Star Wars fans received a major shock on Monday morning when the official trailer for Andor revealed a release date of September 21, not the August 31 date ...
So while we may have to wait a little longer for Andor, Disney+ may try to keep the gaps between Star Wars and Marvel content even shorter going forward. Without a big archive and a constant flow of new releases, it’s difficult to keep subscribers around month to month. But how does all that affect Andor? Well, the Disney+ business model relies on new work releasing every month to keep subscribers from canceling.
Lucasfilm has dropped a revealing new batch of still from Andor, while it's been confirmed that the show's premiere has been delayed by a number of weeks ...
Andor explores a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. Earlier today, Disney+ released a new trailer for Andor that, quite frankly, makes the show look nothing short of essential viewing. Elsewhere, we see Cassian in an Imperial uniform, Death Troopers, and some intriguing new locations.
The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi all did something Andor will not do.
The aim, of course, is to make Andor not just look different from all of the other Star Wars shows before it, but to make it fit in seamlessly with the look of Andor’s previous appearance in Rogue One, which was also filmed on location and on soundstages. StageCraft is a new technology that was first used on The Mandalorian, and has since been used on The Book of Boba Fett as well as Obi-Wan Kenobi. It involves placing a huge circle of monitors on a soundstage with the ability to display any location in real time. But not Andor. From the first few images of the brand new trailer you can see that Andor actually did shoot on distant mountaintops. No longer do you need to travel to distant mountaintops to film on distant mountaintops; they can be recreated in a studio in Los Angeles on these incredible monitors. That fourth show is Andor, created by Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy, and it debuts on Disney+ September 21. The main thing that stopped George Lucas from making Star Wars TV shows decades ago was money.
'Andor' on Disney Plus looks like the best thing Star Wars has done since Rogue One.
Andor takes place before the events of Rogue One (obviously) when the rebellion was just beginning. The first trailer for Andor was honestly one of the best things Disney has done with Star Wars all year. The second trailer is even better.
Andor, the upcoming Star Wars live-action series on Disney+, won't only bring back Saw Gerrera but also Chancellor Valorum!
Andor has been delayed to Sept. 21, but the wait also means the first three episodes of the series will drop that Wednesday! It seems Luthen is being set up as a previously unknown founder of the Rebel Alliance, and also doesn’t seem afraid to get his own hands dirty by the way he shoots at TIE fighters in one scene. We see them operating on the character played by Alex Lawther (The End of the F***ing World). Since Andor takes place five years before the events of Rogue One, it doesn’t look like the Partisans have yet settled on Jedha to sabotage the Imperial kyber crystal mining operation, which is why their base looks a bit different in this trailer. When it drops on streaming later this fall, Andor is poised to finally deliver the backstory for one of the best Star Wars characters of the Disney era. In the trailer, we watch him not only meeting with Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma on Coruscant but also trying to recruit Saw Gerrera and Cassian to his new cause.
"Star Wars" series "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and "The Mandalorian" used an LED wall called StageCraft to create images in real time on set. "Andor" avoided it.
StageCraft can be a money-saving mechanism, and building practical sets could have inflated "Andor's" production costs. The volume on a set is typically the space where a green screen would be located and images would be created. The tech was used on "Rogue One," however.
The video wall used in Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book Of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian wasn't used on the Rogue One spin-off. Read more at Empire.
“Yep, we’re old-school,” chuckles series mastermind (and Rogue One alumnus) Tony Gilroy, in Empire’s major new Andor feature – coming soon in the House Of The Dragon issue. “As an actor, it’s beautiful,” says Luna on the practical production. “In Pitlochry, Scotland, we had to walk for hours up a mountain to set up one shot,” says Luna. “Huge effort. Amazing! Like being on another planet.” Prepare for Andor to make the Star Wars galaxy feel bigger than ever before. Upcoming Rogue One prequel series Andor – telling the story of Diego Luna’s rebel Cassian Andor amid the rising rebellion in the five years running up to that movie – went predominantly practical with its environments. As new documentary series Light & Magic makes clear, Star Wars has always been at the forefront of technical innovations in movie production.
The Star Wars franchise just keeps expanding. The latest galaxy far, far away that the LucasFilm firm is set to visit is the forthcoming spin-off series ...
The series looks to shed new light on “Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The Star Wars franchise just keeps expanding. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved.”
Yeah, this looks awesome. Disney+ have just unveiled the first proper trailer for Rogue One prequel series Andor – watch it now.
She told us about the people who inspire her… But who are the hero’s heroes? It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.’
Andor will launch on Disney+ with three episodes releasing on its launch day, but that launch day has now been pushed back.
