Wolves vs Preston North End live Carabao Cup updates from ... (Accrington Observer)

The Lilywhites head to the Midlands to face Bruno Lage's men at Molineux, with PNE drawn against Premier League opposition in round two of the competition. PNE ...

North End having to stay switched on and run the hard yards as Wolves dominate possession and push for a third. Hwang missed his penalty and the chance to make it three just before the whistle. Adama Traore plays a quick one-two with Semedo and lazers a thunderous left-footed volley into the top left corner. Great football from North End but you have to give credit to Wolves for getting across and defending the danger. North End had a real go in the second half and played with plenty of courage. They will have to tread carefully, given the threat Wolves possess in attack, but it's been much better from PNE so far in this half. Adama Traore played the ball into the box for Nelson Semedo, who popped the ball up for Traore to explode on to and rocket into the top left corner with a ferocious first-time volley. Browne into the middle and Potts to RWB. Captain Alan Browne was introduced by manager Ryan Lowe but it was Ben Woodburn who found himself in space 20 yards out, and fizzed a left-footed low drive into the bottom right corner of the net. PNE continued to compete but were dealt the a significant blow on the half-hour mark. Things could've gotten worse before the interval but Hee-chan Hwang saw his penalty kick saved by debutant Dai Cornell, after Matthew Olosunde had brought the Wolves forward down with a clumsy piece of defending. Wolves chief Bruno Lage had gone super strong with his team selection though and the quality started to show.

Wolves player ratings vs Preston: Adama Traore stunner seals win ... (Birmingham Live)

Wolverhampton Wanderers edged past Preston North End 2-1 to book their place in the draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Just before he scored, Traore put one on a plate for Jimenez with a pinpoint cross and the duo combined to great effect throughout. Jimenez’s all-round play was very good and he got the goal Lage would have been hoping for. His penalty was poor and, given Traore’s improved performance on the other flank, Hwang may find game time difficult to come by. Nunes was everywhere in the first half, twisting and turning his way through midfield. The right-back grabbed an assist for Traore’s goal with a nice little flick. Preston gave Wolves a scare immediately after the restart when Woodburn reduced the arrears. He showed his usual class and poise in possession and tenacity out of it. Hwang Hee-chan should have made it 3-0 to Wolves before half-time after he was brought down for a penalty. Max Kilman released Rayan Ait-Nouri down the left and the French full-back squared the ball for Jimenez to tap home from four yards. Goals from Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore handed the win to Wolves, but Ben Woodburn’s second half strike ensured it wasn’t a comfortable one. Wolves were two goals up before the half hour mark thanks to an early goal-of-the-season contender from Traore. Not everything Nunes tried came off, but he oozed class on his Molineux bow.

Carabao Cup: Wolves 2 Preston 1 - Report (expressandstar.com)

Wolves progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup after overcoming a second half scare against Preston.

Despite having such a dominant first half, it took only three minutes for Preston to get a goal back in the second half. It was all very comfortable for Wolves after 25 minutes as Preston offered very little threat and the hosts retained possession with ease. However, the South Korean scuffed his effort and it was an easy save for Cornell. Wolves were dominating possession in the early stages as Preston sat back in their defensive shape, and it took just eight minutes for the hosts to take the lead. Max Kilman, who was captain for the evening, played a delightful pass to release Ait-Nouri down the left flank. The hosts dominated proceedings in the first half with a comfortable display.
