Emil Blonsky, also known as The Abomination, was played by Tim Roth in 2008's 'The Incredible Hulk.' After a cameo in 'Shang-Chi,' he is back for 'She-Hulk.

But while he was in there, the Marvel One-Shot film called The Consultant revealed that the World Security Council was advocating for his release—for the purpose of joining the Avenger initiative. Yes, he acted violently, they argued, but it was all in self-defense against The Hulk, whom he'd been informed was a major threat to national security (this eventually becomes Blonsky's main case for parole in She-Hulk; we'll see if he's really changed his unhinged ways). Evan is the culture editor for Men’s Health, with bylines in The New York Times, MTV News, Brooklyn Magazine, and VICE. Only the highest of SHIELD agents—like Phil Coulson—were aware that he was there. In The Incredible Hulk, we meet up to him when he's loaned to United States Special Operations Command on behalf of Thaddeus Ross (William Hurt) who plans for him to lead a strike team to take out The Hulk. He transforms for the movie's climax into a Hulk-ish creature that we call The Abomination. And now that Roth is returning to the Blonsky role for [She-Hulk: Attorney At Law](https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a40921142/she-hulk-how-many-episodes-release-schedule/), appearing alongside Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, it feels like a good time to remind everyone how he ended up in that high-security prison cell. Here's a quick history of our friend Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), who would eventually become the villain known as The Abomination. He keeps up with Hulk for most of the movie, but things get really out of hand when, after later injuries at Hulk's hands that normal people would never recover from, he gets an even greater dose of the serum, and then storms into the lab of Dr. That's how long ago it was when we last saw the character of Emil Blonsky, also known as The Abomination, in a substantial role within the MCU. She-Hulk: The Abomination in the MCU, explained (Dexerto)

Who is the Abomination in the MCU? Marvel has brought back one of its oldest villains for She-Hulk, how did he become the Abomination?

Initially, he had the upper hand, seemingly possessing greater strength, but the Hulk improvised with weapons (he used cars as boxing gloves and a massive chain) and emerged victorious. Blonsky was able to confront the Hulk in a one-on-one fight and live to tell the tale, recovering from grave injuries in less than a day. Who is the Abomination in the MCU? He soon became addicted to the power, taking larger doses of the serum and later demanding a transfusion of Gamma-irradiated blood, transforming him into the Abomination. Prior to his monstrous transformation, the Russian-born, British-raised soldier served as a special-ops commander in the Royal Marines. The MCU’s villains kicked off with Iron Man’s Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges), also known as Iron Monger.

Episode 2 of 'She-Hulk' sees Emil Blonsky back behind bars, acting like we're supposed to know who he is.

If he's in government custody once again by the end of the series, that also presents a window for him to appear in the supervillain-only team, In the meantime, Hulk joined the Avengers, was forced to fight in a coliseum on the planet Sakaar for the amusement of The Grandmaster, and even helped take down Thanos. She's set to have the same job in the She-Hulk series, tasked with defending Blonsky—a villain held in some kind of supermax prison. Marvel Just Teased Emil Blonsky's Villain Twist In She-Hulk Episode 2 (The Direct)

She-Hulk has made a major change from how Abomination was portrayed in 2008's The Incredible Hulk.

Or maybe this is all a ruse that will force She-Hulk to take on Abomination by the end of the season. With that in mind, Walters will clearly find a way to ensure his release from prison that leads to him continuing his transformative journey in the free world. That question will undoubtedly be answered next week as Wong presumably enters the picture, but the sorcerer putting his trust in Blonsky may indicate his story to be at least partially legitimate and not a fully concocted narrative. The reporter described Abomination as having broken out of prison, and yet Shang-Chi already confirmed Wong was the one to have freed him from his cell. Blonsky points out that not only was he following orders and had his actions impacted by the super-soldier serum, but he also believed he was taking out a threat: [Abomination took on Wong in the ring of an underground fight club](https://thedirect.com/article/shang-chi-wong-abomination-fight-deleted-scenes).

The Abomination's She-Hulk cameo is a classic MCU Easter egg (Polygon)

This week's second episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law calls back to Tim Roth's role as the Abomination in The Incredible Hulk, a movie most people forget ...