Created by Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One, the series stars a host of returning Star Wars characters along with a good mix of new ones. The new trailer features Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, who we first met in Rogue One. This prequel series is set before that movie and explores the birth of the Rebellion and how Andor came to be such an integral part of it. The original air date of August 31 is now not happening.
Arriving on 21 September with a three-episode premiere, the Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor also has a new trailer, teasing plenty ...
It’s the beginning of the origins of a revolution, and it’s a beautiful story because it reminds us what we are capable of, what we are all capable of. “We’re going to meet him when life is tough. “We don’t work with green screens — the stuff is built.

But Andor will begin with a triple-episode premiere. We've been waiting a while now for Andor to arrive. The show takes place in the five-year build up to ...
With Andor’s second series already confirmed, it was slated to begin with a double-episode drop on August 31st. Rogue One, of course, was the prequel movie that dovetailed neatly into the first Star Wars movie (these days known as Episode IV or A New Hope.) The show takes place in the five-year build up to the events of Rogue One, showing the build-up of the rebellion.
The new series stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, a thief whose homeworld was destroyed by the Empire and who goes on to be a crucial part in sending the Death ...
We currently only know of three confirmed characters returning from other Star Wars media to appear in the series. After Rogue One saw Cassian Andor meet his end, it's unsurprising that this series is a prequel to that film. Tony Gilroy, the series' creator recently confirmed with Empire that the first season would chart one year in the timeline, while season 2 will chart four years in total, meaning that by the end of the series, the five years between this new series and Rogue One will have passed, and Andor will be off to meet his noble end on Scarif.
The new Star War series starring Diego Luna and Genevieve O'Reilly is coming to Disney Plus later this year. By Steven Ross. Tuesday, 2nd August 2022, ...
Season two will cover the four years before the events of Rogue One, with the final episode ending where the film began. The first season will cover a span of one year, ending four years before the events of Rogue One. There are 12 episodes in the series and the final episode will land on Disney Plus on 23 November. Who is in the cast of Andor? Andor is set five years before Rogue One during the early days of the Rebel Alliance which was formed to oppose the domination of the Galactic Empire. Andor is an upcoming Disney Plus Star Wars spin-off series which follows the character Cassian Andor who first appeared in the 2016 film Rogue One.
It's been confirmed that Andor is the first Star Wars TV series on Disney+ to not make use of The Volume, and we have some fun comments from Head Writer ...
Andor explores a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. First utilised on the set of The Mandalorian, it allows Lucasfilm to digitally create backgrounds while shooting is taking place. The Star Wars franchise has always pushed the boundaries of technology, but The Volume has been a total game-changer.
Star Wars Andor look bigger than Obi-Wan, Mandalorian, and Boba Fett, as pointed out by fans.
"Imagine giving this level of cinematography to the spin off show of a side character in a spin off movie," one commenter says, "when Obi Wan looked as cheap as it did." This success story definitely has something to do with the series of TV shows premiering exclusively on Disney+. While these series have been great, they don't often have an epic sense of scale to them.
Empire Magazine has released a new still picture from the upcoming Andor series, as well as new interviews with the cast and crew.
He is that guy who will watch a black and white movie, just because it is in black and white. We took a close look at what it presented and tried to elaborate on a few theories about what the show could bring us. In this new image (see above), we see Fiona Shaw’s Maarva interact with Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor, an encounter that was already hinted at by the trailer when we saw Maarva and B2-EMO together.
Tony Gilroy's Rogue One spin-off is a full-on political thriller in the Star Wars galaxy. Read more at Empire.
For Gilroy himself, the series continues in the tradition of the rest of his work. “Tony has written a great, scurrilous [take] on the Trumpian world,” says Fiona Shaw, who plays Maarva in the series. In many ways, it’s not surprising that Tony Gilroy has taken on a Star Wars project of his own with upcoming series Andor – after all, he was majorly involved in Rogue One, the film from which this new adventure originates, and on which he’s credited as a co-writer.
The Empire is in expansion mode. We already saw hints of this in the first teaser, with the opening drums, but the threat seems bigger than ever when the Star ...
