Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall clash in the final press conference ahead of Saturdays title fight; watch the Shields vs Marshall undisputed ...
"I watched her box in Cardiff [in her last fight] and I thought it was diabolical," Marshall added. "I'll be disappointed If I get the Claressa that turned up in Cardiff... "No thank you," Marshall shot back. "What she doesn't like is I've got an opinion. At yesterday's public workout the two fighters had a testy exchange, with Shields lambasting Marshall for not bringing her championship belt. Marshall is the only boxer to have beaten Shields, when she outpointed her in a 2012 amateur contest.
Both fighters are undefeated as professionals and their fight tops a historic 10-fight all-women's bill on Saturday night.
Turning to Marshall, Shields added: "I don't know why you think you're so big and so strong. "Just two more days until I become undisputed middleweight champion of the world. "Clock's ticking," she said. It's like they're trying to erase everything I've done in the past years because I have been dominating boxing for a decade. But Marshall, who is four years older than Shields and has 10 knockouts in her 12 career victories, countered: "I've seen how Claressa boxes other girls - she's a bully, simple as that. She doesn't scare me."
In 2012 at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships, Marshall became the first and only fighter to ever beat Shields and from here the rivalry was sprung.
“What she’s achieved in this sport is unbelievable. “Of course there is [respect],” Marshall said. “There will never be a rivalry like this again, in my career,” Marshall told talkSPORT on the White & Jordan show.
SAVANNAH MARSHALL has revealed she "could not lay a glove" on Tommy Fury during a sparring session in her first visit to a pro gym.Marshall, 31, goes.
Even back then he was prepping me going 'it's not all Lamborghinis' and it wasn't." I went down to meet Peter and he was really nice and welcoming. "I put my gloves on and thought 'I'm going to batter you' but I could not lay a glove on him, that was my introduction to pro boxing." [Tommy Fury ](https://www.thesun.co.uk/who/tommy-fury/)was there and I remember Peter saying 'you do not lay a glove on her, do not touch her, I want you working on defence'. Marshall said: "Before I flew out to Vegas for my debut, I was on the phone to Sam Jones and I said 'I've never actually been in a pro gym'. SAVANNAH MARSHALL has revealed she "could not lay a glove" on Tommy Fury during a sparring session in her first visit to a pro gym.
Savannah Marshall says she has no doubt she will repeat her victory against Claressa Shields this weekend (Interview: Roy Kelly)
I’ve got to sell myself and I’ve had to sell this fight. I can’t wait to box her and beat her again. I used to watch Women’s Super League matches and three quarters of the ground would be empty, so to see the Lionesses sell out stadiums and have a TV audience of millions is unbelievable. Her saying I only got that decision because the Olympics were in London that year doesn’t upset me – 99 per cent of the stuff she comes out with is bollocks. It was Hartlepool Headland Boys Club when I started there and nothing ever got said but the sign came down after about six months and then it read Hartlepool Headland Boxing Club. To come full circle and beat her again will be amazing.
Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall finally fight as professionals this weekend in an undisputed bout that will settle a decade-long rivalry.
Similarly Marshall stopped Rankin, who was beaten on points by Shields earlier in her career. It’s certainly a big step up for Marshall, who for all her exciting talent has not been fighting at the elite level for as long as Shields. She was typically destructive in taking out Femke Hermans in April, a fighter who went the full ten round with Shields four years ago. Three defences have followed since then - now she gets her shot at the biggest of prizes. “I feel like I fought against her, I fought against the judges, I fought against the ref. It’s a rematch of sorts, even if the first fight came in 2012 when the pair were amateurs.
Shields and Marshall have been set to headline a fight card at London's O2 Arena on Saturday night.
