Neill was also proud to be be able to say he scored the only goal of the game the last time Northern Ireland beat England at Wembley 50 years ago.

It was with great sadness that the club learned of the death of former manager and captain, Terry Neill, aged 80.

His larger-than-life character and willingness to talk football with everyone always made him a well-liked figure at the club on matchdays. His team also reached the 1980 European Cup Winners Cup final, agonisingly losing to Valencia on penalties. His illustrious playing career also featured 44 caps for Northern Ireland, whom he also captained, and a stint as PFA Chairman in 1967.

Terry Neill, who led Arsenal to three consecutive FA Cup finals from 1978-80, has died aged 80.

He played 59 times for Northern Ireland and had a spell as their part-time manager. He played 275 games for the club and at 20 became the youngest captain in their history, later returning as their youngest-ever manager. The former Arsenal and Tottenham manager Terry Neill has died aged 80.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of our former manager, Terry Neill, who has died at the age of 80.

He made his first team debut for the Gunners aged 18 and at 20, he became their youngest-ever captain, a record which still stands today. He featured 275 times for Arsenal and won 44 caps for Northern Ireland while at Highbury. He joined Hull City as a player-manager in June, 1970, and took on a similar role with Northern Ireland in October, 1971, playing over 100 league games for the Tigers and winning a further 15 caps before retiring from playing to concentrate on management.

Arsenal great Terry Neill has died at the age of 80. The Northern Irishman captained the Gunners and managed them to FA Cup victory in 1979.

Neill managed both of his former clubs as well as Tottenham and his country on a part-time basis. The former centre-half would go on to manage the north London outfit for seven years, starting in 1976, after he crossed the divide having been in charge of rivals Tottenham. Neill was born in Belfast in 1942 and played in Bangor's youth team before joining Arsenal for £2,500 in 1959.
