Boss Steve Bruce is planning a raft of changes as Albion's EFL Cup campaign begins at home to Championship rivals Sheffield United tonight.
A player can play everyday if he wants, but he’s not going to play with the intensity that we’ve seen tonight. “It’s about 13 games in the first few weeks. “Unfortunately he (Zohore) pulled up a week ago, he’s picked up an injury too. He scored twice against Newcastle, which was delightful.” Young full-backs Zac Ashworth, Ethan Ingram and striker Reyes Cleary, who recently signed a first professional deal, may get a call, likewise fellow under-23 youngsters Mo Faal, Tom Fellows, Rico Richards and Jamie Andrews. Alex Palmer, who turned 26 yesterday, could start in goal.

Like so much of last season, Robinson drifted in and out of this game - yet he came to the fore and delivered when it mattered. Almost scored a goal of the season contender when he creamed a volley against the bar. Tired in the second half but this was promising. Much has been said recently of his future, but Mowatt did plenty of things right in the first half. Not a whole lot to do in the second half. Uses his body so well to shield the ball, and his close control is just so impressive. The forward sparked worry, though, as he was forced off with a knock before the end of the game. Didn't look out of place at all on the left. The breakthrough moment finally came - though it took for Bruce to call upon his front-line forward from the bench. Adam Reach might've done better too, when he found himself with only Foderingham to beat, but he too belted the ball off the Blades' keeper's torso. Rhian Brewster escaped the attention of both Dara O'Shea and Kyle Bartley and latched onto a through ball before slamming it onto the base of Alex Palmer's near post. That was a warning sign, and Albion grew into it from there.
Substitute Karlan Grant headed West Brom into the Carabao Cup second round as they edged Sheffield United 1-0 at The Hawthorns.
He said: “Akin is going to be out for some considerable time, which we’re all gutted for him about. We wanted the fans to see him and what he’s about, but we do think he’s going to be out for some time. The Terrors’ thrashing was the joint-heaviest European defeat for a Scottish side, equalling the 7-0 losses suffered by Hibernian against Malmo and Celtic to Barcelona. “I was really impressed with him at MK Dons, I really feel for him, it’s an impact muscle injury and we all want to see him back as soon as possible.” “We started well but we didn’t take our chances when we had them and West Brom did when they had them at the end.” Reflecting on the defeat, Heckingbottom said: “I was disappointed because I thought the game was there for us.

Robinson retrieved a lost ball and crossed straight at substitute Grant to head home with what may well have been his first touch. Reach nearly nodded Albion in front midway through the second half, Foderingham again proving to be his nemesis, before Bruce’s men finally did take the lead on 72 minutes. The hosts continued to create the better opportunities following the break, Callum Robinson – making his first competitive appearance this season - forcing Foderingham into a decent stop from the edge of the box.
