Mini Budget and UK growth plan 2022 (NHS Employers)

Key points relating to health and care from the Chancellor's growth plan for the UK, which was outlined today in a mini Budget.

- An energy bill relief scheme will reduce wholesale gas and electricity prices for all UK business, charities and public sector organisations, including hospitals. Unions must put pay offers to a member vote, so that industrial action can only be called once negotiations have ‘genuinely broken down.’ - Additional funding for the NHS and social care will be maintained at the same level.

Mini-Budget: Office of Tax Simplification to be shut down (FT Adviser)

The Office of Tax Simplification will be shut down Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng announced today as part of the government s mini Budget.

"But instead of a single arms-length body which is separate from the Treasury and HMRC, we need to embed tax simplification into the heart of government." Set up in 2010 to identify areas where complexities in the tax system for businesses and individual taxpayers can be reduced, the body is an independent office of HM Treasury. The Chancellor said the body would be abolished to boost economic growth and simplify the tax system.
