Could Emma Raducanu be allergic to her racket? (Telegraph.co.uk)

Not for the first time in her career, Emma Raducanu was hampered by blisters in her match with Camila Osorio this week.

It’s basically a burn and they can be really difficult to solve, because tennis is her job, and it can be really difficult to manage.” Since her Flushing Meadows success, Raducanu is understood to have used different models of the Wilson Blade racket. The short answer is yes, although it will not be straightforward. The fact that Emma’s are related to one area recurrently – her racket hand – means it will be related to trauma, friction and heat. Both required medical timeouts late on and the trainer could be seen taping up Raducau’s sore hand, which played a part in the 51 unforced errors she committed en route to closing out the match. It is not unusual for top-level tennis players to suffer from blisters.

Emma Raducanu vs Liudmila Samsonova live: score and latest ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

It's coming up to 1am local time and ridiculous o'clock in the UK so kudos for staying up.

Raducanu thunders a rangefinder backhand down the line but a floaty second serve on the next point allows Samsonova to step in and hit a cross-court forehand winner. 40-15 for the Briton. Samsonova puts the squeeze on her second serve and the Briton plunges a backhand into the net. But controlled, aggressive hitting from Raducanu outlasts her opponent from the baseline and more errors from Samsonova gift Raducanu another break point. She scoops out a smooth backhand down the line for a winner and then a punchy forehand brings up another break point. Absolute silence on the court and Raducanu is down a set and a break. Then Raducanu sends a backhand well wide, into the tramlines, and the Russian breaks. Raducanu finds depth from the baseline and Samsonova can only fire a low ball into the net. Raducanu bravely tries to cover the court but Samsonova steps inside and whacks a forehand into the corner. Raducanu unleashes a monster forehand return into the corner on the first point to set the tone for this game. Samsonova brings up another break point but skids at the back of the court and knocks her forehand into the net. The Russian floats down a fairly regulation second serve and Raducanu swings at it abjectly, sending it halfway up the net. She cuffs a sort of clumsy, blow-the-knee, cover drive into the bottom of the net, a very tired shot, and then barely chases as Samsonova forces her out wide on the next point.
