[kitten levels tokyo](https://www.boredpanda.com/author/kittenlevelstokyo)10 hours ago To honor that name, you can call your pet Felix or Felicia – both sound very beautiful and look good on a cat. Observe their behavior for a couple of days. [Deborah Harris](https://www.boredpanda.com/author/deborahharris)11 hours ago First of all, congratulations! Does your kitty like to stick their tongue out a lot? Science can be a source of some unique cat names. Giving your new pet a name can be quite challenging at times. You are now in possession of a natural alarm clock that will demand food at the crack of dawn, an interior designer who’ll rearrange stuff on your desk according to the latest trends (and knock off everything that doesn’t fit in), and an affectionate bundle that will give you the warmest cuddles in the world. And if you are after some rare cat names, you can go deeper into mathematical terms (kitten siblings Sine and Cosine, anyone?), chemical elements (a golden kitten named Aurum will draw lots of attention), and so on. Sometimes it is enough to look at them and you already realize what name will suit them to a T, but sometimes you might have a bunch of nice names and still be unsure which one to select as your final choice. So you brought home a ball of purr.

Boredom can be bad for your cat's health — here's how you can ... (CBC.ca)

Playtime and food puzzles are just some of the ways to keep your cat entertained and engaged.

Going for a walk outside is a great way to allow your cat to explore and be stimulated, but the activity certainly isn't every cat's cup of tea. This is a fun and easy way to challenge your cat when they cannot hunt for their own food. Your cat will have the benefit of enjoying the outdoors from the safety of your home. Or that the little animated fish that swims across the iPad is not real? The vet advised that another sign to look out for is if your cat is trying to get your attention by any means necessary. Both experts agreed that if you notice any of these cues, it may be time to visit your vet in case your cat is at risk of something more severe. One of the easiest — and most fun — things an owner can do is dedicate some time to playing. "A catio, if it's safely built, is going to be good for almost any cat," Richter said, "because it just expands their world a little bit … But which ones are best equipped to rescue your kitty from the brink of boredom? These attention-seeking tactics may be signs of anxiety that your furry friend is trying to communicate to you, which could lead to more serious problems down the road. If these actions seem familiar to you and your feline friend, then pay attention. Between the hours of seven and eight in the morning, my cat wakes me up with head bonks, purrs and tummy cuddles.

Antifreeze, or glycol poisoning, affects the kidneys and can advance to brain damage.

Cat dies from 'antifreeze poisoning' in Ayrshire days before first ... (Scottish Daily Record)

Velvet fell ill outside a property in East Ayrshire over the weekend, and had to be put to sleep after vets found her to have digested the fatal substance.

“There are strict guidelines for use and anyone who uses this substance to cause deliberate harm is committing an offence. Alarmed by the state of her declining health, Velvet's owner rushed the feline to an out of hours vet where medics sadly confirmed that she was suffering from antifreeze poisoning. In this instance, although the charity don't believe Velvet's death to have been a targeted attack, they are urging members of the public to report anything suspicious in a bid to prevent similar fatalities from taking place. “This has been a very sad outcome for a young, otherwise healthy cat and we’d like to ensure that no other owners in the area suffer this heart-breaking situation. "It is essential that everyone stores antifreeze out of reach of cats and other animals and checks routinely to make sure there are no leaks." [cat](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/animals) has died of 'antifreeze poisoning' just days before its first birthday, prompting an [animal welfare charity](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/sspca) to issue a stark warning to owners.

Recently, we've posted letters through people's doors to make them aware of the situation and even reported it to the police as I think it may be someone doing it on purpose." We are therefore asking cat owners in the area to be vigilant. After seeing the same thing with Arlo and Bella, I thought it was going to be a similar issue. After such a difficult period, the family have decided they will no longer let their new cat go outside due to the risk of them falling ill to the same fate. "They rang us at 11pm that day and told us she'd been having seizures and was going to have to be put to sleep." We got a knock on the door a few days later from the neighbour saying they'd found him unresponsive and taken him to the Blue Cross Hospital. After running some tests, they told us she had poison in her blood and that they'd hoped to flush it out, but it didn't work. Now, she wants other pet owners to be aware of the potential dangers and poisons that could harm their feline friends. I tried to get her stood up and walking, but she just kept wobbling, which I'd never seen her do before. Victoria Vincent, 37, and her family have had to deal with losing a pet more often than most of us may ever have to.

A cat is a great option for any family but especially if you can’t always be home to let the pet out to potty. CATS NEED TIME TO ADJUST: The transition for the new cat should be as smooth as possible. Cats like to climb and get up high — perhaps a top shelf can be cleared for them to hang out on or a cat tree with several levels can be added. Adding a cat to the family can be a fun and entertaining experience for all. Our cat condos have multiple levels that offer lots of climbing and high places for cats to hide and lounge. Cats come in a variety of personalities: Some can be high maintenance in their demands of love and attention, while others are more aloof, play hard to get and make their humans work for their affection.

Is Declawing a Cat Cruel? Here's What You Need to Know (Green Matters)

Is cat declawing cruel? Although it can be unpleasant to have a cat scratch you, it may be better than having their claws removed altogether.

Instead of completely declawing your kitty, you can also trim their claws. Many even tend to develop various neurological issues, as a result of the procedure. You can also get them a cat tree or a scratching post, so they can scratch all they want without it bothering you. If they continue to scratch your furniture, there are various types of repellants, that deters them from scratching in certain areas. Per PETA, it's a traumatic and invasive process that involves 10 amputations of the cat's nails and joints along their paws. But luckily, there are many healthier alternatives to declawing. So if your cat enjoys going outside, you're essentially forcing them out into the world totally and utterly defenseless. "AVMA discourages declawing as an elective procedure and supports non-surgical alternatives. Declawing is completely banned in England, Scotland, Wales, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and other nations. won't perform the declawing procedure because of the pain and suffering it can cause. It's still legal in the U.S. Cats can be unpredictable, and let's face it, nobody enjoys getting scratched.

How to introduce a second cat into your home (TAG24.COM)

Are you thinking of getting a second cat? Worried about how your current feline friend might take it? TAG24's cat guide has the answers to your questions.

Whenever one of the four steps gets too hard, it is a good idea to return to the previous phase and continue to take things slowly. By taking it easy, while staying incredibly patient and cautious, you should be able to introduce a second cat into your household. Introducing a second cat to a household can be a difficult process, with many fights and squabbles along the way. If there's ever the risk of serious injury, then you should of course intervene, and in any case, the cats should only directly interact for a few hours a day at the start to reduce their stress. The two cats need to finally meet and be able to interact, so don't get too hands-on. Once your new cat has arrived and settled into the new environment, the exchange of smell can begin. You need to prepare well for the introduction of a second cat. It's possible that one cat will try to attack the other, so be present throughout the process. This will destroy the trust that the new cat has in you, and could even prove dangerous. A cat owner should not spend less time with one cat as a result of getting a second cat. Whether you add another cat to your household is, of course, a personal choice. But is that a good idea and how are you supposed to go about it?
