Made in France: the only recording of God Save the King to be had (The Guardian)

If you want to play a recording of the UK's revamped national anthem then you will probably have to rely on an unlikely source: a French opera singer.

Kientz, who has travelled across the UK, said he did not expect his recording of God Save the King to provide much of an income: “I really love this anthem because it’s very vocal, you have many things to do. Kientz’s recording of God Save the King had been largely ignored, but it has recently been played hundreds of thousands of times as people look for a version with the correct words. The year after they asked me to record God Save the Queen – and God Save the King.”

London — The reign of Great Britain's new monarch, King Charles III, began immediately when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died on September 8.

To be clear, the ceremony is religious and symbolic, but not a constitutional requirement, and Charles III is no less the king for not having been through the process yet. On the occasion, Charles' wife Camilla will be crowned queen consort by his side. Chris Bond, from Truro in southwest England, was among those lining up along the banks of the River Thames. Troops involved in the procession have been preparing since the queen died. “I have 1,001 emotions when I see her,” he said. They stood or sat on folding chairs, umbrellas at the ready, takeout coffees in hand. Hundreds of thousands are expected to do the same in London when the queen lies in state at the 900-year-old Westminster Hall, the oldest building in Parliament, for four days before her state funeral on Monday. “So, we had to be here. Christopher Ghika, of the Household division, who organized the ceremonial aspects of the queen’s funeral said it was a sad day, “but it’s our last opportunity to do our duty for the queen and it’s our first opportunity to do it for the king, and that makes us all very proud.” Applause broke out as it went through Horse Guards Parade. We’ve been here a few times when there have been special occasions, but this one, I couldn’t miss this.” Thousands more were standing or sitting in line along the banks of the River Thames waiting their turn to file past the coffin when it lies in state for four days before the queen’s state funeral on Monday. With the Royal Standard and crown of state resting on top of the coffin and artillery firing salutes at one-minute intervals, the solemn procession was designed to underscore the queen’s 70 years as head of state as the national mourning process shifts to the grand boulevards and historic landmarks of the U.K. [Share this article on Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/king-charles-prince-william-prince-harry-queen-elizabeth-procession-1235220366/&title=King%20Charles%20III,%20Princes%20William%20and%20Harry%20Walk%20in%20Procession%20to%20Honor%20Queen%20Elizabeth%20II&sdk=joey&display=popup&ref=plugin&src=share_button&app_id=352999048212581) [Share this article on Twitter](https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?url=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/king-charles-prince-william-prince-harry-queen-elizabeth-procession-1235220366/&text=King%20Charles%20III%2C%20Princes%20William%20and%20Harry%20Walk%20in%20Procession%20to%20Honor%20Queen%20Elizabeth%20II&via=thr) [Share this article on Email](mailto:?subject=thr%20:%20King%20Charles%20III,%20Princes%20William%20and%20Harry%20Walk%20in%20Procession%20to%20Honor%20Queen%20Elizabeth%20II&body=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/king-charles-prince-william-prince-harry-queen-elizabeth-procession-1235220366/%20-%20King%20Charles%20III,%20Princes%20William%20and%20Harry%20Walk%20in%20Procession%20to%20Honor%20Queen%20Elizabeth%20II) [Show additional share options](#) [Share this article on Print]() [Share this article on Comment](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/king-charles-prince-william-prince-harry-queen-elizabeth-procession-1235220366/#respond) [Share this article on Whatsapp](whatsapp://send?text=King%20Charles%20III,%20Princes%20William%20and%20Harry%20Walk%20in%20Procession%20to%20Honor%20Queen%20Elizabeth%20II%20-%20https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/king-charles-prince-william-prince-harry-queen-elizabeth-procession-1235220366/) [Share this article on Linkedin](https://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=1&url=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/king-charles-prince-william-prince-harry-queen-elizabeth-procession-1235220366/&title=King%20Charles%20III,%20Princes%20William%20and%20Harry%20Walk%20in%20Procession%20to%20Honor%20Queen%20Elizabeth%20II&summary&source=thr) [Share this article on Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/submit?url=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/king-charles-prince-william-prince-harry-queen-elizabeth-procession-1235220366/&title=King%20Charles%20III,%20Princes%20William%20and%20Harry%20Walk%20in%20Procession%20to%20Honor%20Queen%20Elizabeth%20II) [Share this article on Pinit](https://pinterest.com/pin/create/link/?url=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/king-charles-prince-william-prince-harry-queen-elizabeth-procession-1235220366/&description=King%20Charles%20III,%20Princes%20William%20and%20Harry%20Walk%20in%20Procession%20to%20Honor%20Queen%20Elizabeth%20II) [Share this article on Tumblr](https://www.tumblr.com/widgets/share/tool/preview?shareSource=legacy&canonicalUrl&url=https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/king-charles-prince-william-prince-harry-queen-elizabeth-procession-1235220366/&posttype=link&title=King%20Charles%20III,%20Princes%20William%20and%20Harry%20Walk%20in%20Procession%20to%20Honor%20Queen%20Elizabeth%20II) [Queen Elizabeth II](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t/queen-elizabeth-ii/) left Buckingham Palace for the last time Wednesday, her coffin borne by a horse-drawn gun carriage and trailed by grieving family members during a journey to the Houses of Parliament, where it [will lie in state until the funeral early next week.](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/bbc-queen-elizabeth-live-stream-coffin-1235220297/)

