Robinson misses from the spot as Bluebirds slip to defeat (WalesOnline)

An early strike from Jordan Rhodes proved enough to hand the managerless Terriers all three points at a rowdy John Smith's Stadium, although Robinson should ...

Replays admittedly suggest the midfielder might well have been lucky to escape a card. A high boot from Anjorin on Andy Rinomhota was deemed dangerous enough to warrant a spot kick by referee Dean Whitestone, although it's probably fair to say the home crowd disagreed. The hosts continued to take charge in the early exchanges. Was a hint of handball there too. Indeed, it was Huddersfield that started on the front foot, and they took the lead after just nine minutes. Cardiff should have hauled themselves back into the game. Cardiff improved as the contest wore on, and may well feel they deserved more. He's one on one with the keeper, but just as he's about to pull the trigger, Kipre is there to slide in. In fairness to Robinson, he responded quite well from his spot kick woes, and his pressure on the Huddersfield defence helped yield a freekick on the edge of the box, which was curled straight into the arms of the keeper by O'Dowda, although Cardiff felt the initial foul was actually inside the box. At the other end, Robinson should perhaps have done better to connect with O'Dowda's flashed ball across goal, but Cardiff were gradually starting to gain a foothold in the game. But on the whole, they laboured to find the incisiveness needed to breach a well-drilled Huddersfield defence. Callum Robinson missed the chance to open his Cardiff City account from the spot as the Bluebirds slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town.

Nicholls & Holmes impress, Anjorin underwhelms: Huddersfield ... (Football League World)

Huddersfield Town picked up their second win of the Championship season this afternoon, beating Cardiff City 1-0 at the John Smith's Stadium.

Justified the decision to start him. Spurned a big chance in the second-half before he was taken off. Michal Helik – 8: Solid and read the game well throughout, putting his head and foot in time after time. Always a threat in-behind and not afraid to do his defensive work. Some real bravery at the back post late on to keep that intact. Luke Mbete (for Rhodes) – n/a: On to waste time at the start of four minutes added time at the end of the second-half.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic, though, with Huddersfield continuing to carry a threat. That particular decision was vindicated early on when Town’s No.9 drove a shot into Ryan Allsop’s bottom corner for, what proved to be, the winning goal.
