Ahead of this weekend's Championship clash, FLW predicts the potential Sheffield United XI that could line up against Birmingham City.

With the absence of a clear option, we think the Blades boss could choose to change shape, opting for a back four this weekend, even if not ideal. Their opponents, meanwhile, have had a relatively decent start to the campaign, too, with Birmingham City sitting 17th under their new boss John Eustace. [Championship](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/category/championship-news/) action is back underway this weekend with [Sheffield United](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/category/sheffield-united/) set to host [Birmingham City](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/category/birmingham-city-news/) at Bramall Lane.

We will see if he is going to be available, it’s touch and go at the moment." He wants to learn, wants to get better and I know there are really good coaches at Birmingham, Keith Downing I know will be a massive help to Manny around the defending side of his game. Four of those six weeks have midweek fixtures and just to make sure the squad is right up against it, two home matches have been brought forward by a day for broadcast purposes. “When he does really well he can come back to us at the end of the season and we will be looking at him next season knocking on the first team squad door. Longelo looked like he’d made that breakthrough in December 2021, when he was called into the Europa League squad to play Dinamo Zagreb – a 1-0 defeat that turned out to be his last first team outing of the season. At a club where there is plenty of scope for mitigation, Blues’ first time head coach has flatly refused to play the ‘Yeah, but…’ card. I couldn’t think [of a better place], when you look at Manny we know how good he can be going forward and he has improved a lot on his defending but there is still stuff to go at. Just then Colin gets blown up for a foul in the right channel and Doyle sent in a curler which had Ruddy backpedalling and thumped the crossbar. Blades hero Billy Sharp might have won it late on when he was clean through on the right of the area but Ruddy was out to block and Blues scrambled clear. Then straight after that he wins a tackle on half way, races clear and as he waits for someone to cross to he is barged over by Khadra. Chong is getting on the ball in dangerous areas, Deeney is winning his battle with the defence and Longelo and Graham are getting forward. I know the kind of player he is, the kind of character he is.

Sheffield United must solve the issue created by Anel Ahmedhodzic's injury issue as they return to action after the international break this afternoon.

There’s been a lot of hard work on the training pitch and it’s pleasing to see it come out today. We want people to stand up for the team and he did that today so fair play to him. His leadership qualities have been immense and I’m so proud of him scoring that goal today. We weren’t at our best, we have to accept that, but it’s a reflection of where we are. It’s a reflection of where we are that people have come off disappointed. We’ve only had 60minutes on the grass so I think it’s credit to the players for their focus.

Report: Sheffield United 1-1 Blues (Birmingham City Football Club)

Sheffield United (3-5-2): Wes Foderingham, Chris Basham, John Egan (captain), Rhys Norrington-Davies, George Baldock, Sander Berge, Oliver Norwood, Tommy Doyle (Rhian Brewster 64), Reda Khadra (Jayden Bogle, 64), Iliman Ndiaye (James McAtee 89), Oli ...

However, when a foul was given against Auston Trusty as McBurnie tumbled without being fouled, and a soft free kick was awarded off the back of it, Sheffield United through this unfortunate series of events found their way to goal. One of these introductions, George Hall, had a crashing attempt blocked inside the box and another, Jobe Bellingham, challenged for a close-range header in added time. They are back on home soil in a week's time when [Bristol City](https://www.eticketing.co.uk/bcfc/EDP/Event/Index/4320?position=6) visit St. When he did deliver, it was tantalising and Berge's inadvertent touch found the Skipper who controlled before lashing it past Foderingham from close range. [Middlesbrough](https://www.eticketing.co.uk/bcfc/EDP/Event/Index/4423?position=5) on Wednesday night, kick-off 7pm, at the Riverside. The visitors then had the game's best chance so far and the West Ham United loanee was at the heart of its creation. But the attacking waves continued, particularly down the left flank, and both Chong and Longelo were better deliveries away from producing clear-cut chances. Scott Hogan was a better connection away from turning Deeney's flick-on into the net before Jordan Graham had a shot bravely blocked. Sander Berge then had a low effort almost turned in by a lurking Iliman Ndiaye as the Blades crowd became more interested. ](https://www.bcfc.com/news/all/reaction-sheffield-united-1-1-blues)Oli McBurnie had put the Blades ahead against the run of play in the 64th minute, but the visitors showed tremendous togetherness yet again to come from behind for their share of the spoils thanks to the Captain's strike. This saw Emmanuel Longelo replace Josh Williams in the team for what was his Birmingham City debut. [The result means Birmingham City have still not lost at Bramall Lane since 2009 and extended their current unbeaten run to four matches.](https://www.bcfc.com/news/all/gallery-sheffield-united-1-1-blues)

