Juninho Bacuna goes over for a big hug from Josh Koroma and Duane Holmes as the Birmingham players head back to the tunnel after their warm-ups. Bacuna gets in behind Ruffels up the right, forcing Lees to go out and challenge. Headed behind for a corner on the right - Thomas to take. 4-4-2 off the ball with Anjorin joining Ward in the press. Birmingham come again with Placheta crossing from the left but REG heads it away. He will take the free kick. The hosts keep looking to create two-on-ones against Ruffels, and do so again here. Looked like frustration from the winger. Birmingham are unlikely to make things easy for them, though. Birmingham get in at the corner of the box and Placheta shoots between Turton's legs to try and find the bottom corner, but Nicholls just about holds it up on the line. Bacuna to take. The left-back sticks out a foot to deflect it out for a corner.

Huddersfield Town head to St Andrew's tonight to take on Birmingham City, as the two Championship rivals eye their first victory of the 2022/23 campaign.

However, Eustace’s first port of call is going to be making Blues hard to beat. Birmingham were tough to beat and soaked up Luton’s moments of dominance well. There’s always a thirst to get that first win on the board early on in the season and that’s going to be the aim of both tonight.

Luton have the potential to score a lot of goals this term. Wigan only signed one player this summer, and remain one of the early favorites to go straight from the Championship to League One. However, they looked like a real threat in their goalless draw with Preston and put 20 shots on target, five of which were on target. Burnley became the toast of England with a win over Luton in their Premier League opener. Norwich’s manager Dean Smith bemoaned his team’s lack of quality in the final third following the opening defeat to Cardiff, which was a feisty affair, with both teams getting dismissed late in the match. Huddersfield are still looking for their identity and will have to accept that they won’t be able to rely on a wildcard manager for too long, although I’m going for a draw. They didn’t seem to know what they wanted to do in the match and could not muster any exciting moments.

More pressure from Blues saw them go 2-0 up in the 45th minute. A proposed £36.5million takeover of the Blues by Maxi Lopez and Paul Richardson has stalled over doubts whether the businessmen have the funds to buy the near 22 per cent stake of Vong Pech in a two-year plan to seize overall control.

Report: Blues 2-1 Huddersfield Town | Birmingham City Football Club (Birmingham City Football Club)

A Jon Russell free kick was halted by a well-constructed wall and both Trusty and Dion Sanderson intervened with important challenges in the danger zone before Marc Roberts put his head in where it hurts. This could, however, have been more pain-free had Bacuna capped off a staggering solo run with the finish it deserved. This meant there was just enough time for the advantage to be doubled ahead of the interval. A momentum shift occurred and, as a result, Birmingham needed to stand up and be counted. That chance suggested a general change in the direction of play, only for Eustace's team to have other ideas. The same, albeit to a lesser degree, could be said about Auston Trusty's long-range shot moments later that zipped past the post.
