Alan Fletcher, better known to Neighbours viewers as Ramsey Street's own Karl Kennedy, had a message for fans in the UK.

Neighbours returning cast members f or the last show include Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who arrived back on Ramsay Street as Scott and Charlene; Hollywood A-lister Guy Pearce as Mike and Ann Charles, who appears as a ghost version of much loved character Madge. Neighbours star Alan Fletcher, who plays Karl Kennedy, chats to Digital Spy ahead of the show's finale.
So as soon as Neighbours ends, I launch my EP here in Australia. Then I jump over to the UK and do a couple of gigs in London. Then, in September, I come back and do the Dr Karl tour as well as playing some music. If they come knocking and say, 'Home and Away needs a resident doctor who has the ability to heal people across every medical discipline', I would obviously have to be the go-to for that!" All we've been focusing on is that the show is finishing now, and that's all we can do about it. "There was a time when Karl wasn't doctoring, and he got himself a job as a pharmaceutical rep. "But the good thing is, Neighbours doesn't end when it ends. Izzy came back later, of course, in a kind of reprise of the story, to try and convince Karl to have another child with her. "To be honest with you, I thought it was a pretty 50/50 situation. Behind the scenes, people have been working feverishly to try and contact people from the past and invite them to come in and do cameos, or do Zooms – whatever we can get – and stitch it all together. "But we are just grateful to both of them for doing that. "When the money was pulled, a lot of people were saying: 'Maybe they could find some other source of funding'. Unfortunately, TV doesn't quite work like that. So that robbed us of the finances to make the show. We are very, very grateful for the support that they gave the show, but there was a feeling that things might be changing.

Due to the drastic change in his appearance, producers of Neighbours had to quickly come up with a storyline for Dr Kennedy, blaming his hair loss on a “dodgy hair product”. The type that affects Fletcher, alopecia areata is the most common and refers to patchy baldness. Another known cause of hair loss or alopecia is stress. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) explains that a specific hormone known as dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is derived from testosterone. One thing fans have noticed in more recent episodes of the Australian soap is the drastic difference in Fletcher's appearance, which he revealed is down to a condition known as alopecia areata. Yet another possible trigger for alopecia is thyroid issues.
