Thankfully, this also seemed to align with the overall vision that co-showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill had for the show anyway, which means that ...
Did the Locke & Key showrunners have a change of heart during that time or were they just struggling to answer this question given possible issues around secrecy? Given how long that first journey from page to screen took, a Locke & Key movie does seem unlikely right now. According to Deadline, the success of Locke & Key's first season inspired Netflix to start planning both a second and third season immediately after. With that in mind, join us as we take a closer look at the cancellation and what the future could hold for Locke & Key on screen beyond that. The show has many stories left to tell, so I think that’s really a question for them." Locke & Key's transition from page to screen has been quite the journey.
Locke and Key concludes with its third season on Netflix, but the ending implies that more stories could be told in this fantasy universe in the future.
After helping Tyler pack his bags, Bode remarks to his siblings and mother that he hears "absolutely nothing", in reference to how the magical keys would whisper to him when they were near. He encourages them to send the keys back and close the portal, saying that the love of his family was far more important than any ability they could bestow. Returning home, Kinsey and Bode are "unlocked" with the Memory Key, meaning they will remember their magical youth even after they turn 18, before all of the enchanted tools are thrown into the portal one-by-one. The Lockes scramble to come up with a plan B, with Kinsey having the eureka moment that the Creation Key could be used to gain access to the magical chest holding the Alpha Key (how they didn't realise this sooner is beyond me). The season finale begins with our heroes in a dire position, as Tyler, Kinsey and Ellie are trapped inside the collapsing mind of dying man Gordie Shaw. They are desperately hoping to find the Creation Key before Gideon, who plans to use the collective power of all the artefacts to tear down the barrier between our world and the demons beyond. When Gideon finally arrives at Keyhouse in the dead of night, Tyler greets him at the Well House with a smirk on his face and the villain instantly senses trickery afoot.

First introduced as a mysterious woman living in the grounds of the Key House, Dodge became series one and two’s antagonist as her tireless mission to assemble all of the keys was unveiled. The character headed to England as series 2 wrapped up to take part in a film programme after his relationship with Kinsey develops and the group survives the wrath of Dodge. Frederick, a soldier fighting for the British Empire during the American Revolutionary War, was summoned by Eden to vanquish the Locke family and collect the keys and could be the next antagonist the family faces in series three. Duncan, the brother of Nina’s deceased husband and the Locke children’s father Rendell, is a fan favourite character in Locke and Key, and Aaron Ashmore is set to portray the character once more in series three. He also experiences the effects of the memory key during series two and joins his nephews and niece in facing off against Dodge, creating the demon key which leads to the villain’s downfall. The third installment of the fantasy horror series will be the last after Netflix bosses and the series creators confirmed it was coming to an end.
Episode 5 of Locke and Key Season 3 starts with Nina asking Bode how Dodge's body ended up under his bed. Bode throws some blatant lies about the Timeshift ...
Our characters do also finally realize that Bode is actually Dodge but not before Dodge has to spell it out and tell them. It’s clear that Gideon’s plan is going to cause a lot of chaos but could it also be reversed by the hourglass running out and time reversing? But then paradoxically, if Bode was never in this timeline possessed by Gideon then wouldn’t that mean everything up to this point would reverse and go back to that pivotal moment by the grandfather clock when Bode jumped back in time? Back in Locke House, Gideon gets his hands on every single key and prepares to open the portal. Deducing that this is similar to the Ghost Key, he finally understands that Bode is not himself anymore. Nina brings her concerns to Kinsey and Tyler, telling them that Bode is acting weird and there’s something off with him.
Dodge is back and she's possessed Bode, which leads to some good ol' fashioned body-swap humor with extremely high stakes. Meanwhile, Tyler and Carly work ...
