Captain Browne swivelled to shoot in the box, but his effort was brilliantly tipped over by Bachmann. Watford's Rob Edwards: "It was a hard-earned point that could have been three. His finish was wasteful as he fired high into the stand with his left foot to the frustration of the travelling supporters behind the goal. But the away side had the best chance of the game on the hour mark when Manaj was sent through one-on-one with Woodman. The home side had the better of the first half, with Alan Browne and Ryan Ledson forcing saves from Daniel Bachmann. Report and highlights from the Sky Bet Championship clash between Preston North End and Watford at Deepdale as Ryan Lowe's Lilywhites played out a fourth goalless draw in five games, as both sides stayed unbeaten.

A cross drops to Whiteman on the edge of the box but his shot is charged down by Choudhury. Sierralta is then penalised for a strong challenge on Parrott, in the centre of the pitch. PNE are taking shots on when the opportunity opens up and Ledson is the latest to be denied by Bachmann. PNE had the better of it for the first half-an-hour but Watford ended the half the stronger. Lowe's men have had chances - the biggest falling to Browne early doors - and they need to get more support for Parrott up top. They look dangerous in and around the box and North End dropped to deep towards the final few minutes. North End sent plenty of crosses into the Watford box and Browne arrived to guide a Ryan Ledson cross on target, but Bachmann stood tall to deny him at full stretch. The midfielder plays it through to Parrott, who takes one touch and shoots but it's blocked behind. An inswinging Ledson cross is guided on target by the arriving skipper but Bachmann turns it away at full stretch! We’re creating plenty of chances, and again it wasn’t for the lack of trying. Watford's pace - in the absence of Hughes - is now causing real problems for PNE. The first half proved to be an end-to-end contest in which both sides enjoyed spells of possession and pressure.

Preston are back at Deepdale once again today, this time hosting recently-relegated Watford at Deepdale. Preston North End vs. Watford
They’ve got characters in there, resilience and all of those things you’d expect from a Championship team, but they’ve got a good way about them as well. “I think Rob will be looking to see the back of the transfer window because he’s got some quality players in there. It’s going to be a really tough game,” he added. In total, Bond has been in charge of 13 Preston games in his career, going back to the 1-1 home draw with Burton Albion in 2016. Remarkably, there are no players in the Preston squad to have played for Watford, and no Watford players who have turned out for North End! “They’re very well coached,” Edwards said. “I’m massively looking forward to it,” said Lowe. Darren Bond is the referee for today’s game, with the Lancashire official appointed to be the man in the middle. Bond also officiated three Preston games in the 2020-21 season; the 2-0 home defeat to Millwall, the 1-0 win at Derby County and the 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest. But these are the games you want to be in the Championship for, playing the likes of Watford, Burnley, Norwich – the teams that have been in the Premier League for a year or a couple of years, so we’re really looking forward to it and hopefully it’ll be an exciting game,” he added. Lowe is unsurprisingly in high spirits after a decent start to the season, with Preston yet to concede in four Championship outings. A couple of moments spring to mind in terms of Preston’s home games with Watford over the years.
Head coach Rob Edwards reflects on the 0-0 draw at Preston - missed chances, good goalkeeping and why Pedro and Sarr were missing.
“He didn’t feel comfortable, we had the calf scanned and there is a minor tear. “He’s fit but we need to make sure we get him right, and then he stays right. We have solidity at the back, and a willingness to defend and put bodies in the way. There is interest, we knew that would be the case and we’re not shying away from it. We have the desire to sprint back and chase, apart from one corner which sticks in my mind where we didn’t, and that disappointed me. He just loves playing the game, and that’s what I like about him the most. “We’re in the transfer window and they’re good players. We need to be quicker in our decision making in those areas. I’m under no illusions, it wasn’t a one-sided game but when it comes to chances we had some real good ‘uns. With two strikers on the pitch we need to be getting crosses in a little bit earlier. “I think possibly we should have won it,” he said. Bearing that in mind, I’m slightly frustrated not to be going home with three points.”
Watford Head Coach Rob Edwards was pleased to extend the Hornets' unbeaten run to five matches, after a goalless draw with Preston North End at Deepdale.
If you don’t win, you have to make sure you don’t lose, and that is five times we have done that now which is a good record. “A big thank you to the travelling support because they were incredible again. “We had to make a couple of changes - one yesterday and one this morning. We are going to have to make changes because we have 46 matches. Edwards continued: “We had to make a couple of changes and we were unlucky yesterday with João Pedro just feeling his calf from the Birmingham game. There will be injuries and suspensions, so you have to come together because we are all in it together as a group.”
