It was another difficult afternoon for Chelsea but the Blues pulled through thanks to goals from Ben Chilwell and Kai Havertz.
Unfortunately, his memorable moment saw him dispossessed as Maxwel Cornet almost won the game for West Ham. Jorginho - Had less than 10 minutes to make his mark. Changed the game and delivered the ball to Kai Havertz to net the winner. Christian Pulisic - It was the first start of the season for the American, and was perhaps Chelsea's most likely player to threaten the opposition goal in the opening half. Mateo Kovacic - The Croatian showed some good passing but did not take control of the tempo how he so often can. Generally shown as an option for the back three to play the ball in a solid outing. Ruben Loftus-Cheek - The midfielder made his fifth start in a row and opened the game with some strong challenges but picked up a yellow card after just nine minutes. Reece James - The wing-back was the player Chelsea primarily looked to when camped in the Hammers half but was often faced with stagnant targets. His passing was not as high quality as he displayed earlier in his Blues tenure. 6. Chelsea's stopper went down before Maxwell Cornet put the ball in the net and was fortunate to see the goal ruled out. Edouard Mendy - The Blues goalkeeper was untested in the opening half of the match and faced more pressure in the second.

That’s my opinion, that it’s a foul. Michail Antonio – Struggled to hold the ball up all afternoon and was regularly left stranded – just like against Nottingham Forest. Lukasz Fabianski – Had nothing to until he was caught out for Chilwell’s goal. Asked if he sought an explanation from the officials, Moyes said: “I didn’t want an explanation from him because it would be a tough one for them to give, wouldn’t it? There’s no excuse for that not to be a goal. “I’ve had a chance to see it from other angles, which they have. Christian Pulisic – Had a deflected wide in the first half but apart from that was fairly quiet. Was calculated in his fouling. Thiago Silva – Handled Antonio really well and was happy to see the striker drop into midfield. He flapped at the corner that led to Antonio’s goal and spilled the ball that Cornet then converted.

"The sad thing is that this is the level of our elite refereeing at the moment. The referee should have stuck to his own guns and been big enough to do what he said. Another plus for Chelsea, who have lacked a cutting edge up front for most of the season. It was Chilwell who stole the show, though, providing a goal and an assist from the left wing-back position. The West Ham forward, though, can feel aggrieved after VAR harshly ruled out what would have been an 89th-minute equaliser for a soft challenge on Mendy by Bowen. The best chance of the half fell to Christian Pulisic, but his tame effort was blocked by West Ham's record-signing Lucas Paqueta on his full league debut.
David Moyes is furious at a "scandalous" VAR decision after Chelsea fought back to beat his side at Stamford Bridge.

Ben Chilwell proved Chelsea's match-winner, scoring the equaliser and setting up Kai Havertz's goal to secure all three points against West Ham at Stamford ...
It was a beautiful moment to see Chilwell become the unlikely hero in desperate circumstances. He proved the match winner after deftly tapping in Chilwell’s cross. His direct dribbling in the 12th minute led to a corner. Kicked the ball out of play early on with a simple five-yard pass, which was a concern after a difficult start to life in west London. It was also just rewards for his ability to overcome the disappointment of both his serious knee injury and being left on the bench for the last few weeks. His cute through ball almost gave Pulisic a shot on goal in the 34th-minute but a last-ditch tackle stopped him. He proved Chelsea’s best creator on a difficult day, almost putting Gallagher in the second half. The US men’s national team captain can’t find it easy to perform having had so few minutes on the pitch this season. A solid debut from the 21-year-old defender who was thrown in with just three training sessions at his new club. Seeing Reece James performing so well at wing-back only exposed his lack of impact up the pitch. Loftus-Cheek’s height and power was an asset against West Ham but he copped an earful from his manager at times. West Ham were content to see him on the ball as their game plan focused on frustrating Chelsea’s creators.
The Hammers midfielder follows manager David Moyes in strong criticism after Maxwel Cornet's goal was disallowed.
We wanted to restart our season today, and we did.” We then do just enough to get back into it, and it’s taken away from us for no reason. The first goal was very similar. I don’t send my teams out to do that. “Jarrod says he hasn’t touched the goalkeeper at all. [Maxwel Cornet](/topic/maxwel-cornet) appeared to have responded swiftly to Kai Havertz’s goal for the Blues to make it 2-2, but VAR checked an incident moments before the goal involving Jarrod Bowen and [Edouard Mendy](/topic/edouard-mendy). “They’ve got new people in charge, so they’re trying to do something. Trying to justify that? So he’s done the same on the second goal. “It is a scandalous decision,” said Moyes. I’d question VAR today as much as the referee. I don’t know who in VAR sent him there.
West Ham United boss David Moyes labelled the VAR decision to rule out an equaliser in their 2-1 Premier League defeat at Chelsea "scandalous."
In my opinion, it is a foul," Tuchel said. The referee somehow gets that so wrong, it is incredible." "I thought even if he goes to the TV, there's no way he's overturning it. The goalkeeper comes to take it [the ball] and actually fumbles it about five or six yards then he acts as if he's got a shoulder injury. "It went in our favour and there's a reason it went in our favour. "Have you seen it?

Alan Shearer was not happy with the VAR call made during Chelsea's 2-1 win over West Ham United.
I’m more embarrassed for the guy in VAR than the referee because that’s telling me someone who doesn’t understand football and shouldn’t be near the game if that is enough to put someone near the screen.” “Today there is no excuse for that not to be a goal, none whatsoever. “They should be told to stay out of it the VAR officials. The Premier League are set to step in to deal with so called VAR misuse which has caused uproar amongst David Moyes and Declan Rice recently.
I'm more embarrassed for the guy in VAR than the referee because that's telling me someone who doesn't understand football and shouldn't be near the game if that is enough to put someone near the screen. "Today there is no excuse for that not to be a goal, none whatsoever. "They've got new people in charge who are trying to do something. "It is a scandalous decision, absolutely rotten from one of the supposedly elite referees," Moyes told Sky Sports. There have been many issues that all the managers have picked up but game week 6 of the 2022/23 campaign has been like none other so far. Stamford Bridge, St James Park and the Amex Stadium were the three locations whereby the most controversial of the decisions were made but David Moyes' and Declan Rice's explosive reactions amplified these decisions.
