Ruiz asked why Bobby had visited Joe’s parents and he told a story about how they took him in after meeting him, and referred him to Joe for help. When Jack told Joe he was wrong, Joe revealed that the police had found her journal and he showed him the photos of Julianne (Camilla Beeput) he’d found in his apartment. He revealed Julianne was pregnant then took a walk with his step-mother, who told Joe that his father didn’t blame him for not getting his mother out of the house fire that killed her. Joe confirmed he did and told him that he’d known for a couple of weeks. Taking her car keys, Joe made a quick getaway before Ruiz (Shaun Parkes) and Devi (Anjli Mohindra) showed up, and were told that a man matching Joe’s description was seen fleeing the scene. Julianne told them that Cara was Joe’s alibi and she knows he wouldn’t have killed anyone. When he tried to put it off until the next day, Julianne insisted so Joe went to see Cara and found her dead.

The official synopsis reads: “Dr Joe O’Loughlin is a psychologist with a successful private practice and a published book to his name. But they also put me in touch with Drew Hallam, a young man, 39 now, the same age as me, but he was diagnosed at 35. He just talked to me about the medication, how it works, mood swings, how his sleep can be disrupted. When the post-mortem examination reveals that the woman has died from 21 self-inflicted stab wounds, O’Loughlin is drafted in for advice. The Suspect is currently in its first series. I asked him what some of the most difficult things were and he said, ‘I couldn’t trust myself to hold my kids.’”
