Emma Raducanu is through to the second round of the Slovenia Open after a win over Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine.

The South American has won the first set and is 3-0 up in the second so hopefully that shouldn't be too long. Raducanu, who of course so brilliantly won the US Open in 2021, has struggled since and is today standing at number 83 in the world rankings. And with Raducanu floundering at the back of the court, the Ukraine player tries a dodgy drop shot that flops sadly into the net. Now a serve into the net. And now she hits one into the net. The British No 1 was on course to break one final time at 30-0 on the Yastremska serve at 5-3, when the Ukrainian stopped the game to call the physio after dropping her racket when she felt pain in her wrist, which was already taped. It was a positive start for the top seed, who held to love in her first service game before breaking the Ukrainian’s serve to take an early lead. It was the Brit’s first match since dropping to No 83 in the world but she showed that she was up for the challenge of climbing back up to the top as she breezed through before the match ended suddenly.

She didn't press the issue too much either which preserved her energy well for the finish but unfrotunately it came due to a retirement. Raducanu took the ball early and she struck with a lot of confidence early in the match. She did a lot of damage on return attacking Yastremska with great success.