The tragedy of King Charles III (POLITICO.eu)

A life of public service is forcing the newly anointed monarch to end of a lifetime of private activism. That may be easier said than done.

That’s in part because the monarch is “regarded as a British institution, and it isn’t regarded as a Scottish institution anymore,” he added. For instance, his near-annual trips to Ireland seem calculated to build on the queen’s watershed visit in 2011, which marked a high point in the long and violent history of British-Irish relations. “Nobody knows what utter hell it is to be Prince of Wales,” he reportedly said in 2004. In addition to the crown, Charles has inherited his mother’s position as head of the Commonwealth, but “There has been a misinterpretation of what he does — he travels the world and he brings to light issues that are raised with him. One [Sunday paper](https://twitter.com/BBCHelena/status/1568684998609481728) set out what is at stake, asking on the front page whether he could be “the last king of Scotland.” Christine, a retiree from the focus group in Oldham, said: “I think he should make his feelings clear — after all he is the king. “But he has acquired a lot of wisdom in his 70 years. He has stood in support of fox hunting and in opposition to “ugly” modern architecture, but he has also championed organic farming and advocated for action on climate change well before the subject was embraced by the mainstream. “My life will of course change as I take up my new responsibilities,” he said, a little more than 24 hours after his mother died at Balmoral Castle, bringing to an end the reign of the only monarch most Britons can remember. While he can rightly consider himself vindicated now that the zeitgeist has caught up with him, Charles still hasn’t been able to escape the occasional bout of ridicule. The entire speech was designed to reassure a country in mourning for Queen Elizabeth II that her successor would not depart from the style of steady, even-handed leadership she had embodied.

The King previously went by the titles of the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall - which came with certain responsibilities.

The new monarch will have to give up some of his commitments from years gone by as he takes on a new realm of responsibilities and duties. And just yesterday, it was revealed that he may have to give up some of his staff - as dozens of Clarence House employees including private secretaries were given notice of the threat of redundancy. [Queen Elizabeth II](https://www.mirror.co.uk/all-about/the-queen) created him the Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester when he was a child, and from the moment the Queen ascended the throne on February 6, 1952, he has gone by the Duke of Cornwall. "He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities for the Duchy of Cornwall which I have undertaken for more than five decades." A Clarence House spokesman said: "Following last week's Accession, the operations of the Household of the former Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have ceased and, as required by law, a consultation process has begun. "It will no longer be possible for me to give so much of my time and energies to the charities and issues for which I care so deeply. As the Prince of Wales, he also became known as a passionate campaigner and driver for action on climate change and environmental issues. King Charles is also a patron and member of hundreds of charities, which he now won't be able to devote as much time too. "And wherever you may live in the United Kingdom, or in the Realms and territories across the world, and whatever may be your background or beliefs, I shall endeavour to serve you with loyalty, respect and love, as I have throughout my life. Each of these titles came with accountability and commitments, which will now be passed onto his eldest son and heir to the throne, Prince William - who has automatically assumed the title of Duke of Cornwall, and will most likely be honoured as the Prince of Wales in the weeks to come.

