The Kenyan star clocked 2:01:09 to shave 30 seconds off his previous best mark of 2:01:39 set on the same course in 2018.
Kipchoge and Belihu completed the half marathon in just 59:51. He broke the two-hour barrier in Vienna in 2019 when he ran 1:59:40 in a race that did not conform to regulations. Some 45,527 runners from 157 nations were registered to take part in the first Berlin Marathon without restrictions since the coronavirus pandemic began. It's Kipchoge's fourth win in the city, equaling the record set by Haile Gebrselassie. The men's record has now been set eight times in a row in Berlin, favored by runners for its flat course. "My legs and my body still feel young," the 37-year-old Kipchoge said.
The 37-year-old does not rule out the possibility of smashing his world record in the next Berlin marathon.
Kipchoge has now won 15 of the 17 official marathons he has run. Just roll and see what happens.โ But the most essential thing is my mind, which likewise feels young and new.
The double Olympic champion lowered his own world record at his fifth Berlin marathon on Sunday 25 September.

Eliud Kipchoge took a remarkable 30 seconds off his own marathon world record to finish in a time of 2 hrs 1 min and 9 secs at the Berlin marathon.
Kipchoge has also, of course, a sub-two hour marathon in Vienna in 2019 on his resume. With four miles remaining he was still over a minute ahead of his previous world record, but that was reduced to 30 seconds as he passed the Brandenburg Gate and crossed the line. No one has ever gone through 13.1 miles that speedily in a marathon, and the fear among some onlookers was that by trying to run an official sub-two marathon Kipchoge risked blowing up. Before that he was also a 5,000m world champion in 2003, and won Olympic bronze and silver over 5,000m in 2004 and 2008 respectively. I will celebrate this record and have to realise what happens. For good measure, the 37-year-old Kenyan also beat the second-placed Mark Korir by nearly five minutes.