And it feels like the pieces are in place for a final showdown now that Tyler is back and willing to remember the keys and the magic. The important thing is now Rufus knows and Dodge knows that Rufus knows. After a few scenes between Kinsey and Carly and Ellie and Rufus (she wants out of Matheson), Dodge gets to Kinsey in her pursuit of the keys. He tells Kinsey that he wants to be there for them, and that means knowing everything. She worked hard for that and didn’t get it until she was on her way back out the door. Introductions aside, Gideon suggests that Dodge could be useful in obtaining the keys from the Lockes — it turns out that even a possessed Locke can take the keys, which is a nice loophole for Dodge and Gideon. And Gideon’s plan is revealed when he squeezes the keys he has already and a portal starts to open in the ground. Bode pressures “Savini” Doug to give up the location of the keys they used to make their movies, but he has no idea. It feels likely that this is setup for a “Lockes United” final showdown, followed by the realization that families can be strong on their own without losing the power they have together. Gideon, who seems more and more destined to be relegated to a minor baddie instead of the big bad the start of the season promised (which is fine with LDO back), is in the woods with his buddies, making s’mores and planning the end of the world. For the sake of clarity, we’ll stick to using the name Dodge in this recap even when she’s in Bode’s form — the real Bode is a ghost in the cemetery, after all. Dodge marches to the graveyard and threatens to kill his whole family if he keeps it up. As that’s happening, Dodge is getting used to her new skin even as ghost Bode is trying to pass messages to the family via mom’s coffee mug.
There are four new keys introduced in the third season, the Animal Key, the Creation Key, the Snow Globe Key and the Timeshift Key. The Animal Key opens the ...
The Creation Key allows the user to bring any drawing to life. This list doesn’t include keys mentioned only in the comics. With the Lockes regularly finding new keys in Keyhouse, it’s easy to forget which ones they have already discovered and what each key does.
The Locke & Key season 3 cast is in more danger than ever. Let's meet the key players in the final season of the Netflix fantasy series.
She’s also very close to realizing her lifelong dream of publishing a novel. With the Memory Key she’s able to see what her kids have been dealing with. An avid TV and movie fan, her perennial favorites are The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, true crime documentaries on Netflix and anything from Passionflix. You’ve Got Mail, Ocean's Eleven and Signs are movies that she can watch all day long. Jones was nominated for a BAFTA award for Best Leading Actress for her work in the film. While this could lead to big adventures, it also comes with a lot of risk. Where else have you seenJackson Robert Scott? Jackson Robert Scott is a familiar face for horror movie fans. She’s always had her older brother watching over her, so the dynamic will shift when he leaves and she’s in charge of keeping younger brother Bode out of trouble. He’s the one who discovers the keys and their magic. As the youngest member of the Locke family, losing his dad was very hard for Bode Locke. It’s not surprising, then, that when the family moves to Keyhouse it’s a big adventure for Bode as he struggles to grieve and figure out his new life. Needless to say, anyone who knows about the keys is aware of their power and there are people (and demons) who will do anything to find them. As the only female among the Locke siblings, she’s always had a different way of looking at the experience in the Keyhouse. She used the Head Key to remove her fears; this helped her adjust to her new life at a new school, but it wasn’t without danger. As he approaches his 18th birthday, though, things are about to change.
Episode 6 of Locke and Key Season 3 sees the Locke's rush away from Locke house. Bode is still outside though... but there's a problem.
Ellie promises to tell the Captain exactly where the key is in exchange for him being let go. He manages to slip back in the chimney, returning to how he was. Rufus deduces they could use the Timeshift Key to go back in time and stop things but Ty is completely against this. Of course, they’re not at Locke house right now but likewise, Josh is oblivious to the keys and the magic. Kinsey and Tyler are picked up by Rufus, who all discuss the different keys and try to work out how to fix this. He senses that they still have one more key to collect, so Gideon tasks Bolton with heading off and questioning the historian (Josh) over the whereabouts of Nina.
Gideon and Dodge's evil partnership might not be as stable as we thought, which is good news for the Lockes even if Bode's body is still being possessed.
