A Slightly Biased Review of Harry Styles's Performance in 'Don't ... (Vogue.com)

As a shameless fan, I came in with an open, charitable heart, absolutely rooting for Styles. As a culture writer, I was intrigued about the film everyone is ...

The ladies are encouraged to get sauced, loll by the pool, and sex their one-dimensionally handsome husbands after they stroll in from a hard day at the office. It is at once a candy-colored nightmare in which Pugh’s Alice, Wilde’s Bunny, and a merry band of housewives are gaslit into obedience, and a pleasant (for some) chauvinist commune in the desert, masterminded by a cult-y Chris Pine. Alas, the only cure for my plummeting serotonin levels was more Styles: I was there to see how the pop/rock star fares in his first [major acting role](https://www.vogue.com/article/emma-corrin-august-2022-cover) after a bit part in 2017’s Dunkirk; curious about the much-advertised scene in which he [watermelon sugars](https://www.popbuzz.com/music/artists/harry-styles/news/watermelon-sugar-meaning-oral-sex/) with Florence Pugh.

There was allegedly a “long negotiation process” between Warner Bros. and Pugh before she would agree to promote the film “in any way.”

Don't Worry Darling Ending Explained (Den of Geek)

In Olivia Wilde's second feature film as a director, Don't Worry Darling, Florence Pugh and Harry Styles star as Alice and Jack Chambers, a young couple who ...

This time, she’s able to leave (we don’t see how, exactly), and as the screen goes black, we hear her take in a breath, (presumably as she wakes up next to her dead hubby) back in her own life again. Alice escapes in a car, with the red jumpsuit guys, Collins, and some of the husbands in pursuit. As Alice locks eyes with the other women, they seem to suddenly begin to awaken to what is really happening, and what Victory is. Jack later rationalizes to himself and Alice (when she learns the truth) that this is somehow all for her, that she is overworked and needs a better life… In the real world, Jack and Alice live in a shabby apartment in a rundown part of town. While we don’t get to know Bunny very well, she certainly comes across as a queen bee of the wives and the central information hub for all the local gossip. We catch a quick glimpse of Jack looking at the Victory Project’s website and listening to a speech by Frank, which first alerts us to his growing interest in the latter’s agenda. Alice works as a doctor and is clearly the main breadwinner in the household. We don’t see how he first traps his wife in this VR hell, but we have to assume that he drugged her and must keep drugging her daily to keep her trapped in the tech. Everything in Victory revolves around the Project, which no one can talk about, and every need of the inhabitants of Victory is taken care of through it. When Alice, however, begins to experience strange visions and is haunted by the apparent death of another neighbor, her friend Margaret (Kiki Layne), she also starts to realize that something is amiss in Victory. She also finds time in the afternoon to shop, go to dance class, and gossip with her next door neighbor, Bunny (Wilde).

Forget all the press hoopla, the Harry Styles spitting on Chris Pine rumours, the internet drama of it all. Director Olivia Wilde's Stepford Wives-meets-Mad Men ...

It’s a standout among early-00s hidden-camera shows, now arriving on streaming. Two weeks after its Venice premiere, the Marilyn Monroe quasi-biopic arrives, starring Ana de Armas (above) as the iconic Hollywood blonde, and trailing clouds of controversy. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is on board for this dance reimagining of Tommy Shelby and his gang’s exploits, which Knight says is for “people who don’t usually watch dance”. Off the back of a warmly received Edinburgh run, the Yorkshire comic – bursting with positivity at the return of in-person standup – takes to the road with new show Buzzed. Need a bit of sparkle in your September? South Korea’s global prominence in pop culture is celebrated with a blockbuster show that also aspires to put Squid Game and Gangnam Style into some kind of historical perspective. The great South African artist (work above) is a rugged humanist and cosmic speculator, graphic artist and film-maker, a protean talent with a relentless nagging sense of history. This nine-date tour is both a celebration of Digga D’s recent successes, as well as solidifying drill’s position in UK rap. It is also one of the most ambitious, taking in 4.5bn years of Earth’s history, as two choruses and two soloists tell the story of life on this planet, and humanity’s impact upon it. This contemplative story of sisters reconnecting will be catnip to those in tune with the South Korean auteur’s improvisational rhythms. If you know and love the work of director Hong Sang-soo, you’re in for a treat. In addition, it showcases Bella Ramsey as a talent to watch.

Why you don't have to worry about Don't Worry Darling... (Radio X)

Find out what we thought of the Olivia Wilde-directed film starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh.

Not because you know Don't Worry Darling is going to be really good, but because you know it's going to look really good. Despite all this, reader beware: there are a few moments that will feel a bit naff and out of odds with the general style of the film,, but luckily (for reasons you'll understand when you watch the it) these are very few and far between. While it's not a particularly new concept (the idyllic mid-century lifestyle draws instant comparisons with The Stepford Wives), Don't Worry Darling does manage to entertain, intrigue and keep audiences on the edge of their seats. We wouldn't go as far to say she carries the movie, but she certainly is doing a lot of leg work, showing her incredible range as she goes from picture perfect 50s housewife to a woman on the edge of a nervous breakdown. Don't Worry Darling hasn't just garnered a bit of attention. "But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning exactly what they’re doing in Victory, and why.

Let's talk about the big reveal in 'Don't Worry Darling' (The Washington Post)

The disastrous "Don't Worry Darling" press tour with Olivia Wilde, Harry Styles and Florence Pugh got everyone talking. But what is the movie itself trying ...

It is only fitting that “Don’t Worry Darling” was released after a promotional tour inadvertently drawing attention to a web of alleged feuds between the director and her actors, whether over casting decisions or on-set behavior. Were “Don’t Worry Darling” truly interested in interrogating the structures that perpetuate misogyny, it might have pondered the role of complicit women, like Shelley, who steadfastly betray their own. But after a single viewing of “ [Don’t Worry Darling](https://www.washingtonpost.com/movies/2022/09/20/dont-worry-darling-movie-review/?itid=lk_inline_manual_5)” — an actual film released Friday, not just a vehicle for [star-studded scandals](https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2022/09/06/dont-worry-darling-press-tour/?itid=lk_inline_manual_5) — it would be hard to maintain this ignorance. Does Jack trust Frank (Chris Pine), the Peterson-esque head of the company who runs the town with his wife, Shelley (Gemma Chan)? The central depiction of domestic bliss is brought to us by actors Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, who play young married couple Alice and Jack Chambers. The women are brainwashed into believing this is reality, while the men remain aware of its artificiality.

Don't Worry Darling review – Styles over substance (The Guardian)

Florence Pugh is phenomenal in Olivia Wilde's beautiful-looking Stepford Wives-like thriller. But the story barely holds together – ditto Harry Styles as ...

But the problem is that Wilde leans too heavily on surface and style, as a distraction from the fact that the story itself is riddled with inconsistencies and barely holds together. So far, so Stepford – it’s a serviceably pulpy thriller with a feminist subtext and, with its mysterious forbidden laboratory, a hint of sci-fi to come. Life in the utopian desert town of Victory, home to Alice (Florence Pugh) and her husband, Jack (Harry Styles), might be an endless circuit of martinis and potluck parties.