In this new scene, we get a clear shot of his ship, which looks very similar to the prop that was being built in these pictures taken on the second set the show built in the Highlands. Another reason is that Andor was going to open two days before the series premiere of the most expensive show of all time, The Rings of Power, which is inevitably also bringing the most expensive marketing campaign in streaming history. This will allow us to see the entire first arc of the series in full on the first day, and get a sense of what the show is really about. Also, as a member of the Star Wars News Net writing staff, I am contractually obligated to mention that the character in this shot is none other than Benthic, a member of Enfys Nest’s group in Solo: Apparently, both actors share a couple of scenes in the series, or at least that’s what Skarsgård said (he also said that most of his scenes are with Cassian), but I have to wonder what will Gerrera’s role in the series be. If I were a writer on the show, I would definitely push for having an entire episode dedicated to the different factions of the Rebel Alliance argue with one another, like an extended version of the roundtable scene we got in Rogue One. It will never happen, but if it did, it would probably be my favorite episode of the series. The character in that watchtower also doesn’t have the sense of urgency that the other character that sounds the alarm during the day has — the stormtrooper patrol from the scene above could be just to make sure nobody is on the streets after the sunset, which is why Cassian is hiding from them. I guess that in flashbacks he will have longer hair, and then shorter hair in the main timeline of the show. This someone could either be Luthen Rael, or it could be someone that Rael meets during the series and that points him to Cassian, as we learn in the trailer that it is indeed Luthen who signs him up for the Rebellion. In this new trailer, we see Skarsgård with two different hairstyles, which could hint at two different timelines. We also know that the crew spent a lot of time shooting in a gigantic set in Buckinghamshire, which looks like the village in this scene. Here’s my guess, based on what we’ve seen in the trailer and what we know from the show (keep in mind, this is pure speculation and it will probably be shut down in the first few minutes of the show, probably for a better storyline). The set also looks like the one where we first see Cassian in the Celebration teaser, but there, the lighting is different.
And more importantly, it's where we meet Adria Arjona: Notice that the lighting and aesthetics of all of these scenes match. The set also looks like the one ...

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Who are the Inquisitors in Star Wars and who is the Grand Inquisitor in the Kenobi cast? It’s also expected that the series will take in Jedha - where Saw Gerrera is based in Rogue One – which also appears to be shown in the trailer. Cassian Andor was first introduced to Star Wars fans in Rogue One as a Rebel Alliance spy who was memorably described as "the most passionate person who's going to give themselves to save the galaxy”.

“In Pitlochry, Scotland, we had to walk for hours up a mountain to set up one shot,” revealed Luna. “Huge effort. The Mandalorian’s use of large LED screens (commonly known as “The Volume”) to display planetary environments was a game-changer for the visual effects industry when the series debuted in 2019. But according to series star Diego Luna, the practical method wasn’t without its drawbacks.
Star Wars fans have known for a while now that actor Stellan Skarsgard would be playing a major role in Andor. As marketing ramped up for Andor in recent ...
They might even be wary of other each other and only learn of their true motives and team up later in the season. There is also the possibility that even though they are both working towards a Rebel Alliance, they never actively work together or trust each other. With Cassian and Mon Mothma having parallel storylines and being separate for most of the season, it seems that Luthen Rael will be the connective tissue between their stories. This could mean that Luthen Rael has felt like he’s been hiding behind his comfortable life on Coruscant and that while that façade may be slipping away, it is okay as he is embracing his true self. Much like Mon Mothma, he appears to be playing a double life. This trailer shows him in these environments as he not only recruits Cassian, but also Saw Gerrera and his Partisans.

Since Andor is a prequel to that, and has so much more going for it as well, this new series might be the best show set in a galaxy far, far away yet. This was extreme to say the least, as not even The Mandalorian was this reliant on the new technology. The Mandalorian was careful not to push the limits of the technology too far, but Obi-Wan Kenobi fell into this trap, which ultimately resulted in some bland, or even bizarre, sequences and episodes. In A New Hope, the Rebels who stole the Death Star plans were never named or mentioned much at all outside of the opening crawl, meaning that it would be hard to believe that Leia, Luke, Han, and the rest of the Rebels didn’t mention an Imperial spy or anything along those lines. Put all this together, and Andor already has more going for it than other shows set in a galaxy far, far away. In recent years, the Star Wars franchise has been dominated by an abundance of Mandalorians with helmets (Din Djarin is a prime example) and surprise appearances by well-known Jedi (such as Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano). In a lot of ways, especially when it comes to Jedi, it is normal for the series to focus on these sorts of aspects of a galaxy far, far away.
In a little over a month, Disney+ is going to release its latest live-action Star Wars adventure, Andor. The highly anticipated series is set to take place ...
The Inverse Analysis — Andor’s latest trailer suggests that it’s going to bring back the gritty visual style that Rogue One established. However, while it remains to be seen just how well Andor actually manages to recapture Rogue One’s scope, the trailer suggests that it’s at least going to make the attempt. However, the prequel remains one of the most visually interesting Star Wars movies to date.
Tony Gilroy and Diego Luna have revealed that Andor is the first Star Wars series not to use The Volume, stating that all sets are practical.
Surprisingly, Andor is the first Star Wars series to not use The Volume (also known as StageCraft), opting for practical sets on location instead. In a new feature for Empire, Tony Gilroy speaks about how the series eschewed The Volume in favor of practical sets for Andor, chuckling “Yep, we’re old school. In Pitlochry, Scotland, we had to walk for hours up a mountain to set up one shot.