Dodge insists that she can stop Gideon with the Alpha Key. Has she proven she is on the side of the Lockes? Kinsey thinks so and hands Dodge the most powerful key in the box. Kinsey and Coffey fight first, and Bolton gets his hands on a key in another part of the house and gives it to his boss. In the final scenes, Uncle Dunc calls back to say that the hourglass is a fail-safe; anything brought back through the Timeshift Key that shouldn’t be there will go poof when the sand runs out. She won’t be willing to just disappear back into the history in which she was defeated, of course. As the fight intensifies, a winged Dodge/Bode comes in and grabs Coffey off the ground, flying to the wheelhouse and throwing him over it, causing him to burst into flames. Gideon is trying to merge the demon world and the human one. Could Dodge actually work with the Lockes to save the world? That sort of happens in “Siege,” but while the Lockes aren’t in a great place, there’s been a wrinkle in Gideon and Dodge’s evil plan for world domination. Instead, Dodge is a sort of demonic freelancer, someone who has tried to destroy the Lockes before but thinks Gideon is going too far in his pursuit of entire world domination. Dodge is bad at understanding kid strength.) While they all try to figure out what happens when the hourglass in the magic clock runs out, Dodge is trying to get her hands on the Mending Key to fix the Switch. Let’s go to the chest, Kinsey! She senses something isn’t right because Dodge is barely trying to be a real kid anymore and tries to buy some time. Even with Dodge back, this season lacks some of the suspense of the last two. He is reminded that Mom used it too and immediately thrust into a problem involving magic, keys, and a demon corpse under a bed.

• Who were the season MVPs? It seems like Jessup and Jones are the two performers most likely to use this as a springboard to bigger and better things. Rufus is finishing his story while his mom Ellie goes back to work at the school, which has dedicated a theater to Gordie. Tyler reconnects with Carly, whom he is going to return to, but not before they go on a road trip together. He breaks the arm with the muscles in his back and then uses the claw to destroy the well house. She stabs him with the Alpha Key, actually using a profanity like it’s the singular one the writer of a PG-13 movie has in their quiver: “No, you fucking die!” Gideon struggles, and his body turns in time for Nina to actually be the one to push him into the blue abyss. And so does Connor Jessup when he says, “The past is always with us.” In many ways, Locke & Key was a show about people forgetting that they carry loved ones always, even without the physical keys to do so. He wants to go back to see his dad again, and he has the Timeshift Key to do it. While Gideon is joyriding, Tyler and Kinsey make it home and explain the Creation Key to Mom and Bode. They come up with a plan to take down Gideon, who gets there to find Tyler in the well house. They laugh and tell Rendell about everything that happened in Matheson. It’s a really graceful, touching ending that almost recalls Field of Dreams in its “one more catch with Dad” aesthetic. But it landed in a comforting place, suggesting that these characters realize that they can’t play with magic forever and that the only key that matters is the one to their family home. A chase between him and the Lockes ends with Gideon flipping the automobile, which then bursts into flames like it has dynamite embedded in its seats. Gideon is trying to escape too, and the cops stare at the blinking curtain in front of them when the villain suddenly bursts forward. Meanwhile, Kinsey and Tyler draw a door into a bar and then draw a lock on that door they just came through.
The penultimate episode of the Netflix series goes inside Gordie's head (literally) as the Lockes search for the final key. A recap of season three, ...
A flashback reveals that young Ellie and her friends went into Gordie’s head to remove the memory about the Creation Key and hid it there. They have to take that chance and put the Head Key in the dying man while he’s bleeding out. There’s some pretty awful writing in a scene between Ellie and Gideon about how humans are also bad before things start to really go haywire in Gordie’s head. Kinsey, Tyler, Sam, and Rufus come upon Gordie’s body shortly after Ellie and Gideon have gone into the poor guy’s head. Gideon is riding with Ellie in her “horseless carriage.” He pulls a knife and orders her to speed up. “It would be great to feel like I’m not just a bit player in one of your stories,” says Gordie (and the word bit arguably could be considered a pun there). “One of these days, I’m gonna matter to you.” He’s right! In kind of a cruel writing choice, Gordie is still trying to get acting jobs today that elude him when Gideon and Ellie break into his house. He knocks her down, and the whole scene was kind of a waste of time. But young Gordie Shaw sees the creature that Rendell has created, and he’s not one of the Scoobs. They try to hide the truth from him, but the lizard-man they created literally bites him. The important thing is that Sam wants the opportunity to help Nina and her family, and right now they need as much help as they can get. In the end, it dispatches both Gordie and Sam in a way that’s actually kind of depressing when one looks back on the whole thing. It is almost time to lock up Keyhouse forever as the final season of Netflix’s Locke & Key races to an action-packed conclusion.