Jude Bellingham message and touchline tempers in Sheffield ... (Yorkshire Live)

The Blades were involved in a feisty affair with City at Bramall Lane yesterday.

He received the return ball just inside the area and had all the time in the world to size up his effort. With just five minutes to go, someone on the Birmingham bench clearly shouted something in Heckingbottom's direction. I think it was a bit of a naughty tackle on the back of him, which happens." There was another flashpoint on 51 minutes when the players clashed in the middle of the pitch. Chong will wonder how he did not give the visitors the lead in the first half. He wanted a card shown as he called on the referee to act but Bond was not stirred. He came racing out off the bench to fight United's corner, telling them in the away dugout to sit down. It may have ended in a 1-1 draw but yesterday's encounter was not short of action on and off the pitch. Ollie Norwood went into the book on 76 minutes for a foul on Birmingham playmaker Tahith Chong. Here are some of the moments you may have missed from yesterday's encounter. He let fly with a fierce drive that looked to be heading for the bottom corner but Norrington-Davies managed to get a block on it as both he and John Egan threw their bodies in front of the shot in a desperate attempt to stop it. The United midfielder caught the former Manchester United youngster on the back of the ankle, a foul that would end his participation in the game as Tahith was substituted six minutes later unable to shake off the effects of the challenge.

Birmingham City boss John Eustace hits out at 'naughty' Sheffield ... (Birmingham Live)

Birmingham City boss John Eustace believes players like Tahith Chong need protection from referees after the Blues midfielder was forced off in the 1-1 draw ...

But as long as these players get the protection it is something we have got to get on with. Chong was a deadline day signing from Manchester United and has started the last four matches playing in central midfield. These things happen, there are certainly no complaints from myself as long as we get him protected by the referees, there are no issues. “I think every game he is probably targeted because he is such a good player. The Blades man slid in from behind with little chance of winning the ball and left Chong needing lengthy treatment. All flair players need to protecting. McAloon saved Sheffield United defender Charlotte Newsham’s penalty, the only kick to be missed in the entire shootout. Sheffield United then equalised when Walters headed home from close range but they were level for just a matter of minutes with Durham scoring a penalty kick at the other end. Georgia Walters curled the ball into the far corner of the net from the edge of the box. Walters fired an effort narrowly wide from 20 yards before Galloway arguably should have scored for the hosts after getting on the end of a cross, the player failing to hit the target. Rayner’s effort was saved by McAloon before Sweetman-Kirk somehow directed the rebound off target. The Wildcats then doubled their lead after Maria Farrugia was fouled 20 yards from goal following a lung-busting charge down the pitch.

South Yorkshire Police have took to issue a statement as fan blame officers for a 'disorder' after the Sheffield United v Birmingham game.

Home fans were a disgrace and the police were not much better. @craigrobbo6: Had a large amount of @Humberbeat who actually knew how to talk to people, like people, however, communication amongst each other was awful. @mickbcfc1975: It’s because we’re football fans so as far as the police are concerned we’re fair game mate !! Disgraceful from the police managing the game today. Kettling us all into a small space after the match was fundamentally flawed rather than letting folks just leave the ground and the area. They pushed us all onto London Road where we were sitting ducks for the fans intent on causing trouble! The fact that you are police & support police & still can be honest about some of the unacceptable police behaviour. Two of us left the game wouldn’t let us turn left as usual and forced us up a hill where the coaches were parked. What a disgrace. One social media user, Nick Glynn, said in a video tweet: “@syptweet South Yorkshire Police at @SheffieldUnited v @BCFC. People were “throwing pint glasses” whilst around kids in pubs around the city centre. Local media ‘The Star’ put these reports to South Yorkshire Police, who denied they had received any news of a stabbing and said officers were there “for the football”.
