Nottingham Forest vs West Ham LIVE SCORE: Awoniyi taps in ... (The Sun)

TAIWO AWONIYI has sent the City Ground into raptures after giving the home side the lead.Nottingham Forest thought they were behind just moments earli.

Lewis O’Brien jinked into the box, Lingard fluffed his attempt and Ben Johnson’s block bounced off Awoniyi’s knee and in. Cue the noise. The Hammers had their moments. Just a couple more would do for Moyes despite £30m striker Gianluca Scamacca and £17.5m winger Maxwel Cornet coming off the bench to no avail in the second half. In the space that was left in the programme, boss Cooper spoke of doing more than just making up the numbers after guiding them back to the Prem for the first time since 1999. And one of them ended the club’s 23-year wait to rewrite history as club-record signing Taiwo Awoniyi scored the club’s first goal back in the big-time at a sun-kissed City Ground.

Nottingham Forest v West Ham LIVE: Premier League result, final ... (The Independent)

Follow the action from the City Ground as Steve Cooper's Forest take on David Moyes' Hammers.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek brings it under control then lays it off to Reece James before Ryan Sessegnon hacks down the wingback to give Chelsea a free kick. James sends a couple of crosses into the box but the ball comes back to him each time. Spurs get the ball rolling again and Chelsea immediately push high. Koulibaly is waiting for the ball again but this time his volley is spooned well over the crossbar. However, they did have goalkeeper Dean Henderson to thank for keeping the three points as he saved Declan Rice’s second-half penalty. The City Ground had not hosted a top-flight match since 1999 and Taiwo Awoniyi ensured it was a winning homecoming for Forest with his first-half goal.

Player ratings, reaction to Forest win over West Ham – why Awoniyi ... (iNews)

Taiwo Awoniyi had the City Ground bouncing like it hasn't for 23 years as his scrambled first-half goal set Nottingham Forest on course to a well-deserved ...

but if you look at it, we had good numbers up the pitch, made a lot of passes to get there, and sometimes you get what you deserve.” “The fans were amazing today and got off their feet with the way we started the game. Awoniyi left Liverpool for Germany last summer after a six-year stint at the Merseyside club, where he was regularly fielded out on loan. “As a striker you just have to be ready for anything around the goal. But had no further luck against the Forest centre-halves. Gianluca Scamacca – Led the line with Antonio hauled off. Tomas Soucek – Had a couple of first-half chances but his usual solidity alongside Rice was sorely missing. Never really commanded the centre of the field as we’re used to seeing. Lukasz Fabianski – Blocked Williams’ close-range effort on 40 mins, and produced a great save off a Niakhate header. Taiwo Awoniyi – Matched up to Zouma and Johnson, the target man Forest needed to get the crowd going. Harry Toffolo – It was his positive attitude to get on the ball and charge into the box, setting up the game’s only goal. But played with poise for the majority of the game.

Nottingham Forest vs West Ham player ratings: Henderson brilliant ... (Nottinghamshire Live)

How we rated the Nottingham Forest players in their 1-0 win against West Ham United.

Forest felt they should have had a free-kick in midfield but when play went on, McKenna dived to block a shot which clearly hit his arm. Forest then took the lead in stoppage time when Harry Toffolo did well to find Jesse Lingard free in the box. There was another wild period of the game around the hour mark. It took 40 minutes for Forest to really test Fabianski in the Hammers goal as Williams slid in to meet Brennan Johnson's flick at the far post. O'Brien also had a tremendous in midfield both on and off the ball. Lingard fluffed his chance with the shot hitting a defender.

On the hour mark, West Ham winger Benrahma hit the woodwork from distance before Soucek's shot was blocked by the slightly extended arm of Forest defender Scott McKenna, resulting in a penalty for the visitors after a VAR replay. Awoniyi scored Forest's first Premier League goal in 23 years in first-half stoppage time and it proved to be the difference as both teams had goals disallowed by VAR and West Ham captain Declan Rice had a second-half penalty saved. A first-half goal from Taiwo Awoniyi was enough to earn Nottingham Forest a 1-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday, their first victory of the new Premier League season as the City Ground hosted top-flight football for the first time since 1999.
