “We will be playing at Wembley in front of 80,000 or 90,000 people and most of them for England and against us but we understand that and we’re accepting the challenge. “It is about doing our job on the pitch,” said the 25-year-old. She led her native Netherlands to victory in 2017. Then in 2009 they lost 6-2 to Germany. Should England triumph at Wembley it would also see head coach Serena Wiegman win the tournament for the second time in succession.

Uefa Women's Euro 2022 final preview: All you need to know about the Wembley showpiece.

Having guided her home country Holland to glory at the most recent Euros in 2017 and to a World Cup final in 2019, Sarina Wiegman is one of the most respected coaches in the sport and is on a mission to win more silverware. This summer’s tournament will be the 10th of Scott’s career, including two Olympics. England have deployed a 4-3-3 system under Wiegman, but that is usually adapted into something resembling a 4-2-3-1 with Manchester City’s Keira Walsh and Arsenal’s Leah Williamson deployed in a double pivot of holding players in midfield. Up to 7,000 fans will be able to watch a free screening of the final inside a Fan Zone on Sunday. It will be standing only, although space for wheelchairs is available. Martina Voss-Tecklenburg won this competition four times as a player and spent six years in charge of the Swiss national team before taking over her home nation in 2019. England v Germany and Weird Uncle Fiver's big Wembley day out (The Guardian)

In today's Fiver: England and Germany set up a Klassiker of a Euro 2022 final, and tempers flare at Torino.

Bild have reported that the former Arsenal keeper damaged several roof beams “in a frenzy of rage”. “I always read the Fiver, as it is essential for my health to digest each day at least one thing that is meaningless pap. He has repeatedly barged into the Fiver family WhatsApp to show his disdain that they have moved EastEnders and the One Show for the sake of women kicking a ball. Imagine my surprise, then when I read the opening two paragraphs of Wednesday’s Fiver and was taken aback by actual proper journalism that puts Big Paper to shame. As he messaged the WhatsApp group this morning: “If you don’t put a flare up your [snip! – Fiver Ed] on Sunday, you’re a s£xist.” Uncle Fiver has bad memories of facing the Germans. He once went to test-drive a BMW but left upset after finding out he had to bring it back. From that day on he vowed to only ever buy British, so is currently driving an Austin Metro and gets by without lightbulbs in his house. Also, can you keep printing this letter until you put prizes back on?” – Niall Flanagan (and 1,056 others). It’s a Klassiker, it will be an incredible final. “It will be a great football feast. Last year’s Euros final was perhaps the best day of Weird Uncle Fiver’s life, apart from the loss on penalties and his subsequently arrest. Now, though, Weird Uncle Fiver has changed his tune because there is a little bit of history between the two nations and, frankly, he has jumped on every bandwagon since the wheel was invented.

She has named the same starting XI for every game at this tournament and is expected to do so again on Sunday. No manager, in a men’s or women’s Euros, has done that. There is a belief at the FA and among the players that this is the best-prepared England squad ever. The squad travelled back from Sheffield on Wednesday morning after their 4-0 semi-final win over Sweden, with those who played doing a recovery session in the afternoon. Everyone knows about 1966, 1990 and 1996, but Germany beat England 6-2 the last time the Lionesses reached a major final, in 2009. Now they are in the final, England must not forget what got them there. xThey are not the dominant force they once were but they are a slick, well-oiled machine who have a knack of turning up when it matters most.

Walsh has been impressive all tournament for England in the centre of midfield, and embodies the spirit installed into the team by Wiegman, while 20-year-old Oberdorf has grown throughout the competition. Left-back Daly arguably struggled against Spain during England’s quarter-final victory and most of the Spanish attacking threat was down their right-hand side, but the 30-year-old has been a source of strength during other matches. The 31-year-old Wolfsburg forward is joint leader – alongside England’s Beth Mead – in the race to win the Golden Boot with six goals from five matches and she will provide a formidable test for Bright and her defensive colleagues.

Sarina Wiegman's Lionesses are facing Germany in a historic Euro 2022 final at Wembley on Sunday.

Although defensive midfielders are usually the ones who go under the radar, the battle to gain the upper hand in the middle of the park could go a long way to determining the outcome of the final. Bright has been a stalwart of England’s defence throughout the Euros and led the backline of a team who have only conceded one goal so far – however, she faces a tough challenge against Germany captain Alexandra Popp. Germany – who booked their place at Wembley with a semi-final victory over France – are a powerhouse of European women’s football, having won all eight finals it has played – and they crushed England 6-2 in the 2009 final.
