The Sky Blues suffered a miserable night in the Carabao Cup at the hands of Championship rivals Bristol City, losing 4-1.
Put a lovely ball into the box which Tavares slid in on but just missed in City’s best move of a dismal opening half. Raced about but found it difficult to get into the game in the first half when Bristol knocked the ball about well. Continued to be lively in the second half but the ball just didn't fall for him. Came to life after the break when he scored with a lovely first time volley from a Bidwell cross. Was robbed in possession by Conway, who arguably fouled him, with the striker scoring Bristol’s third and his second of the night with a low shot that took a wicked deflection. Handed his full debut, the Man City loan man started on the front foot, anticipating danger and attacking the ball but was one of a number of players culpable for being too static when defending Bristol’s 12th minute corner.
A Tommy Conway double, Kal Naismith's first Robins goal and Andi Weimann's third of the season helped City progress to Round Two of the Carabao Cup.

The Robins have booked their spot in the second round after a ruthless first-half performance proved too much for Coventry.
Teamed up well with Kane Wilson in the first half. Assisted Conway's goal with a pass through the defence. Disciplined in midfield, sitting deeper to shield the defence. Got a number of crosses away on the byline but was happy to sit deeper when City had a commanding lead. A great challenge at the backpost that won City the initial corner which led to Naismiths' goal. Little to do in the first half but was called into action on 45 minutes, saving Fabio Tavares' strike low to his right.

The Sky Blues came out the blocks with a rejuvinated energy, testing the Robins' defence in-behind on several occassions. A subsequent fight back from the Sky Blues saw them close close on a few occasions, but it proved shy of overturning the deficit, seeing Mark Robins’ side depart from the competition. Wilson denied Conway a dream hat-trick before Pring’s follow-up was cancelled out by the offside flag. Robins made a triple sub on the hour mark which made instant dividends as the newly introduced Jake Bidwell fizzed in a cross which was slammed in by Allen to reduce the deficit. Tommy Conway has described his brace against Coventry City as a 'special moment' after he helped Bristol City progress in the Carabao Cup.
“We knew we hadn’t started quick this season, it was to get out there, show the fans we mean business tonight and we scored three goals in the first half. “Whoever comes into the team, we know what our roles are. It was just a change of personnel, it doesn’t matter who is playing, we know what our jobs are for the team, so it’s going on the pitch and implementing that when the game comes round.” I thought we coped well with the Coventry fans as they made it lively at times. The fans were excellent, they came even though the venue got changed. “The most important thing for the team was to win and to get through to the next round.
