The draw for the Women's Champions League group stage has left Arsenal facing Lyon and Juventus while Chelsea must play PSG and Real Madrid.

The fourth group comprises Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Rosengård and Benfica. Arsenal have been drawn in a Women’s Champions League group with the holders, Lyon, and Juventus. Two clubs will progress from each group to the quarter-finals.

Speaking ahead of the draw about the success of the competition last season, UEFA's Head of Women's Football, Nadine Kessler said "we changed perceptions because people said 'there are no fans in women's football'. UEFA will be hoping to capitalize on this opportunity to build on the success of last season's group stage. Indeed, KFF Vllaznia will make history as the first Albanian team to ever play in the group stage of a men's or women's Champions League in perhaps the toughest group alongside Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. The sixteen teams competing in the group stage will once more be guaranteed a minimum income of €400,000 ($391,164) for playing in their six matches with extra payments for each additional win or draw achieved. Spanish champions, FC Barcelona will play twice against German side FC Bayern Munich and English champions Chelsea FC, who went out in the group stage last season will have to finish ahead of either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid to reach the last eight this time.

For us the intensity level is higher, and we need to have 11 players on the pitch who are absolutely at the top of their game in order to compete." It appears to be the destination of choice. On the flip side, it also serves as good preparation as English teams attempt to rise to the standards set by the likes of Lyon, Barca and co. When they made it to the 2021 final - the same year their male counterparts hoisted the UEFA Champions League trophy in Portugal - their campaign was hit with irregularities due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There has been a huge influx of European players to the WSL this summer. The WSL can only brag one European title to date - Arsenal in 2007 - but England's top tier has been making moves. There's a reason for that, we haven't been near the top teams and our job is to close the gap. They lost out to Lyon at the semi-final stage in 2019, but only came up marginally short. Daly has incidentally made quite the splash since being lured back to the English game from America this season, scoring three goals for Aston Villa in back-to-back wins. Change is in the air. There are, however, growing signs that the competition gap is narrowing. Even a heavily-tipped Barcelona side boasting a myriad of highly-decorated stars - some of Europe's most notable talent - failed to make an imprint on Lyon's well-established domain.

Champions League: Teams meet in back-to-back weeks (Playing for 90)

Club Brugge surprisingly tops group B with a perfect 6 for 6. Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid are on 3 points, while FC Porto is in the basement on zero.

The Israelis will be up against it, but given the weaknesses shown by the Bianconeri this season, a result (or two) may not be out of the question for Barak Bakhar’s men. [Champions League holders Real Madrid](https://playingfor90.com/2022/05/28/real-madrid-claim-14th-european-title/) have two wins in the bank in Group F. Should FC København earn anything over their two upcoming games with Manchester City, they will have caused quite the shock. The Rossoneri is in a promising position, while the contrast could not be greater for the Blues. So when the two do battle against each other, the Germans should have more confidence. Borussia Dortmund is on 3 points from two games, while Sevilla and FC København have a point each. Austrian champions Salzburg face off against Dinamo Zagreb in a battle of two teams who always win their league. Salzburg have a point more than the Blues, while Milan are on 4 points and Dinamo Zagreb with 3 are the top two as things stand. Meanwhile, the two games between Barça and Inter will likely determine who join Bayern in the next round. Spurs will have Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt over the next two weeks. Sporting CP is on track for a second consecutive appearance in the Champions League knockouts. They will be expected to get a full 6 points against

We simulated Liverpool vs Rangers to get a Champions League ... (Liverpool Echo)

Liverpool will hoping for a return to winning ways on Tuesday night when they host Rangers in the UEFA Champions League. After coming from two goals down to ...

The Uruguayan's shot hit a Rangers defender and flew into the net to make it 2-2. FIFA 23 predicts that another poor first-half display could cost Liverpool, with the Reds having to fight back from two goals down to earn a point against Rangers. Luis Diaz hit the bar with a long-range effort before Mohamed Salah did the same, but it was Rangers who found the net again just before the break to double their lead and add to the Reds' misery. Luis Diaz and Firmino linked up well to drive forward down the left before the former played Kostas Tsimikas in behind on the overlap. But, a stroke of luck fell Liverpool's way, and the Reds made it 2-2 with 12 minutes remaining. After going short from the corner, Diaz charged towards the box, beating two men as he opened his body up to shoot from distance. Klopp made a triple sub at half-time, with Thiago, Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino coming on for Fabinho, Harvey Elliott and James Milner, switching formation to 4-2-3-1. Rangers have lost both their opening games in Group A by big margins, potentially a good time for the Reds to rediscover their winning form. Harvey Elliott lost possession in midfield, allowing John Lundstram to send Morelos towards goal with a long ball. After a slow start to the season, by their own high standards, Liverpool currently sit ninth in the league after seven games, 11 points adrift of leaders Arsenal already. Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Caoimhin Kelleher all remain on the sidelines. To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 23 and updated the Liverpool squad with the latest injuries and suspensions.

The 12 best players NEVER to win the Champions League (FourFourTwo)

The 'show us your medals' brigade would have a hard time criticising these superstars, although none have claimed Europe's biggest prize.

PSV, Inter, Barcelona, Madrid and Milan are among the forward's former teams, but the man who was named the best player in the world in 1997 and 2002 was never able to scoop European club football's top prize. He even moved to PSG in a bid to win the trophy – but returned home a year later. He was also part of the Arsenal side that reached the last eight in 2003/04, when Chelsea ran out 3-2 winners on aggregate in a London derby. Yet the continent’s biggest prize proved elusive for a player who frequently sat out Champions League away games due to his fear of flying. Thuram was also a member of the Parma team that lifted the UEFA Cup in 1999, while he later joined Barcelona just after they won the Champions League in 2006. He scored twice in four games in 1993/94 but then failed to find the net the following campaign, before striking three times in 10 matches as United reached the semi-finals in 1996/97, his final season as a player. He's therefore another nearly man: he left Inter a year before they won it in 2010, before doing exactly the same thing at Barcelona the following summer. The goalkeeper was on the wrong end of three final defeats with the Turin-based giants, making two penalty shoot-out saves in 2003 and then watching Barcelona run out 3-1 winners in 2015 and Real Madrid triumph two years later. The Giallorossi also reached the last eight the following year, but Totti never made it beyond that stage in the Champions League. The Frenchman had only just turned 33 when United beat Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou – and it's curious to wonder whether the Red Devils would still have triumphed in Europe with Cantona in their squad. It used to be the World Cup that was the marker of how good a football really was. But the Argentine remained loyal to La Viola despite the fact they only participated in Europe’s foremost competition once during his time at the club.
