However, his sporting welcome back soon turned into boos from the home crowd. Bristol City defeated Luton Town 2-0 at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night to earn their first league win of the season. Following the disappointment of the Sunderland defeat in the Robins opening home league fixture, the crowd gave it their all to ensure a first home win of the season was soon to follow. He left City for Queens Park Rangers in 2017, but the home fans gave him a warm welcome back to the West Country – although their team was 2-0 up at the time, which might’ve played a part in his reception. Despite Naismith’s lack of affection from the away end, Freeman was gifted a much warmer welcome from the Robins faithful when he came on for Luton at the break. The Hatters had offered little up top at that stage in the match and given the 132-mile trip home on a Tuesday night, it’s perhaps understandable that the Luton faithful decided to head back to Bedfordshire early.

Bristol City vs Luton Town live: Updates from Ashton Gate (Bristol Live)

All the build-up, live match action and reaction as the Robins go in search of their first victory of the season.

It’s nice to have options and hopefully it will ask a few questions of our opponents today. City were just starting to move the ball around nicely and Alex Scott collects midway in Luton's half. Luton have two points on the board after draws against Birmingham City and Burnley but lost at home to Preston in their last outing. Weimann gets involved as does Massengo and there's a huge crowd of players then pushing and shoving... Han-Noah missed last week because of illness himself. Jones has obviously handed them a number of home truths at half-time. Two Luton players have gone into the book. Carlton Morris looks to be in a dead end with Vyner on his back but the striker does superbly to take it around him and beat him for pace on that right touchline. Conway engineers a yard of space for himself on the edge of the box and he pulls the trigger but the defender makes a good block. He strikes one on the edge of the box but it takes a deflection and heads out for a corner. There's a big melee as Sykes gets shoved to the ground. The referee has sent Sykes off!

Report | Bristol City 2-0 Luton Town (lutontown.co.uk)

The Hatters suffered a second successive league defeat at Bristol City as first-half goals from Nahki Wells and Tommy Conway gave the hosts all three points ...

Freeman and Bradley were both shown yellow, along with Weimann. Jones resisted the option to make a double change before the break, despite Clark and Freeman being readied, and instead waited until the interval to bring on three; the midfield duo on in place of Potts and Woodrow, with Admiral Muskwe coming on for Reece Burke. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 27th minute when Andi Weimann raced onto a Han-Noah Massengo pass down the left and crossed low for Conway to slam the ball in from close range.

First, he almost dispossessed Horvath before then testing the 'keeper with a driven left-footed effort. Posted: Wednesday, August 17th 2022

Reaction | Nathan Jones on Bristol City defeat (lutontown.co.uk)

Manager Nathan Jones said the performance against Bristol City was 'unacceptable' as his side slipped to a second league defeat in a row.

“They had more energy than us, they won 50/50s, everything about it wasn’t what we normally do and that is the worrying thing. The way we defended, the way we wanted to take shortcuts and not do the basics well cost us the game. Maybe Birmingham at home but we were second best all over and that’s something that doesn’t happen to us very often.