In episode 2 we find out that Blonsky is up for parole — and who better than his fellow gamma-impaired person and cousin of his enemy who is also a lawyer to make the case for his rehabilitation? In She-Hulk’s first episode, her cousin Bruce ominously warns her, “When people start seeing you as a monster, that never goes away.” It looks like Tim Roth’s Abomination is about to put that claim to the test. It’s a take that brings an interesting angle to Blonsky’s origin, even as it preserves the basic elements of the comics (violent weirdo sees Hulk, decides he’ll have what he’s having). Its the long-awaited return of the Abomination, [last spotted](https://www.polygon.com/22654271/shang-chi-wong-fight-abomination-easter-egg) in 2021’s [Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings](https://www.polygon.com/reviews/22633102/shang-chi-review). [Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings](https://www.polygon.com/22654271/shang-chi-wong-fight-abomination-easter-egg), where the Abomination pops up in an (apparently friendly) fight club match against [Dr. That humbling experience is what prompts Blonsky to volunteer for an experiment to re-create the Hulk, with predictably gruesome and chaotic results. Under David’s pen, the Abomination became not only a physical reflection of Banner, but an emotional one, too; he was what the Hulk might have become, if he didn’t have the love and loyalty of people like his cousin, Jen, or his wife, Betty. It wasn’t until the storied run of writer Peter David beginning in the late ’80s that Blonsky’s character (and appearance) went through a series of surprising transformations. First, there was his physical mutation into an even more hideous gamma creature (courtesy of some inconveniently spilled nuclear waste, which is a hazard you’d think more people in the Marvel Universe would look out for at this point). [Disney Plus](https://www.polygon.com/23300486/disney-plus-subscription-ads-pricing)’ [She-Hulk: Attorney at Law](https://www.polygon.com/23309900/she-hulk-bruce-banner-tony-stark-science-bros-mcu) made a point of proving to viewers that the titular hero isn’t your old-school kind of Hulk. And, like, Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings and The Incredible Hulk. In that first appearance, Blonsky is depicted as Marvel’s favorite go-to Cold War cliche: a military infiltrator from deepest Russia who stumbles on a gamma machine built by Bruce Banner, and deliberately turns it on himself to acquire strength, rage, and a green-hued and muscled-up appearance equal to the Hulk himself.

She-Hulk: Why Wong Breaks Abomination Out of Prison (The Direct)

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is now two episodes into its run on Disney+, with some major implications having been set up by the end of its second episode.

How this ties back to what's happening in She-Hulk is anybody's guess, although the titular hero will likely learn about that from Wong as the audience does. But it could also be an indication that he's gaining more control over that side of his persona, similar to how Bruce Banner fully transformed into Smart Hulk, with the Mystic Arts of Kamar-Taj aiding him in that journey. This could even be enabled by somebody like Holden Holliway of GLK & H, who seemed completely unphased by the fact that Jen brought up Blonsky's violent incident in Harlem with Bruce Banner. While it's unknown how Wong and Blonksy's relationship started, this could be a reason that Wong allows the supervillain to engage in this kind of activity. After all, the last of those groups just went after a teenager in Kamala Khan upon learning about her superpowers, engaging in an all-out battle with her Considering that Blonsky didn't bring up the fight club at all in his chats with Jennifer Walters, there's a good chance he's keeping that side of his life a secret in order to look more favorable to his upcoming jury. This leads to the question of why they're even together in the first place, and Once Bruce learned about Wong's abilities and his place as the Sorcerer Supreme, he may have come to the magician in hopes of pushing Emil Blonsky further down a redemptive path. Could he have possibly discovered some mysterious spell or artifact that aids Blonsky in his evolution as the Abomination? This, of course, will lead to some hard-hitting questions for Jennifer Walters from her new coworkers and the public now that she's taken the responsibility of representing Emil Blonsky in his court case. This ended with Wong using his Sling Ring to make the Abomination knock himself out with a powerful punch. Much of that has to do with Tim Roth's Abomination and Benedict Wong's Wong, who were both confirmed for appearances in this series

Everything That Happened To Abomination After Incredible Hulk (Screen Rant)

Emil Blonsky has only made two MCU appearances since Phase 1, but Marvel has revealed a lot about what happened to Abomination after Incredible Hulk.

In any case, it appears Hulk and Abomination no longer view themselves as enemies after The Incredible Hulk thanks to this reunion. Abomination's parole chances not only set up where his story can continue in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, but it also signals ways for the MCU to continue using him afterward as long as he is freed from prison. Something that She-Hulk reveals happened to Abomination after The Incredible Hulk is an attempt to make amends with Bruce Banner. [different look that is more comics-accurate](https://screenrant.com/shang-chi-abomination-different-look-changes-incredible-hulk/), Abomination is shown participating in an underground fighting tournament. The combination of past teases and Phase 4's storylines have brought massive reveals and helped fill in what happened to Abomination after The Incredible Hulk. [Thunderbolts candidate](https://screenrant.com/mcu-marvel-thunderbolts-movie-cast-possible/)) and instead shifting his focus to being peaceful, Abomination took it upon himself to reach out to Hulk. After years of reflecting on his life and actions while in prison, Emil Blonsky had a change of heart. Once Abomination was out of the picture, SHIELD refocused its attention on getting Hulk to be one of the original Avengers. [She-Hulk: Attorney At Law](https://screenrant.com/tag/she-hulk/) comes over a decade after he debuted, but a lot still happened to Abomination after [The Incredible Hulk](https://screenrant.com/tag/the-incredible-hulk/). The combination of the organization's origin and SHIELD's collapse in 2014 after Captain America: The Winter Soldier likely means that Abomination's transfer happened around this point in time. Marvel decided to use the show as an opportunity to finally continue Abomination's story after The Incredible Hulk. Abomination was put in a cryo-cell in the secret Alaskan base known as the Vault, where SHIELD agents guarded him for extra protection.
