In 2008, Glasgow was named the United Kingdom’s first UNESCO City of Music, thanks to its heritage and contemporary vibrant and varied music scene that hosts nearly over 130 music events every week, more than any other Scottish city. ‘Thanks to all 7 cities across the UK who have demonstrated the enthusiasm and passion for Eurovision that exists right across the UK. ‘The EBU (European Broadcasting Union) would like to warmly thank all the 7 British cities that put so much effort and enthusiasm into their bids to host next year’s Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine. We are determined to make the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest one that both reflects the winning position of Ukraine and is also an event that all of the UK can participate in.’ We were incredibly impressed by the quality and creativity of all the city bids, in what was a highly competitive field. Following a detailed assessment process these seven cities have been reduced to two.

Liverpool is today a massive step closer to being awarded the ultimate “douze points” of being the host city for Eurovision 2023 – as the BBC get closer.

Partners from across the region – from hoteliers to the police, ACC Liverpool to the local hospitals – have got behind our plans and really stepped up to help bring this to the city.” Liverpool City Council and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority have been working with partners across the city region to produce a detailed bid, outlining why Liverpool could – and should – host the biggest song competition in the world.

The shortlist of UK cities competing to host the Eurovision Song Contest has been narrowed to just Glasgow and Liverpool.

The winner must be able to accommodate 10,000 spectators and its venue should be within easy reach of an airport, organisers have said. The BBC has also looked at whether cities can offer a “financial contribution” to hosting the event, as well as the “strength of the cultural offer”. In a statement at the time, the EBU said that they had decided not to stage the contest in Ukraine “with deep regret” due to “safety and security issues” arising from the war. The UK is set to host the Eurovision Song Contest after Ukraine won in Turin, Italy, with their song “Stefania”. He went on to describe the contest as “the most complex TV production in the world” and said there was a list of “logistical requirements” they had to consider in making their selection. There is one thing we can be certain of: the United Kingdom will host Eurovision 2023, but where in the UK? It is the fifth most visited city in the UK and has more than 15,000 hotel rooms throughout the Greater Glasgow area.
