PSG's interest in Marcus Rashford shows Manchester United that ... (Eurosport.com)

Already struggling to attract players, another poor season might see Manchester United's established stars looking towards the exit door.

That runs from the minutiae of tactics to the overall environment of the club, from the transfer policy to the training ground, from the head to the heart to the hamstrings. And we've always suspected that it has the potential to backfire, if a move doesn't emerge. But according to theEvening Standard, the players have been told that Conte can only work with so many first-team players, and you four? wingback - so that they get the message and pass it onto their agents. Sure, Dundee United may be out of Europe, and the Scottish Premiership may look a little shabby next to the Eredivisie, and there may be some appalling headaches making their way back across the North Sea today. Still, at least he was well-rested for the more important part of the evening: the drowning of the sorrows. That tactical nap was sharper than anything United managed to put together on the pitch, as the Dutch - who had been favourites to go through even after the first leg - danced through the visitors' square, static defending. The club is a state of affairs that comes between players and their talent and prevents them from making the most of it. Over last season, the riddle of Rashford's form was the riddle of United. It's not just the fact that him playing badly meant fewer goals, which meant fewer points, which was overall a bad thing for the club as a whole. This is why the relentless focus on transfers at United sort of misses the point. Rather, it was the obvious emptiness about his game: no form, no confidence, no sense that he could see a way back to his best, or even his really quite respectable average. A kid from the academy, coming off consecutive 20-goal seasons, and at times he looked like he was trying to play in hiking boots.

Football transfer rumours: Marcus Rashford to Paris Saint-Germain? (The Guardian)

Lodi to Manchester City? | Aubameyang to stay at Barcelona? | Dennis to Nottingham Forest?

Of course, Frank Lampard won’t want to “Che” over the odds! They have offered Watford around £20m for Emmanuel Dennis, who produced a reasonable return of 10 goals in 33 appearances in the Premier League last season. Manchester City are still in the market for a left-back, however, with the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal leaving Pep Guardiola without the overwhelming strength in depth he has become accustomed to.

Man United should take the ruthless option with Marcus Rashford ... (Manchester Evening News)

Marcus Rashford is being linked with a move to Paris St-Germain, but it could also be an attempt to accelerate talks with Man Utd over a new contract.

It is still early in the season and Rashford may yet emerge as a big winner in the Ten Hag regime. I am in a good place right now – looking forward to getting more games under my belt and getting ready for the season." But at the moment, United should simply take the option in Rashford's contract, tying him down until 2024, rather than opening talks on a longer extension. It's an approach regularly used by players and follows on from stories that Rashford was considering his future at the club in March. United were a soft touch on contract extensions and that's a reputation they will want to shred. In fact, his form has fallen off a cliff.

United are determined to hold onto Rashford with ten Hag also eager for the club to bring in a versatile winger and a back-up striker before the transfer window closes. The French champions have been in contact with Rashford’s representatives in recent days to discuss a potential move to Parc de Princes.

Man Utd must make Rashford transfer call for the good of the team ... (Manchester Evening News)

Paris-Saint Germain are reportedly interested in signing Marcus Rashford from Man United.

Their shopping list is already hefty with less than three weeks remaining and adding more to it would be akin to a janitor throwing his own rubbish on the floor. But PSG is not the place to do it. An upgrade could possibly be made at some point, but there's no way United will be able to do so this summer. But even if PSG came in with a massive offer to try and tempt United, they would still be beyond foolish to accept. There is little doubt United will activate it on Rashford's deal so he is effectively contracted until 2024 and the club is in a much stronger position than portrayed as a result. As we creep closer to the September 1 deadline it will be fascinating to see which other ageing or unfulfilled strikers they will be linked with.
