Szmodics, Diaz and Travis strikes earn Blackburn emphatic win at ... (WalesOnline)

Swansea City suffered a miserable defeat in their first home match of the 2022/23 Championship campaign as they were beaten 3-0 by Blackburn Rovers.

Paterson replaced Fulton just seven minutes into the second-half as Swansea looked to ask more questions of the Blackburn defence. Paterson sold his marker before having a shot cleared off the line by Tayo Edun as fans appeared resigned to their fate on what was an incredibly frustrating afternoon. But just as Swansea threatened to level proceedings, they were hit with a sucker punch. Blackburn were only too happy to remain compact after going 2-0 up, and Swansea found it difficult to play their way through Jon Dahl Tomasson's side. Swansea saw plenty of the ball early on while Blackburn also looked to retain possession when possible. Martin's men got a good grip on the contest and started to get into more promising positions as a result, with Kyle Naughton firing wide from 30 yards out. And a mistake from Hay Fulton was emphatically punished six minutes before the break. The Scot lost possession just inside his own half which allowed Ryan Hedges to charge down on goal. - Get the latest Swansea City news and stories into your inbox every day for FREE! - Your chance to win the new 2022/2023 Swansea City home shirt - Get the latest Swansea City news and stories into your inbox every day for FREE! Russell Martin's men enjoyed plenty of possession but desperately lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

Sam Szmodics nets on debut in resounding Blackburn Rovers win (Lancashire Telegraph)

Sam Szmodics scored on his debut as Rovers put in the perfect away display to beat Swansea City 3-0.

Jamie Paterson cut inside Brittain before hitting an effort goalwards that the covering Edun hooked away. Just as that pressure was building however, Rovers doubled their lead. For the first time there was a sense that there was a threat to Rovers from the hosts. Rovers then made the change they had been preparing as Tayo Edun was sent on for Szmodics, with Pickering moving into a central defensive role as the visitors switched to a back three. Joel Latibeaudiere crept in at the far post to collect a left wing cross, but good defending from Harry Pickering stopped him from turning in the equaliser, as Rovers continued to play on the back foot. They were shielding the goal of Kaminski well however with the home fans beginning to get frustrated by their side as for all their possession they were struggling for a way through.
