Manchester United were triumphant in their opening WSL game against Reading, with Katie Zelem marking her 100th appearance in style.

She is a fan favourite with United fans for a reason, you can just see her quality and what she brings to the team within seconds of watching her play. Overall it was a strong performance against Reading and the manager will be incredibly pleased with what they managed. She consistently occupies defenders and if they take their eyes off her for a second she is instantly in acres of space. Toone was full of energy throughout the game and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet herself. However, when the goalkeeper turned around she saw that it had nestled into the back of her neck. Before the game, Katie Zelem received a special award to commemorate her 100th appearance for United as she became the first player in the women's team's short history to achieve this feat.

England star Nikita Parris was introduced late on following her summer move from Arsenal to United and almost added a fifth, heading just wide in the 80th minute. It was a trademark goal from the 23-year-old, as she towered over her marker to nod in Ona Batlle's cross. United are back in action next Sunday when they take on West Ham at Victoria Road. Arsenal won their opening game of the season on Friday by beating Brighton 4-0 at Meadow Park. Le Tissier headed in on this occasion to make it 3-0. The skipper stepped up and confidently dispatched the penalty. Zelem got the chance to double United's lead moments later when Moloney brought Russo down in the box. It was a cheeky finish, too, as the 20-year-old defender flicked the ball over goalkeeper Grace Moloney. Russo all but ended the contest just before half-time when she made it 4-0. It's fair to assume the United boss wasn't disappointed at full-time. "I want us to be more exciting in our one-on-one situations - I want us to be a team," he told United's website. Maya Le Tissier had a debut to remember for Manchester United as she scored twice in their 4-0 win over Reading in the Women's Super League.

Reading could manage only two shots to United’s 24 and 24% of possession, despite their second-half improvement. Le Tissier – no relation of Matt, although they both come from Guernsey – made a formidable debut after joining United from Brighton in the summer. It was a dream start for Le Tissier, and a wholly unexpected one given she is a centre-back.
