Benjamin Mendy: Women 'disposable' to 'predator' footballer, jury told (BBC News)

Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy is on trial accused of raping women at his "isolated mansion" home.

Mr Cray told the court how the defendants said in "broad terms" that all the women consented to sex willingly, with only a couple of allegations where there is a denial that anything sexual happened. The court heard how Mr Mendy's home, The Spinney, in Mottram St Andrew in rural Cheshire, was "part and parcel" of how he and Mr Matturie were able to abuse the women. Mr Cray said key features included the pair targeting "women who were so drunk almost to the extent that they had little or no memory of the incidents, or were asleep, or they were waking from sleep". Mr Cray said Mr Matturie was his friend and fixer, and he would "find young women and to create the situations where those young women could be raped and sexually assaulted". "The doors of restaurants and nightclubs were open to him, people wanted to be with him," Mr Cray said. He said the women were "disposable" to Mr Mendy.

Man City defender and alleged 'fixer' accused of 'callous indifference' to 13 young women they allegedly attacked.

Two of the women said Mendy raped them in rooms they believed to be locked. The point is that you have to know how to open them from the inside, and you’ll perhaps see how the witnesses might have gotten the impression … that they are locked in,” said Cray. Some of the women told police they had their phones taken off them on arrival. Two of the women told police they were “passed between” both men at Mendy’s multimillion-pound mansion, where he held pool parties. The pair are accused of showing “callous indifference” to the 13 young women they allegedly attacked. The alleged offences by Mendy are said to have taken place at his gated mansion in the hamlet of Mottram St Andrew, near Macclesfield, between October 2018 and 2021.

Jurors saw drone footage of Mendy’s pad, which backs on to woods and fields and is on a “rural road” with no street lighting. “The defendants weren’t in some happy state of sexual ignorance, they knew very well what they were doing. He added: “The acts show callous indifference to the women they went after. That was the effect of deliberate, planned, choices the defendants made and the desires they let loose many times.” “You can’t get in from the outside but you can open them from the inside if you know what to do. Prosecutor Timothy Cray QC told jurors two women claim they were taken to locked rooms at the footballer’s mansion, known as ‘The Spinney’ and raped.

The 28-year-old's trial for eight counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault began at Chester Crown Court on Monday.

“They turned the pursuit of women for sex into a game and if women got hurt or distressed, too bad.” “In their minds, and this could not be clearer, the stream of women they brought to their homes existed purely to be pursued for sex.” Mr Cray told jurors that Saha, of Eccles, Salford, was Mendy’s friend and fixer, and one of his jobs was “to find young women and to create the situations where those young women could be raped and sexually assaulted”. Jurors heard the footballer was “prepared to cross that line” of consent “over and over again” and if “women got hurt or distressed, too bad”. Mr Cray said the feelings of the alleged victims “counted for nothing”, adding: “These women were disposable, things to be used for sex, then thrown to one side. 'Central to the case is Mendy's home at the time. Judge Everett, who is Recorder of Chester, told the jury last week: 'Maybe you have heard their names. April, 2021 - Saha is alleged to have raped a girl, 17, at the same property. During the party Mendy took her to an office, where she believed the door was locked and he proceeded to rape her twice. That was the effect of their game. Opening the case Mr Cray QC had told the jury: 'The case is simple. The 17-year-old allegedly raped by both men had been invited to Mendy's house by Saha, where her phone was taken from her. Later she got a taxi back to Manchester, where he raped her again. As she bent over to pick it up Mendy got behind her and raped her three times. Mendy tried to rape her on a bed but she struggled and managed to stop him. The women were asked to hand over their mobile phones, to protect Mendy from social media intrusion, but the 24-year-old hid hers. She agreed, but was uneasy and asked her friend to 'come look for her' if she did not return in five to ten minutes.
