Leeds Rhinos and St Helens clash at Old Trafford to become the 2022 Betfred Super League Grand Final champions this evening, KO 6pm. Before the teams run.
He has also nearly reached 2400 metres for the season and leads the club in offloads (his total of 36 is the fifth most in the League this season). No Leeds player has made more tackles than the prop (791 tackles), and when compared with the Super League competition, he ranks tenth overall. Oledzki has more carries and total metres than any Rhinos forward this season and ranks second in the whole squad for the same metrics (only Ash Handley beats the prop). 43 tackles came against Hull FC back in March and last time out against Wigan, he was one of the Rhinos’ top tacklers with 26 (Cam Smith made the most with 40). A natural play-maker, he has 22 try assists (second by a Saints player and tenth in Super League), and 28 try involvements. His performances against Catalans (both home and away), Wigan and Wakefield saw the prop win the CitySprint Rhinos Index Award, which is the joint-second most with James Bentley. His carry count is the fourth best by a Leeds player in 2022 and ranks 20th compared to the Super League competition. He does miss the most tackles (averaging nearly four a game), which has caused his efficiency percentage to drop. St Helens have only allowed 386 points to be scored against them in 2022 (the next best in Wigan with 503), while Kristian Woolf’s side has also conceded 72 tries. This season he has started all the Super League games he’s played, most of which have been at second row. Saints have also dominated possession, sitting second to Huddersfield with a 51.2%, but Leeds’ set completion percentage comes out on top (the Rhinos complete 77.6% of their sets, compared to Saints’ 75.4%). Eight out of the last ten meetings have been won by the side in red and white, whilst Leeds’ previous home victory against Saints was a 16-14 Super 8s result in 2017.

He’s a great team player and it’s great to have him back.” Don’t be surprised to see Hopoate and Bennison swap however. Many expected Richie Myler to move into the halves and Zak Hardaker to fullback, but Smith has kept Myler at fullback and Hardaker at centre and in doing so hasn’t had to move people around: “They’ve been doing so well there so we don’t have to shuffle things around at the start of the game.”

Promoted Stories In scoring so early, Saints set a new Super League record for the quickest try in a Grand Final. The England prop was put to the line after a phenomenal piece of skill by Jonny Lomax.
The Rhinos lost 24-12 to St Helens at Old Trafford. Afterwards, Smith spoke to the press.
You can make the tackle offside and not get penalised but then you can be the opposite side of the ruck and get penalised. You can reflect on the game itself, we'll all have what ifs and that, but at some stage when the time is right as an individual they have to reflect on the journey that was and we'll never go on one a journey like that again. I think he's a good referee but I have noted, a lot, that the use of the penalty for offside is one, extremely unpredictable and two, extremely inconsistent. Those young lads handled themselves well and as has been the case over the last couple of months, it's been crazy. We weren't as cohesive as we have been at times, we had a couple of poor moments, particularly the first try and they score. The way they've embraced a nobody and a stranger like me, you know, I've nothing but love for all of them. We'll have around 10 players playing in the World Cup, but the pre-season will enable us to establish a different identity and expand on what we've done in the last couple of months. It's still early but at some point we'll reflect Sometimes as a coach you think a lot and question everything and you've got the opportunity to plan the pre-season. I couldn't be prouder of the staff and players for the way we've pulled together and done some great things. The players just love them. It didn't all go our way for sure but I'm really proud of the journey and certainly the effort we put into tonight's performance. The effort, connection, trust and the way people have stuck together and galvanised and played some decent footy, that's real commendable.
Makinson made history as part of St Helens' fourth consecutive Grand Final winning side, but Leeds Rhinos supporters weren't impressed.
Siddog01 tweeted: "Tommy Makinson showing how classless he really is at the end." Though some Leeds fans have alleged Makinson of the same, there is currently no proof to confirm the accusations. Loiners View added: "Tommy Makinson is a massive grub. Craig Cockburn added: Tommy Makinson did the most unsportsman / unprofessional thing ever running away with the ball." Criticism quickly found its way to social media as Rhinos fans expressed their anger at what they perceived to be a lack of sportsmanship from the St Helens and England ace. However, he has been heavily criticised by Rhinos fans following the game for his reaction in the moments after the hooter sounded.
