Ipswich Town 0-1 Colchester United: Luke Hannant wins it (East Anglian Daily Times)

Ipswich Town's poor record in the League Cup continues after a frustrating loss to Colchester United at Portman Road.

Sadly, though, he blazed over the top of the bar instead of testing Hornby. Ipswich continued to have the bulk of the play after the U’s opener, with Vincent-Young heading over and then turning provider with a low cross which Humphreys again couldn’t convert, from a similar position to his earlier chance. Skipper Sone Aluko joined Tyreece John-Jules and Kayden Jackson in attack.

The U's claimed a 1-0 victory over their League One opponents at Portman Road to progress to the second round of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2019.

"The more the game went on, you could see the belief in every one of them to see the process through. "Thankfully, we put one in the back of the net and we showed some really good discipline in our performance and nullified them for large spells of the game. "We knew that people were going to tire, especially the younger lads making their debut and the occasion. "It's a massive, massive plus for the football club and the way that we want to go about our business. "Nights like this come along rarely so it's important that we enjoy them, we learn from them and we take the performance forward. He said: "It's important when you have nights like this that you enjoy them and the fans enjoy them.

Report | Ipswich Town 0-1 U's (Colchester United)

The U's booked their place in the Second Round of the Carabao Cup after a superb 1-0 victory at Ipswich Town.

But it was the U’s who bagged the opening goal of the game, with Luke Hannant on target for the first time in a Colchester United shirt. Frank Nouble deployed some trademark stepovers on the edge of the six-yard box, but his low drive was blocked before the ‘keeper could get a hand to it. Creating space down the right wing this time, it was Kyle Edwards who delivered a low cross for the arriving Humphreys, but the midfielder was unable to keep his effort down, rifling the ball high over the bar from twelve yards.

Some whilst they cowered to protect their young children. She said: “There were children crying and families leaving to escape. "A number of Colchester United fans had to receive treatment for the injuries they sustained from the broken chairs that rained down on them. "Sadly, we are having to hang our head in shame today thanks to a group of fans in the Colchester United end that have embarrassed our club with their mindless violent behaviour. "They also sunk to a new low that I have not witnessed in my time at the club, whereby they destroyed some of the seating in the area Ipswich had allocated to our fans and threw the broken parts into the rows below them that were occupied by other Colchester United fans. Ipswich children were crying too.
