Another major question that has to be asked is if he will even be a guaranteed starter for the Blues. Thomas Tuchel is being backed in the summer market by Todd Boehly and the new owners. Secondly, he is just 21 and also a home-grown player, and finally, he has three years left on his current deal. £50 million of that would be payed initially with a further £10 million in additional add-ons - it is a mind-boggling decision. Everton sent 'desirable but not essential' transfer message over ... (Liverpool Echo)

Chelsea are ready to test Everton's resolve with a fresh bid for winger Anthony Gordon.

They will have enough funds from the sale to make more headway and expand their options but there is risk attached to it. "They could do with a decent sale in the 22/23 accounts and Gordon is the perfect deal. It would be hard for the club to turn down such a fee for a player just one year into a Premier League career who has looked promising but whose future potential isn't guaranteed. The issue they have with Chelsea's return and a potential £60m fee is that they would be allowed to add in key areas that could aid their Premier League survival to a greater extent, the most pressing need being a striker. Once they shake hands on a sale the clock starts ticking on them getting their own business done. Everton are compliant with the Premier League's P&S rules and are on the track back to a healthier financial situation, although one that will take some time still. The Richarlison sale helped a lot, as did getting some of the deadwood off the wage bill when contracts expired in June. That frees up space to sign a striker for a decent fee, which will come with relatively high wages too. In keeping Gordon, who netted four goals last season, they have limited scope to add a striker while continuing to make P&S headway. Losing Richarlison was a blow, albeit one that was expected and, in reality, a necessity from a financial point of view. Last season they flirted with relegation, something that would have been hugely damaging for the football club's financial outlook. Pressed on whether the Blues need the issue resolved quickly, Lampard added: “Yes, ideally or we carry on and he’s our player, it is what it is.”

Is Chelsea target Anthony Gordon worth £60m and how would he fit ... (Daily Mail)

Todd Boehly has been happy to spend big money in his first transfer window as Chelsea · Chelsea have now set their sights on signing Everton winger Anthony ...

'#CFC signing Anthony Gordon from Everton for £60m whilst Callum Hudson-Odoi grows restless on the bench is bizarre from Chelsea. It seems unlikely at this stage of his career, despite the trio all having somewhat uninspiring starts to the season. The Blues are hardly short of wingers. It seems that fans are far from convinced that Chelsea signing Gordon is a good idea, and the England Under-21 international may have his work cut out to prove people wrong if he does join Tuchel's men in the final days of the transfer window. A number of supporters have claimed that Hudson-Odoi, who is the same age as Gordon, is a better prospect, and Chelsea should be looking to keep him rather than loaning him out to bring in a new player. This could leave Gordon on the fringes of the squad, and that is a difficult place to be, particularly at Chelsea. Is he really worth that amount of money? Hudson-Odoi has failed to build on his early promise and is now on the brink of leaving, while the likes of Pulisic and Ziyech have also seen their careers stagnate as they have been unable to cement their place in the starting XI. If Tuchel does see him as a potential wing-back, it is also hard to see Gordon getting into the team ahead of James, who is tried and tested in that position, and is now an established international. It appears that the spine of the team needs addressing, but Chelsea are in danger of becoming preoccupied with the fringes of the side and overlooking the positions that really need strengthening. In attack, they have looked a little disjointed, and are clearly missing someone who can regularly put the ball in the back of the net. Gordon has gone through the middle to cover for Calvert-Lewin, but does not look to be a natural finisher, and has rarely looked like scoring this term.

And to find out whether Chelsea are now spending in accordance with a strategy, or whether the strategy is simply to spend. And now Chelsea would pay a transfer fee of around £15m to a club that desperately needs to raise funds? At the same time, Chelsea are preparing to loan out a promising 21-year-old (Callum Hudson-Odoi) who looked dangerous as an attacking winger after breaking into the team. Aubameyang left the Premier League because Arsenal were effectively so convinced by his lack of use that they were reportedly prepared to pay a lump sum to end his contract and allow him to leave for free. More pertinently, has Boehly abandoned his initial principles in favour of short-termism and the desperate desire to appease Tuchel? [Fikayo Tomori](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-fikayo-tomori-ac-milan-serie-a-title-1641999?ico=in-line_link) was sold for less than 30 per cent of the reported Fofana asking price. They invested significant money on 31-year-old Kalidou Koulibaly who would have little resale value, but he was merely replacing the outgoing Antonio Rudiger due to a contract impasse that the new owner inherited. [Todd Boehly](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-predictions-transfer-window-chaos-todd-boehly-1781278?ico=in-line_link) suggested that he may be different: more public-facing, less soft power grab, more Americanised smarts and less blank cheque books. Perhaps – and this is more likely – he saw the improvement under Claudio Ranieri after a wild transfer spend and realised that the league title would be a doddle if Chelsea simply refined everything a little and got the right manager. The summer of 2003 at Chelsea was about limitless opportunity and seemingly limitless money.

Anthony Gordon to Chelsea: Everton ace hands in transfer request ... (NationalWorld)

Get all of the latest Football news from NationalWorld. Providing fresh perspective online for news across the UK.

Despite failing to claim any goal contributions during his time with the Lilywhites, Gordon was quickly handed the opportunity to battle for a spot in the first team starting line-up and went onto score his first and second goal for the club in a 3-2 defeat to Brighton in January. While Everton were eager to keep hold of Gordon following the departure of Richarlison earlier this summer, they now look to have set their price tag after he handed in a transfer request. After making 11 appearances for the Toffees in his debut season in the top flight, Gordon was sent out on loan to Preston North End. After having rejected the Blues’ two bids so far, Everton may now have to allow their academy product to leave after it was confirmed yesterday that the forward has handed in a transfer request. While previously attracting the interest of a number of Premier League sides, it is Chelsea that look set to lure Gordon away from his boyhood club. Last season was bittersweet for Anthony Gordon as he enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Everton, despite the Toffees spending much of it in a relegation battle.

It seemed clear from the start that Fleetwood had earmarked the Blues’ £33.5million signing for rough treatment and Ged Garner, Danny Andrew and Drew Baker were all booked for hacking him down and at times, seemingly riving in agony. Born just down the road in Blackpool, Crellin made 13 senior appearances for Fleetwood Town – five of which were in League One – with loan spells at FC United of Manchester, Chorley and Bolton Wanderers before joining Everton for an undisclosed fee on January 31 this year, the same day that Lampard was appointed Blues boss.