More than that, the course of his life to date has traced the course of the modern media age. His disappointed loves, his mistakes and missteps, his bursts of petulance, his impassioned ideas about the built environment, farming and homeopathy: all have – sometimes through his own fault, sometimes not – been consumed as a form of public entertainment. Whether he likes it or not – and I suspect that he doesn’t like it one bit – His Majesty comes to the throne not only in a more emotionally unbuttoned age, but as a monarch whose emotions have been part of the public conversation. Charles has spent the whole span of a human life in history’s waiting room leafing through back-issues of Punch – and now his appointment is called at the time of his greatest personal grief. He spoke of his ‘darling Mama’ and ‘dear late Papa’, of love for Harry and Meghan, love for his people and for tradition, and the loving support of his ‘darling wife’. Charles III’s first address to the nation as King began by speaking of sorrow – and went on to speak of love.

His passing represented a major disruption to national life at a time when folk were more certain of their national identity and confidant that as a nation could cope with whatever problems arose. The Queen's net worth and how much King Charles III will inherit as ... (Birmingham Live)

With Queen Elizabeth's death, the line of succession means King Charles III now inherits much of her responsibilities and also her wealth and estates.

And her wealth would have grown in the last five years. And reports suggest that the Royal Family has £67 billion worth of assets. The Guardian reported last year that the Queen successfully convinced the British government to change the law - in the 1970s in order to hide her exact level of wealth from the public, claiming it would be embarrassing for the public to know. With Queen Elizabeth's death, the line of succession means King Charles III now inherits much of her responsibilities and also her wealth and estates.

The timing of that's A-OK, everything else has to wait," another mused, as the debate rumbled on. Amid the backlash, some of Kirstie's followers agreed with the presenter, with one writing: "From what I can gather, they are following good HR practice, but informing people as soon as possible, giving them maximum warning of possible changes. [reports dozens of Clarence House staff have been given notice of redundancies](https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/royals/king-charles-staff-face-redundancy-27985223), as the offices of King Charles III and the Queen Consort move to Buckingham Palace. This could have waited for another week couldn't it?" Good to know." Would a fortnight's wait have made any difference?"

King Charles III returns to Highgrove House as he prepares for new ... (Gloucestershire Live)

After a busy week full of emotion and duties, the new King is having a much-needed breather at his Georgian mansion in the Cotswolds.

Highgrove House, which was built in the 18th Century and has been King Charles' family home since the 1980s, is no exception, as plenty of Cotswold residents have left sweet messages and flowers in memory of the Queen and its gates. Charles will have the mammoth task of reading and, where appropriate, approving and signing these papers. Last night, King Charles III arrived at Highgrove House, near Tetbury, whilst Camilla travelled to her home in Wiltshire as the Royal Standard was lowered at Buckingham Palace and replaced with the Union Flag, letting everyone know that the monarch had left his London work residence. Camilla's stunning Wiltshire residence, Ray Mill House, was purchased by the now-Queen Consort back in 1994, following her split from Andrew Parker-Bowles, [the Express reports](https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/property/1669555/king-charles-queen-camilla-highgrove-house-ray-mill-wiltshire-property-inside-pictures). The late Queen was photographed with these red boxes sitting on her desk on many occasions. This was epitomised in her humorous contributions, in her Diamond and Platinum Jubilee years, when she appeared before the world apparently parachuting in to the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics. More publicly controversial was the decision to televise her coronation in 1953. The change was introduced, and few of those visiting the palace, whether politicians or foreign ambassadors, noticed the disappearance of these uncomfortable and expensive accoutrements, as the lavish uniforms remained. Behind the scenes the introduction of new versions of traditions was not always welcomed, but she persisted. She learned to Zoom during lockdown, and to use social media, so she was not, and did not appear, out of touch. For the first time, the whole event was televised, opening it to the public gaze.

The Christian Anglican Church is the established Church of England, meaning that there is a formal relationship between church and state in which it operates.

Discrimination has increased recently in the form of anti-Semitism towards those of the Jewish faith and Islamophobia towards those of the Islamic faith. Likewise, in recent decades, psychiatry in the United States has also paid increased attention to the influence of spirituality and formal religions. The Christian Anglican Church is the established Church of England, meaning that there is a formal relationship between church and state in which it operates. In England, as perhaps some of us are learning from the Queen’s death, there is no separation of church and state as there is in the United States. Princess Anne, for instance, the King's sister, lives six miles away at Gatcombe Park, while Camilla's private home, Ray Mill House, in Wiltshire is just a thirty-minute drive away. Following Charles' first marriage to Princess Diana in 1980, it became their marital and later family home. But of course, the estate was always close to Camilla's personal home Ray Mill House in Reybridge near Lacock, Wiltshire - and is now a place the King and his Queen Consort deeply cherish.
